The door knob was turned a few times from outside.
Each movement came with a quiet persistence, as though whoever stood on the other side was growing increasingly impatient.
But the door never budged.
Sonia stood frozen, her gaze locked on the handle her hand had rested on just moments ago. Now it twisted violently from the outside, rattling against the lock.
Someone wants to enter the room.
Her thoughts raced. Who? And why now?
Has she been seen? Followed? Or was the unlocked door a trap carefully crafted and now she walked into it.
Could it be Alex?
No.
Sonia refuted the thought immediately it came to her mind. He never bothered coming into this room unless on a purpose.
And more so now, it shouldn't be him.
But she was more certain she didn't have the time and leisure to think and guess who must be coming into the room and why they were coming.
She needed to find her way out and leave, and not just to leave but to steer clear of this floor to avoid suspicion.
