Chapter 23 - THE WHITE FLOWER PENDANT

When Robellia got back to the kitchen and resumed her duties. "So, What was all that about?" Genevieve pestered nonstop. Robellia just ignored her. "Come on, Liya. Did the useless man call you? Are you really just going to be silent? Liya?" Robellia stopped doing the dishes. "Firstly, you shouldn't speak of him that way. What if someone hears you? And yes, he did." Genevieve scoffed, "No one would even guess who I'm talking about. he annoys me for some odd reason. wait! What is this?" Genevieve gasped, "That bastard," she yelled as she moved away Robellia's collar to see the evident hickey. Robellia hurriedly covered it. "Genevieve!" she yelled back.

"He pounces on my best friend as soon as the sun rises. He doesn't even consider the fact that you are emotionally exhausted. No, you are probably physically exhausted too. Is this what he called you for?" Genevieve seemed agitated. "No, that's not what he called me for. This just happened in between. And I am an adult, Gen." Genevieve sighed, but then a devious smile grew upon her face. "How was it? Mhmm?"Robellia rolled her eyes. "Gene, get back to work, before I hit the hell out of you." Genevieve laughed, "With those tiny fists? I'd like to see you try," she went on, laughing.

During lunch, Robellia headed down to the lake. She smiled as she admired the beauty of it all. She could never get enough of this place. She went to the shore of the small lake and squatted down, her fingers playing with the water. When Maximus arrived, he sat under a tree quietly, not to disrupt his little bunny. He gazed at her from a distance. Robellia stood up, ready to go rest under the shade. When she turned, she jumped, "Ahhh!" she screamed, holding her heart in its place, "How many times must I tell you not to do that. I scare easily."

Maximus chuckled, "It's fun to see your horrified face for a second. It's rather cute." "Oh! Come on. You probably think all my expressions are cute." Robellia responded rather agitatedly. Maximus smiled, "Maybe." Robellia sighed as she rolled her eyes. "It seems the little bunny is growing quite bold. Rolling your eyes at your Crown Prince. That Genevieve Girl is rubbing on you." "What is it with you two?" Robellia seriously couldn't understand why they hated each other so much while they barely even knew one another. "Do you intend on standing there, or do you seek an invitation for a seat?"

Robellia went to sit next to him and gave him his handkerchief. Maximus reached out to take it, but Robellia pulled it away and extended her other hand. Maximus chuckled, "Oh! I'd never forget your snacks. I still have a clear memory of the day I faked forgetting them. Who knew bunnies had such a terrible temper?" he gave her a handkerchief with snacks, and they traded.

He always enjoyed watching her eat, plus he got a handkerchief with her scent all over it. "I almost forgot once more." Robellia turned to Max with curiosity. Maximus pulled out a rectangular but small wooden jewelry box and gave it to her. Robellia sighed, "Max, for the millionth time, I can't take jewelry or expensive gifts from you. We've talked about this."

"I am sure it's not expensive, and it's not from me." Maximus retorted. Robellia got curious as she took the wooden box and examined the exterior design. It was oddly familiar to her. "Who is this from?" "A woman back in Osodia gave this to me. She asked me to give this to you, and if you recognize it, you are the one." "The one that does what?" Robellia asked as she opened the box. "That's all she told me about the necklace," Maximus answered.

Robellia took out the necklace from the box. It was a very simple necklace with a beautiful, crystal clear pendant, and within the pendant was a small white flower. Robellia turned to Maximus, the anxiety clearly written all over her face, "Who gave this to you? What is her name?" "You recognize it?" Maximus asked curiously, "Her name, Max?" She persisted. "Pamela Harrington."

Robellia let out a disbelieving sigh, "She can't be alive. That's not possible, unless.... Unless the dream wasn't a dream." Maximus looked confused, "What are you talking about?" "Max, I need you to tell me how you met her? Where was it? Is she okay?" Robellia asked all the questions in one go. She just had so much she wanted to know right now. "I am sure she is more than okay. She can handle herself." Maximus answered.

"So, how did you meet her?" Robellia asked once more. Maximus looked at her excited face, "I'd rather not say." Robellia seemed disheartened, "Max, please." Maximus seemed to be having a hard time. He cleared his throat, "She was my employee." "What is so bad about being an employee that you had to drag out the answer? Max, what did you employ her for?" Robellia was already beginning to join the dots.

"Honestly speaking, I'd like to remind you that that was in the past, and you were probably running about with that stableboy." Maximus defended himself. Robellia remained silent as she looked at him, "You are not angry, are you, little bunny?" Robellia forced a smile," Oh, of course not." Maximus thought it was better to divert the topic, "How did you know her?" Robellia sighed as she put the Necklace back into the box, "We grew up together. She was my best friend. We were practically sisters. This flower only grows in our village. Pammy, Will, and I would spend hours playing by the flowers. She'd braid my hair with it. If she is alive, then maybe Will could be too. And the other villagers must have survived. Maybe there is a home for me to go back to.
