Chapter 24 - Memories

Season 2 – Part 2

More Than Fifteen Years Ago

Location: A Filthy Back Alley

Inside a rundown, filthy alley...

There was a little boy, no older than nine.

He had dark brown hair, hazel eyes, and wore ragged clothes. Hunger and poverty were written all over his face.

Then...

A strange young boy approached him.

He had brown hair, slightly tanned skin, two small radiant golden horns, and brilliant golden eyes that matched them perfectly.

He carried himself with both nobility and arrogance.

Yet, for some reason...

The poor child felt something strange.

As though this noble boy stood on the exact same level as him.

The boy stretched out his hand with a bright, genuine smile.

???? (smiling warmly):

"Want to be friends? With a little bath, you'd actually be pretty handsome, brother."

?????? (confused):

"Why would someone like you—a noble—want to be friends with a failure like me?"

???? (gently):

"There's no difference between us."

"Those are only titles."

Present

Location: The Battlefield

Amidst the battlefield...

One man stood silently.

He wore royal robes.

His dark brown hair matched his hazel eyes perfectly.

For once...

His usual arrogance had disappeared.

His mind was elsewhere.

Then he whispered...

Lucifer (shaken):

"That's impossible..."

"No... no... no..."

"How...?"

"How could it really be him...?"

His eyes slowly turned...

Toward Kaith.

The king and commander of the enemy army.

The greatest enemy of the Kingdom of Arlin.

Suddenly—

Lucifer sprinted toward him.

Excitement filled his heart.

A crazed smile stretched across his face.

He whispered to himself,

Lucifer (almost laughing):

"You were alive all this time...?"

"That's wonderful..."

He stopped directly before Kaith and shouted.

Only then did Kaith finally notice him.

Lucifer (calling out loudly):

"I finally found you, Kaith!"

"Do you remember me?!"

Kaith (coldly):

"How could I ever forget your face?"

Joy instantly lit up Lucifer's expression.

But before he could speak—

Kaith finished his sentence.

Kaith:

"The face of the commander of my enemy's army."

Lucifer's smile vanished.

It was as if something deep inside him...

Had shattered.

Without hesitation—

Kaith drew his sword and rushed forward, aiming to kill him.

Lucifer effortlessly blocked the attack.

Then launched an incredibly fast series of strikes.

Yet...

Not a single fatal blow landed.

Every attack became nothing more than shallow cuts.

Kaith leapt backward.

His brows furrowed.

Kaith (angrily):

"Are you mocking me?!"

"Do you think I'm weak?!"

"Believe me..."

"I'll kill you... and send your soul straight to hell."

Lucifer looked at him.

His voice was calm...

Filled with disappointment.

Lucifer:

"Is that really what you want...?"

"Is that truly what you want, Kaaaith?"

Kaith (firmly):

"Of course."

"Don't forget..."

"I'm a king."

"You're nothing more than a crown prince."

"I'm protecting my people by fighting you."

Lucifer lowered his gaze.

Lucifer (thinking):

"So that's how it is..."

"Weren't you the one who told me there was no difference between a noble and a homeless child?"

"You even said..."

"They were only titles..."

Lucifer:

"..."

Kaith smiled arrogantly.

Kaith:

"What happened?"

"Cat got your tongue?"

"Prepare yourself."

"I won't hold back anymore."

Black flames intertwined with darkness as they engulfed Kaith's sword.

He charged once more.

A relentless barrage of attacks rained down upon Lucifer.

This time...

Lucifer received scratches...

And several real wounds.

Yet...

He still wasn't fighting back.

Kaith narrowed his eyes.

Kaith (thinking):

"What is this bastard planning...?"

"Why isn't he even trying to block my attacks?"

Kaith gathered every ounce of his power.

The technique Reinhardt had recently taught him.

"Darkness Severance."

Reinhardt's Perspective

Elsewhere on the battlefield...

Reinhardt stood calmly in the middle of a sea of blood.

Not a single scratch marked his body.

Reinhardt (coldly):

"What is that fool doing now...?"

He spread his wings.

With one powerful beat...

He soared into the sky.

Searching.

Reinhardt:

"Where is he...?"

"Where...?"

"Found him."

"...Wait."

"Who is he fighting?"

He focused his vision.

His expression changed.

Reinhardt:

"Wait..."

"Isn't that Lucifer?"

"He's not even fighting back..."

Without another thought—

Reinhardt exploded forward at his absolute maximum speed.

Praying...

That Kaith would hesitate...

Even for just a few seconds.

Back to Kaith

The sword pierced straight through Lucifer's heart.

But...

Lucifer smiled.

He was smiling.

Kaith stared at him in disbelief.

Kaith (thinking):

"Has he gone insane...?"

Lucifer slowly raised his hand.

He gently placed it on Kaith's shoulder.

Then whispered with one final smile...

Lucifer:

"Perhaps..."

"I was the only one who still remembered, Kai—"

His hand slipped away.

His body collapsed.

And Lucifer left this world forever.

Silence.

Then—

Tears began falling from Kaith's eyes.

He touched his own face in confusion.

Kaith:

"Why am I crying...?"

"I... don't know."

"Is it because of something I can't remember..."

"From before my memories were sealed?"

At that exact moment—

Reinhardt arrived.

Too late.

He stared silently at Lucifer's lifeless body.

Reinhardt (thinking):

"Damn it..."

"Damn it..."

"If only I'd realized sooner..."

"I've lost him..."

"Again."

Without saying a single word...

Reinhardt turned his back on Kaith.

Then took to the sky once more.

Leaving Kaith alone...

Crying...

Without even knowing why.
