Chapter 15 - FESTIVAL OF MASKS

By morning, the academy was acting like nothing was wrong. the academy pretended that nothing had happened. Of course it did that because today was the day of the Festival of Masks.

The Festival of Masks was a big deal.

Lights were all over the academy, music was playing around the courtyards. Students were wearing fancy outfits, masks and formal attire.

It was all so beautiful. The Festival of Masks was a distraction. It was all an illusion.

"Humans are strange," Asha'Kareth observed. "They celebrate while being hunted."

Lyra laughed softly. "That's what makes it fun."

Nyxara stayed close. Closer than usual. Her presence lingered at the edge of Kalen's senses like a constant touch.

"They'll strike again," she murmured.

Kalen fixed his collar a bit. He wasn't used to wearing these clothes. The formal wear was uncomfortable for him.

"They won't stop." Nyxara said.

"Good," Lyra said. "More chances to break them."

As Kalen walked around the Festival of Masks people were looking at him again.

This time it was different. They were not just scared of him. They were interested in him. They were attracted to him. They were curious about him.

Having power is like a magnet and Kalen had that power now.

Then Seraphine showed up. She was wearing a mixture of black and silver outfit. She looked really elegant, sharp and dangerous.

"You look really good." she said, stepping beside him.

Kalen looked at her. "You're overdressed."

She just smiled and said "You don't understand how big this event is."

Nyxara didn't like it that Seraphine was so close to Kalen.

Asha'Kareth didn't do anything. She just observed.

Seraphine moved a little closer to Kalen. "They will attack again tonight." She said with her voice lowered.

Kalen didn't react. "I know that."

Seraphine looked at him. "You're not worried about it."

She paused for a moment. Then "You're actually looking forward to it."

Lyra grinned. "He finally gets it."

Seraphine looked at Kalen with interest. She said softly "That's good." Her eyes were locked on Kalen. "Because tonight you won't be alone, at the Festival of Masks."
