The arena was in shape. It didn't recover from what happened. The damage was not physical. It was still very bad. The students were all talking about it in whispers. Glances. They were all thinking about what it meant.
Kalen Vire was no longer a nobody. He was a problem now.. and problems at Aurelion Forge Academy do not stay around for long.
Kalen walked alone in the corridor. At least it looked like he was alone.. Inside his mind was still racing. The noise hadn't stopped.
"That was excessive" Asha'Kareth said. Lyra didn't agree. "That was perfect. Did you see their faces?" Nyxara's voice was softer. "They're scared now."
Kalen took a breath and let it out slowly. "Good."
There was a pause. Then Asha'Kareth spoke again. "Fear makes people do things." Kalen kept walking. "Let them do something." Lyra laughed. "This is going to be fun. I like it."
The corridor ahead of Kalen changed. Students moved out of his way before he even reached them. Not like before when they ignored him. Now they were careful. They showed respect with a hint of fear.
"News spreads fast" Nyxara said quietly. "Of course it does" Lyra replied. "He just broke the rules of the entire system in front of everyone."
Kalen stopped walking. Not because he wanted to. Because someone was waiting for him. Leaning against the wall like she had been waiting for him all along. It was Seraphine Drax.
"You took your time" she said, standing up a little straighter. Kalen looked at her steadily. "You were waiting." She smiled. "I always wait for interesting things."
Lyra hummed. "Ohhh here we go again." Nyxara's presence became sharper. "She came back quickly." Asha'Kareth's tone became more serious. "She isn't giving up."
Seraphine took a step closer to Kalen. Not rushing, not forcing, but not giving him space either. "You are even better than I thought " she said. "That reversal… that wasn't just power. That was control."
Kalen didn't say anything.. Seraphine noticed his silence. She always noticed things like that. "That ability of yours" she continued, walking around him slowly "it doesn't follow standard Echo rules."
She stopped in front of him close again. Too close. "You're hiding something." Kalen looked at her. "So are you." A little smile passed through her eyes. "Good answer."
Nyxaras voice became lower. "She's trying to get to you." Asha'Kareth responded instantly. "She's testing your limits."
Seraphine leaned in a little. Her voice became softer. "Join me." Kalen didn't blink. "No." She didn't react. She didn't get angry. She just smiled wider. "I didn't say join me now"
Lyra laughed. "She's playing a long game." Seraphine stood up straight. "Things are going to move faster now " she said. "The Council won't sit still after what happened today."
Kalen already knew that. "They will try to control you " she added. ". They will try to isolate you more." There was a little pause. Then she said, "They might even try to break you."
Nyxara's presence flared up a little. "They won't." Asha'Kareth's voice became colder. "They cannot." Kalen tilted his head a little. "Let them try."
Seraphine looked at him for a bit longer. Then she nodded once. "Good." She took a step back creating some distance but not disconnecting from him. "I will help you " she said. "Not because you need it but because I want to see what you become."
She turned to leave. Then she stopped. ".... Because if I don't, someone else will." That lingered in the air heavier than her previous words. Then she was gone.
There was silence. Not empty,. Tense. Nyxara spoke first. "I do not trust her." Lyra shrugged, making a sound. "I don't trust anyone. That's normal."
Asha'Kareth's voice was steady. "She is useful." Kalen leaned against the wall thinking. "She knows something." " Of course she does " Lyra said. "People like her always know things."
Nyxara's tone became softer. "But she wants you" Kalen closed his eyes briefly. "...Everyone wants something." Asha'Kareth replied, "And you are becoming something worth taking."
The system pulsed faintly not violently as before but enough to draw Kalen's attention.
[SYSTEM UPDATE]
[NEW CONDITION: EXTERNAL INTEREST DETECTED]
[WARNING: MULTIPLE HIGH-TIER OBSERVERS ACTIVE]
Kalen's eyes opened. "...Observers?" Lyra's voice dropped a little. "...That's new." Nyxara stepped closer. "Not academy-level." Asha'Kareth's tone became serious. "No."
There was a pause. Then Asha'Kareth said, "Something else is watching."
Far above the academy; beyond the sky something shifted. It was ancient, silent and aware.
Back inside the academy the doors to the Sovereign Wing opened as Kalen returned.. This time he didn't enter immediately. He stopped at the threshold because someone else was already inside waiting.
The air felt wrong, different from before. Kalen stepped in slowly and carefully.. And there standing at the center of the room was a man he had never seen before. Dressed in academy black with no insignia, no rank but his presence was heavy, controlled and dangerous.
"You're hard to find " the man said calmly. Kalen didn't respond. But inside everything sharpened. Lyra went silent. Nyxara tensed.. And for the first time since the duel Asha'Kareth spoke with clear warning. "...Be careful."
The man's eyes met Kalen's, sharp and knowing. "You're not F-rank " he said. There was a pause. Then he said, "You're not supposed to exist."
The door behind Kalen sealed, locked.
[THREAT LEVEL: UNKNOWN]
The man took one step forward. "I have been sent to evaluate you." Kalen's expression didn't change. "By who?" The man smiled faintly not friendly not hostile. Something worse. "...Not the Council."
Silence fell, heavy and final.. And somewhere deep inside; the system pulsed again stronger this time like it recognized something or someone.
[ALERT: CLASSIFIED ENTITY DETECTED]
Kalen took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "...Then this should be interesting."
