200 years passed after the death of Mikitaka.
Mitsuo was still around. The life extending technologies invented by Mikitaka the Future King were vastly more effective on Mitsuo thanks to being used earlier in his life.
In addition Mitsuo the Riku Tensai of Kagaku had various cybernetic augments even further extending his life.
The land of Ancestors became the land of Kagaku, a gigantic nation that ruled over half of the continent. A civilization on par with something you might expect from cyberpunk.
"Did you really have to invent corporations teacher..."
Recently Mitsuo had been having a scandal with a corporation called Bamboo Trade. They had initially been a humble company selling books, groceries, and operating malls.
However recently it's been revealed that that their higher ups have been attempting to reveal the existence of the sage lands along with various other "conspiracy theories".
That was highly illegal activity. One of the laws Mikitaka put in place was specifically "to avoid involvement with powerful individuals capable of destroying nations, from henceforth all major communication with the sage lands are forbidden."
Basically Mikitaka didn't want to risk conflict with the sages.
In response the NS(National Security) the organization responsible for large scale security created a policy of hiding supernatural activity from the public.
So Mitsuo had been mobilizing Kagaku to secretly investigate Bamboo Trade, attempting to find where they had gotten forbidden information. But despite their best agents being deployed and years of investigation.
Very little was found. Everything the hackers found was either deleted or Heavily encrypted.
But the little they did find was enough for Mitsuo to decide to personally involve himself.
Aside from arresting the Owner of Bamboo Trade, which became one of the biggest scandals in decades, everything else was squeaky clean about the company.
"There's only a few options left... I want to talk to the former owner of Bamboo Trade, Tenji."
~
The room was clean and orderly. It was a windowless, cameraless, private room with only Mitsuo and Tenji sitting across each other from a simple white table. They both sat on cushioned chairs that were each at the perfect height for both of them to easily sit on.
"Tenji Otsutsuki, former owner of Bamboo Trade. You have 2 sons and a wife. You even took on her surname. Your children Hagaromo and Hamura were caught carrying forbidden information that was built specifically to inform the public and you took full blame and was arrested for crimes against society. Is that correct?"
Tenji looked at Mitsuo with a cold determination. "They need to know that the supernatural exist. I've seen it with my own eyes!"
"I'm well aware they exist but public awareness won't help anyone."
"But they can help us! Over 300 years ago there have been cases of humans traveling to the sage lands and returning with supernatural abilities. But these cases have been dying out ever since the Future King created Technology. Why can't we at least let those few people live normally. Why do we have to deport them!"
"Tenji Otsutsuki, I have no authority over such matters. Instead I have to ask, why are so obsessed with letting human sages live in society with such passion?"
"You suspect I'm associated with sages aren't you."
"Yes, I do. In addition, I also believe that it's a tragedy that sages are deported and banished from the Land of Kagaku but I am not the Head of National Security." Mitsuo gently clasped his hands together. "Instead, I am here for a simple deal."
"What is it."
"If you agree to never publicize sages you would be freed by tomorrow. If not you will have a life sentence to house arrest. Your access to the infonet will be permanently restricted and monitored."
Tenji was despairing on the inside. How could he explain it! His wife was from the stars, an alien. His children had supernatural abilities. But the NS would try to move them out of the country if they ever were found out.
Tenji wanted to make sages public knowledge. Make it so that the public would slowly come around to their existence. So that eventually he could reveal the truth about those he loved and they could live openly.
But instead his children were caught carrying the digital documents he had planned to upload and he took all of the blame so that his children could remain innocent.
"Do you know why it's our policy to move sages east outside of the continent."
"No I don't"
"Now this is information even more forbidden than the existence of sages so I want you to listen carefully." Mitsuo unclasped his hands, "We are at war with the Sage lands."
"...What!"
"Now we didn't start this war. In particular it was Mount Myoboku who started it."
"WHAT!"
"Sages are at risk in the land of Kagaku, there are some very insidious sage arts that work only on other sages. The land of Kagaku is a dangerous place for such people. That's why we banish them from the continent. It's witness protection to the extreme."
Tenji was in shock. As the former owner of an enterprise he had only managed to learn surface level information on the policies regarding sages.
He had thought that the Land of Kagaku was simply anti-sage.
But more importantly.
"Who are you!? How do you know of these things?"
"I am the Riku Tensai."
"Why is the Riku Tensai directly talking to me of all people?"
"Because your wife doesn't exist."
"..."
"..."
Tenji was perturbed. He was doing his absolute best to make a poker face and reveal nothing.
"Your wife, Kaguya Otsutsuki, has no birth records, no childhood documents, no nothing. In all accounts she suddenly appeared one day. You took her in and gave her all the documents we do have. And she became your wife."
Mitsuo's skin started glowing blue with distinct geometric patterns. Revealing his cybernetics beneath his skin.
"We know your wife is a sage. That's why I'm telling you this."
"Then what will you do?"
"Nothing. We will leave your family alone and you will never speak of sages again. I will personally request to the NS that your family will be exempt from all policies related to sages."
"How can I trust you."
"In return. You will let us study your children Hagaromo and Hamura Otsutsuki. As a first case study. They will have weekly appointments. We will not perform any invasive or harmful procedures upon them and we will even support your family for the next 100 years. It's right here on this contract."
Mitsuo took out a simple piece of paper and slid it towards Tenji.
Tenji started reading through the paper.
It was completely official, the terms were precise and it even let him live freely. It freed him of the need to speak out. It even secured his families financial future for 100 years like Mitsuo said.
Even so Tenji was filled with trepidation. He wasn't sure if this contract would really help. But it was this or permanent house arrest and an uncertain future for his family.
He signed it.
"I'm glad we could come to an agreement Tenji. I hope that the next time we meet. It will not be under such unfortunate circumstances."
