I let out a sigh after singing, catching my breath. I looked at the score of 100 displayed on the screen and gave a satisfied smile. When I turned to the three girls, they were still staring at me with their mouths open, unable to believe it.
After a few seconds of silence, Aiko was the first to speak. "That was amazing… I've never heard someone sing like that in person before." This time, she didn't shout like usual—she just murmured.
"I had no idea you could sing that well. How did you get so good? Do you take singing lessons or something?" Mei asked, still in shock.
And Sakura simply said, "That was incredible…"
I smiled at the three of them and answered honestly. "I've never taken singing lessons, but I've always known I had a talent for it."
Aiko heard that and laughed. "Hahaha! You're really funny. First you say you have talent for acting, and now you say you have talent for singing. What can't you do? Are you some kind of perfect human?"
The other two girls laughed as well.
A perfect human? Maybe I am.
Then I sat down and encouraged Sakura to sing. After I told her I wanted to hear her voice, she finally gave in. And to my surprise, she was even better than the others.
She knew how to control her breathing, and her voice was soft and very pleasant to listen to. Her voice was perfect for romantic songs. Honestly, it made me want to write a song just for her.
She was visibly nervous and restless, but it didn't affect her singing.
I kept listening, enjoying her voice.
When she finished, her score appeared—95 points! I clapped.
Clap~~
Clap~~
Clap~~
"That was amazing, Sakura. I didn't know you could sing so well." I smiled at her, which only made her more embarrassed. She lowered her head and thanked me.
"Thank you, but it wasn't anything special. I'm not as good as you."
"Come on, don't say that. Trust Kyo—he knows what he's talking about. Your voice is incredible!" Aiko said, cheering her on.
"You could become a singer if you wanted. Have you ever tried auditioning for an agency?" When I asked that, Sakura panicked.
"M-M-Me? Of course not! I'm not good enough for that!"
"I think you are. You should try."
"…." Hearing my words, she couldn't respond, and I smiled.
"Hmmmm…" Aiko gave a mischievous smile and looked back and forth between me and Sakura. Then she said, "Why don't you two sing a song together now?" She gave Sakura a thumbs-up.
She thinks I didn't notice?
Well, I don't mind.
"Don't you want to?" I asked.
"O-Of course I do!" Sakura answered quickly.
So I picked up another microphone and chose a song for us to sing together. It was a more dramatic, melancholic song.
As we started singing, I was smiling and enjoying myself, but Sakura was very nervous, and her voice wavered a little. Because of that, our score dropped to 84.
I didn't mind, of course.
After that, we kept singing, but I only sang one more song, while Aiko and Mei were the ones who sang the most.
When our time was up, we left the room.
But before Aiko could pay, I took out a 10,000-yen bill and paid for everything.
As we walked out, Aiko said, "You didn't have to do that…"
"I'd be a jerk if I didn't pay. I had a lot of fun, after all." Besides, I have plenty of money. I'd feel bad making her pay for everything. If I remember correctly, all of them come from modest families.
As we said our goodbyes, Aiko added, "Let's hang out again next week. Next time, I'll take you to a restaurant you've definitely never been to before!"
"I'm looking forward to it."
I said goodbye to the three girls and finally found myself alone.
I took out my phone and sent my mother a message asking about the audition.
Her first reply was:
[Where are you right now? Why aren't you home yet?]
I replied:
[I was at karaoke with some friends.]
[?????]
[What???]
[Is that true?]
[How was it? Did you have fun??]
Seeing her messages, I smiled wryly and didn't respond.
I headed to the nearest station and took the subway to the station near our school. After that, I took a taxi home.
As soon as I walked through the door, my mother was waiting for me.
"Why did you stop replying? I'm so curious, you know? Who are these friends? Were there any girls? Don't tell me you like one of them?"
Hearing her questions, I said, "I don't want to talk about that. Tell me about the audition. Mr. Rikuya already spoke to you about it, right?"
"But I'm so curious~~" After sighing, my mother continued, "He said it's better if you talk to him directly, since it's a very important audition and you were personally selected."
"I was selected? Is it a new commercial for some company?"
"It's a series."
Hearing that, my heart started racing.
A series? Finally! The series in this world might not be as good as the ones from my old world, but some of them are genuinely good. And if I get a role in one of those?
What if it's the lead role? Could I really be that lucky?
Well, Mr. Rikuya seems very capable, so I wouldn't rule it out.
"You look happy," my mother said.
"Of course I'm happy. I'll finally be able to act in something."
"You need to pass the audition first."
"You think I won't be chosen?"
After thinking for a moment, my mother said, "I believe in you."
I ran to my room and threw my bag onto the bed before turning on my computer. Once it started up, I saw an email from Mr. Rikuya. It contained several lines explaining the audition.
He said it was for a series, named the project, and also mentioned the director and writer.
I recognize those names.
I have to be part of this project!
Mr. Rikuya had also sent me a short script—it was a scene that would appear in the series.
The role…
Sota Mizuno, the younger brother of the male protagonist.
"Not bad."
