Chapter 18 - CHOICES OF HOPE AND DESPAIR

Robellia was busy trying to calm her mother's fever. Whatever the doctor gave her seemed to be working. Roselyn seemed to be in a peaceful slumber. Genevieve was right next to her for comfort and support, "Liya, I can take care of her; you should take a tiny break." Robellia kissed her mother's cold and white knuckles. She needed time to think anyway. She handed Genevieve the wet towel and went back to her corner. She hugged herself as she looked at her ring. The ancestors could help her. Her power could heal her mother. It had been years since she put on that ring; if she were to take it off, the amount of bottled power that would be unleashed. She couldn't even think of what would happen. The ancestors were pissed, that's for certain.

Just then, they heard a knock on the door. Robellia didn't even bother to answer the door. Genevieve sighed as she answered the door," Madame Sino, I told you I can take care of her. Oh, you've brought another physician." Genevieve let them in. "This is what you call taking care of her. She hasn't moved an inch since I left." Madame Sino scolded Genevieve. Robellia looked up at Madame Sino, "I did." She then noticed the physician draped in the dark cloak. She couldn't see his face, but he seemed familiar. That's when he took off his cloak, glaring at Madame Sino, "You didn't tell me it was this bad."

Robellia blinked a couple of times. "Max!" she said, still seeming puzzled. Maximus went towards her and squatted down. He pushed a strand of her messy hair behind her ear, "Genevieve, go get her some food and water." Maximus ordered, "She refuses to eat, your highness." Maximus turned to Genevieve with a cold glare, and just like that, Genevieve rushed out of the room. Robellia was still trying to process everything. "What are you doing here, Max?" Maximus sat next to her and pulled her to himself, "Is it always an interrogation with you, little bunny?" Robellia sank into the warmth of his body. She hadn't noticed how cold she was until now. " You know, the moment I walked into this room. I thought I saw some kind of ghost by the corner, but then I realized it was my little bunny. Honestly, this new look doesn't quite suit you." Maximus said as he tried to lighten her up.

Robellia closed her eyes as she held onto him, "It's not right, Max. She can't do this to me. She can't leave me all alone." A few tears trickled down her pale face. Maximus gently caressed her head, trying to calm her down. "Little bunny, I'd never let you be alone. And do you think Madame Sino will let you be alone? even the annoying Genevieve?" The way he spoke of Genevieve, he seemed very familiar with her, and if Madame Sino brought him here, that only meant Madame Sino knew about their odd relationship. Genevieve walked in, and the aroma of warm food wafted in the air. "Max, I can't eat right now."

Maximus indicated for Genevive to give him the tray of food. Genevieve placed it on his lap and went to sit next to Madame Sino, who was taking care of Roselyn. "You are to eat this food, Robellia. That is an order." "Max, you can't..." "Are you refusing my order?" Robellia sighed as she took the tray from him and started to slowly eat. Maximus wiped away the few streaks of tears on her face. After she had eaten a fair amount of food, he let her off the hook. Genevieve took back the dishes. Robellia lay in Maximus' arms, her mind drifting off. She had to make the choice.

It was already past midnight, and Madame Sino looked tired as well as Genevieve. Robellia looked up at Maximus, who looked down at her, sensing her gaze. He didn't seem even the least bit tired. "Thank you for being here, with me, right now." Maximus took her hand and kissed it, "as I said I'd never let you be alone, little bunny." Robellia kissed his cheek and pulled away from him. Standing up, she said," I think you should all go and have some rest. I want to spend some time with my mother." Maximus stood up." I don't think that's a good idea." Madame Sino agreed, "Liya, you can't do this alone." Robellia smiled, "I'll be fine, Madame Sino. Trust me. I just need some time alone with my mother." Madame Sino went towards her and held her hand. "If that's what you need, then okay. As long as you need me, I'll be in my room just across the hall. Come on, you two," she beckoned for Genevieve and Maximus.

Maximus looked at Robellia and gently caressed her face," You don't have to do this alone." Robellia weakly smiled, "I'm fine, Max." She held the hand that was on her face. Maximus looked into her eyes and sighed, "As you wish." he walked out of the room wearing his cloak. When he closed the door behind him, he looked at Madame Sino, "One thing I know about Robellia is that she is terrified of being alone. Whatever she has been thinking of all night, I don't have a good feeling about it. just an eye on her. And send for me when you feel something is off." Madame Sino nodded. Maximus left as he headed back to his room.
