Lorenzo cleared his throat again, clearly hesitating. Xanthe caught the waver of certainty in his eyes and the nervous shift of his jaw.
Whatever he was about to ask, she instantly knew she wasn't going to like it.
"Ain't you going to invite me in?"
"What for?"
"Uh... So we can talk?" he said the words like it was a question.
"I don't let strange people into my personal space."
"Are you forgetting this is my house?"
"It's my room now," she said flatly, then sighed heavily. "What do you want, Lorenzo. It's too late for this."
"I have an unexpected business trip," he murmured. "I need to leave before dawn."
"So?" she drawled, her eyes narrowing.
His hesitation deepened. "Can you look after Pixie while I'm gone?"
"WHAT?!" Xanthe exploded.
He wanted her to look after his sister?
