Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Correct Way to Activate the Golden Finger

Evening.

In a field at the southeast corner of Mill Town.

A patch of golden rice stalks had been trampled into chaos, as if a pack of wild boars had run rampant through it.

"Huff~ Huff~"

Raine was gasping for breath, panting heavily.

If you followed the direction of his intense gaze, you'd see two short, green-skinned creatures sprawled on their backs in a pool of blood.

Raine lowered his head to look again at the pitchfork in his hand, stained with blood. His mind was a bit dazed—this was his first time killing any kind of intelligent creature, whether in this life or the previous one.

This was also his third day after transmigrating to this world.

In his previous life, he'd done well in his studies, breezing into university without much trouble. But unfortunately, as a liberal arts graduate, he basically graduated straight into unemployment.

Sure enough, after graduation, and drifting around for months, he finally took up a gig job on an e-scooter.

But unfortunately, while rushing a delivery, he turned a corner and BAM—met his destiny.

And so, he arrived in this world, reincarnating into the body of an eighteen-year-old farmer.

A real Farmer!

On his very first day in this world, Raine awakened his Golden Finger:

[Name: Raine]

[Class: Farmer]

[Power: 5](Represents muscle strength and physical power)

[Agility: 5](Represents coordination, flexibility, reaction speed, and balance)

[Constitution: 5](Represents health, stamina, and Life Force; affects disease resistance, fatigue resistance, damage endurance, etc.)

[Intelligence: 7](Represents spirit, memory, learning, reasoning, and logical thinking, etc.)

[Perception: 5](Represents willpower, intuition, insight, and common sense judgement)

[Charm: 5](Represents inner appeal, persuasiveness, and leadership ability)

(Note: The average adult male has 5 points in every attribute.)

It was written very clearly above—Class: Farmer.

The only stat that stood out was Intelligence. Raine guessed this was because, as a modern soul, he'd spent over a decade grinding away at his studies.

"Sigh~"

"Monsters have started showing up right at my doorstep, but how the hell am I supposed to use this Golden Finger?"

Raine couldn't help but sigh.

Right after transmigrating, he learned from his body's memories that this world was riddled with all sorts of fantastical monsters and supernatural powers.

Whether it was goblins, Oozes, and Kobolds you could run into around Mill Town, or the distant tales of Giant Dragons and Divine Beings, it all seemed far more than just stories sung by Minstrels.

After all, Raine had personally seen, in the Oak Inn in Mill Town, a tall, slender female Elf carrying a Big Bow.

Those long, pointed, fuzzy ears really did stand out.

When he first crossed over, Raine was actually pretty psyched—after all, he'd gotten a Golden Finger; the road to glory was wide open!

But after two straight days, he realized this Golden Finger only showed him his physical attribute stats, and seemed to do nothing else.

Oh right, at the bottom of the attribute panel, there was a row of square slots, just like the skill slots in online games.

But weirdly, all four squares were empty.

For these two days, he'd been weeding, harvesting rice, and even hacking at wood with a makeshift sword, trying to concentrate and imagine skill icons popping up. But sadly, nothing happened.

"Hmm?"

"Wait! The slots aren't empty anymore?"

Suddenly, Raine froze. Something had just caught his eye!

He immediately focused, turning his attention back to the four square slots beneath his attribute panel.

To his astonishment, at this moment, the first and second slots weren't empty anymore, but instead showed identical monster icons—

They were portraits of the two goblins he'd just stabbed to death with his pitchfork.

Except, the icons were shrouded in a faint grey tone, like some kind of black-and-white memorial photo.

"Is this... some kind of kill record?"

In fact, killing the goblins had been a total accident.

Today Raine had come out to stack up some of the straw left after harvesting the family's rice fields.

That's right—stacking straw.

Don't be surprised, it was a skill from his original body.

After transmigrating, Raine had inherited all sorts of farmer know-how: weeding, composting, planting, stacking straw, you name it.

He could pat his chest and swear, if he could ever go back, he'd easily crush the undergrads of most agricultural universities when it came to farming skills.

At the time, as he was stacking straw with his pitchfork, he turned around—and suddenly caught sight of a sneaky little green-skinned midget, clearly about to ambush him from behind!

Raine hadn't planned on fighting; he ran.

Because the other guy was holding a short dart, and as the instructors said back in military training, if you run into a thug with a deadly weapon—don't hesitate, just run!

Raine was a good student.

But, bad luck—he'd only taken two steps when he saw the other end of the path was blocked by a second green-skinned midget holding a wooden club.

That left Raine with no choice but to fight with his back to the river.

Once in combat, he discovered that, with a pitchfork in hand, he was practically possessed by the God of War.

Whether it was the first goblin's short dart or the second one's wooden club, neither could touch him for the moment.

In the end, though he was a bit flustered, a few jabs with the pitchfork did the trick—he managed to kill both goblins.

"So, because I personally killed them, the goblins' souls were sucked up by the system?" Raine guessed excitedly.

Thinking for a moment, he tried focusing his Spiritual Power on the first goblin icon.

Suddenly, the icon went in, just like an elevator button being pressed.

The next instant, the square slot lit up.

The original black-and-white memorial photo suddenly turned into full color, and the goblin on the icon looked strikingly lifelike.

From its mouthful of sharp fangs to the drool almost about to drip down, everything seemed so alive.

For a moment, the goblin seemed to come back to life.

Before Raine could think more, he suddenly felt his entire body's muscles tense up a little, and a warm current rose from his lower belly. An uncontrollable urge to reproduce surged into his mind.

"What the..."

Before he could fully process it, the attribute bar caught his eye again:

[Name: Raine]

[Class: Farmer]

[Blessed Bloodline: Ordinary Goblin Bloodline]

[Bloodline Talent: High-speed Reproduction Lv2...Dexterity Lv1....]

[Power: 5]

[Agility: 5 (+1)]

[Constitution: 5]

[Intelligence: 7]

[Perception: 5]

[Charm: 5]

"I can bless myself with the goblin bloodline of the monster I just killed?" Raine was stunned.

Next, his eyes naturally locked onto the bloodline talents section.

"High-speed Reproduction Lv2?"

"And it's actually a Level 2 skill?!"

With his basic gaming knowledge, he knew that a Level 2 skill had to be more powerful than Level 1.

Under High-speed Reproduction, there was another line in small font, apparently a description of the effect.

High-speed Reproduction Lv2 effect: Able to reproduce with the vast majority of mammalian species without reproductive isolation; at least seven sperm per attempt, offspring are highly dominant and mature rapidly.

"This effect..."

Seeing this skill effect, Raine was speechless.

Still, it did explain why goblins—those good-for-nothing green-skinned midgets—manage to infest the world in such numbers.

Based on his shallow biology knowledge, what the system meant by multiple sperm per attempt was that even if the goblin's mate only had one egg, multiple sperm could fertilize it, resulting in semi-identical multiples.

As for 'offspring are highly dominant,' that meant when goblins interbreed with other humanoids, the offspring tend to be goblins anyway.

They might absorb a few features from the other species, but most traits would remain goblin-like.

Just like how double eyelids are a dominant trait.

"Dexterity Lv1?" Raine quickly noticed the second bloodline talent in the list.

Obviously, compared to 'High-speed Reproduction Lv2,' this 'Dexterity Lv1' was far more useful to him.

Dexterity Lv1 effect: Agility +1.

(Note: Under current physical stats)

The muscle-tightening effect from moments ago must've come from this.

Although the system described Dexterity Lv1 in just a few words—

Often, the fewer the words, the more significant it truly is.

Raine already realized, this might just be the true way to use his Golden Finger—killing monsters.
