Chapter 26 - CHAPTER 26 - The Devil Unleashed

Chapter 26 — The Devil Unleashed

The first punch never landed.

It simply stopped.

Kael lunged forward, crimson wings tearing through the storm-filled sky as flames wrapped around his fist. The force behind the attack could have shattered concrete, torn apart armored vehicles, and reduced lesser demons to ash.

Azrael Voss caught it with one hand.

Effortlessly.

The shockwave still exploded outward, shattering windows across several city blocks.

But Azrael himself didn't move an inch.

Kael's eyes widened.

The Crimson Duke smiled.

"Too slow."

The next moment, Kael felt something slam into his chest.

The world blurred.

A building exploded behind him as his body crashed through three floors before finally stopping inside a ruined office.

Dust filled the air.

Concrete rained down.

Pain surged through his body.

For the first time in a very long time...

Kael was losing.

---

The Gap

Kael pushed himself upright.

His chest burned.

His ribs ached.

His flames flickered violently.

Azrael landed on the shattered floor nearby, adjusting his sleeves as though they were sparring partners rather than enemies.

"Disappointing."

Kael's jaw tightened.

"Shut up."

Azrael sighed dramatically.

"You're powerful for your age."

"Then what's the problem?"

The Duke's golden eyes narrowed.

"You're angry."

Kael laughed bitterly.

"No kidding."

"Not focused anger."

Azrael pointed directly at him.

"Wounded anger."

The words hit harder than the punch.

Kael froze.

Images flashed through his mind.

Bullies.

Loneliness.

His mother's death.

The helplessness.

The rage.

The guilt.

Azrael saw it immediately.

"You never mastered the Devil's Mark."

Kael's flames surged.

"I SAID SHUT UP!"

Fire exploded across the office.

---

The Devil's Voice

Deep inside his mind...

Something stirred.

The voice that had always whispered.

Always watched.

Always waited.

This time it didn't whisper.

It spoke.

"Enough."

Kael froze.

The voice sounded different.

Clearer.

Stronger.

Older.

"Why do you continue resisting?"

Kael gritted his teeth.

"No."

"You seek justice."

"No."

"You seek vengeance."

The flames darkened.

"And I can give it to you."

---

Across the City

Taro felt it immediately.

The sky changed color.

The rain stopped.

Even the air felt heavier.

He looked toward the city center.

A massive pillar of crimson fire erupted into the heavens.

His face went pale.

"Kael..."

Without thinking, he grabbed his jacket and ran.

---

At the Café

Lena dropped a tray.

Customers gasped as glasses shattered across the floor.

But Lena barely noticed.

She was staring through the café window.

Toward the distant fire.

Her heart pounded painfully.

Something was wrong.

Terribly wrong.

And somehow...

She knew Kael was involved.

---

The Breaking Point

Back at the battlefield, Kael dropped to one knee.

His head felt like it was splitting apart.

The Devil's Mark burned brighter than ever before.

Azrael watched quietly.

Not attacking.

Not interfering.

Simply observing.

"Interesting."

Kael glared at him.

"What are you doing?"

The Duke folded his arms.

"Watching."

"Watching what?"

Azrael smiled.

"The birth of a monster."

---

Evolution

The mark exploded.

Pain flooded every nerve.

Kael screamed.

Flames erupted from his body like a volcanic eruption.

The ground melted.

Buildings cracked.

The clouds above twisted into a giant crimson vortex.

The Devil's voice roared through his mind.

"STOP HOLDING BACK!"

Something snapped.

Not physically.

Mentally.

Emotionally.

A restraint.

A barrier.

A lock.

And once it broke...

The Punisher changed.

---

The New Form

The fire around Kael darkened.

Crimson became black-red.

His wings expanded dramatically, each feather resembling burning blades.

His eyes lost their pupils entirely.

A glowing crown-like halo of fire appeared above his head.

The temperature skyrocketed.

Even Azrael's expression changed.

For the first time...

The Crimson Duke looked serious.

"Oh."

The demon lord took a slow step backward.

"Now that's unexpected."

Kael stood.

But it wasn't entirely Kael anymore.

The thing looking through those burning eyes wasn't human.

Not completely.

The Punisher had evolved.

---

Uncontrolled Judgment

Kael raised his head.

Every cross in the city became visible simultaneously.

Thousands.

Millions.

White.

Orange.

Red.

The information flooded his mind.

Every crime.

Every sin.

Every act of cruelty.

Every injustice.

Every scream.

Every death.

He saw everything.

And it broke him.

The Devil roared.

"JUDGE THEM ALL!"

A wave of black-red fire exploded outward.

Azrael vanished from the blast zone instantly.

Buildings weren't so lucky.

Several skyscrapers cracked.

Roads melted.

Streetlights vaporized.

The city screamed.

---

Taro Arrives

Taro reached the outskirts of the battlefield.

And immediately regretted it.

The heat alone nearly knocked him backward.

The sky itself looked like it was burning.

Then he saw him.

Kael.

Or what remained of Kael.

"T-That's not..."

His voice failed.

Because the thing standing in the center of the destruction barely resembled his best friend anymore.

---

Lena Arrives

She wasn't far behind.

Despite every warning telling her to stay away...

Despite every instinct screaming at her to run...

Lena had followed.

And now she stood beside Taro.

Both staring at the transformed Punisher.

Her eyes widened.

"Kael..."

The name escaped her lips before she could stop it.

---

Recognition

For one terrifying moment...

The Punisher turned.

Its burning gaze settled directly on them.

Taro.

Lena.

The only two people who still cared about Kael Riven.

The creature stared silently.

The Devil's voice thundered through Kael's mind.

"They are weaknesses."

"No."

"They will hold you back."

"No."

"Destroy them."

"NO!"

The roar shook the city.

---

Azrael Smiles

Far above the battlefield, the Crimson Duke watched.

And smiled.

Not because Kael was losing control.

Because he was surviving it.

"Remarkable."

His golden eyes gleamed.

"The first stage..."

The demon lord looked toward the burning sky.

Toward the awakening power.

Toward the war that was coming.

And for the first time in centuries...

Azrael Voss felt excitement.

---

The Cliffhanger

The transformed Punisher took one step forward.

Then another.

Taro and Lena stood frozen.

Neither knew whether Kael was still in there.

Neither knew whether they were about to die.

And neither noticed the gigantic shadow emerging from the portal behind Azrael.

Something far larger.

Far older.

Far more dangerous.

A creature that even the Crimson Duke respected.

The war for Kael's soul had officially begun.

And Hell had finally entered the battlefield.
