This was the scene that remained: a plain littered with wreckage. Small shrubs and massive stones had been ripped from the earth, while the gravel road had been battered beyond recognition.
The place was swarming with sobbers, all of them surrounding Luba. Eídal, meanwhile, sat there in miserable defeat. In the distance, Pia still lay sprawled on the ground, while Adriano had vanished.
Luba clicked her tongue and looked toward Eídal. Instinctively, he straightened his back.
"Why does it have your face?" she asked, though she did not wait for an answer before continuing. "Haah, whatever. Hey, you! Eídal, right?"
"Y-yes!"
"I'm going to show you why this isn't something someone like you should be involved in."
Like a child being scolded, Eídal shrank into himself.
Suddenly, one third of the sobbers surged forward. Another third burrowed into the earth like moles. The final third turned and fled across the plain.
Then Luba extended her spear with her left hand and spoke.
