Chapter 27 - Chapter 27 – Desperation

Third person POV

Gen went to Shu's room, where Shu was on his bed zoning out at the ceiling probably fantasizing the tortures. He held his medication on one hand and his rosary on the other.

"Shu…" Gen said to him, catching Shu's attention very fast.

Shu then looked at him and sat down. "Oh…what is it?"

Focusing on his bottle of antidepressants, Gen replied, "Did you overdose on your medication again?"

 "Y-Yeah…sorry…"

"It's fine, that's enough for today."

Gen then walked over to take Shu's medication, which Shu agreed without resistance.

"How are you?" Gen asked while putting the medicine bottle on Shu's desk.

"Not feeling well, a bit," Shu replied as his positive persona cracked, revealing someone who was desperate for something.

"I know the treatments prescribed for you had failed you, sort off…" Gen replied while glancing away for a bit, "…but I think I can help with that."

Shu snapped out of his trance-like zoning out and was surprised at his response. "Really?"

Gen then nodded. "Yes, this would be painful for you but, in my theory, it could alleviate your emotional turmoil at least for a bit."

Shu thinks for a while and out of desperation, he says, "Yes, sure, I think I want physical pain to myself so I could punish myself for what I did to you…"

To that Gen remained his expression concerned and thought, "Yeah, I knew he'll say that…well, time to put your theory into action."

"Whatever physical pain you'll inflict on me, I'll endure it," Shu replied while standing up.

"I see," replied Gen, "come with me."

And so, both of them went to an underground laboratory (east of the one where the caged zombies were kept) with a hospital bed in one corner.

Hayate was present with half of his red and grey camouflage attire of the organization. "Greeting, kid," he greeted nicely.

"So here?" Shu said to Gen.

"Yes, you can lay down there," responded Gen while putting on his black, leather gloves, "and I can strap you there if you ask for that."

Shu liked the sound of the gloves, and he said, "Oh, um…well…why could I ask to be strapped there?"

Gen prepared his syringe containing his modified zombie virus and looked at him. "Because I'll inject you with this, my zombie virus."

Hayate then gave a pat on Shu's shoulder. "We're here so we could silence the ghosts in your mind."

Upon seeing the syringe, Shu was taken aback, but deserving pain to punish himself, he agreed without fearing it and liking the sight of it. "Sure, let's do the first session now?"

"Yes," Gen replied while putting the syringe on his lab coat pocket and opening a cabinet full of weapons, "but you can first ask to be tortured with any of these."

Seeing that arsenal, Shu was surprised but like with the syringe full of zombie virus, he agreed to it out of emotional desperation. "Sure…can I pick two?"

"Yup, you can sit on this corner there."

Gen pointed at the wall with the tiled floor on the bottom of it. "You can sit against the wall."

Shu did so while anticipating his first torture treatment.

With that, Gen closed the door and locked it.

"Two weapons would be a pistol and a dagger, please," Shu made his first request. "Also, the bullets should be filled with the zombie virus the bullets had before you guys became good. Make the shots 5. Also, Hayate-san, wear the vials on your vest and put on your respirator gas mask, and oh, shoot me with 3 regular bullets with your sniper rifle, too."

Gen did so, loading his pistol and preparing his dagger.

Hayate did his part.

Shu likes the sound of the gun being loaded and the sight of a hunting dagger and the vials on Hayate's vest.

"But first…" Gen said, before pulling another syringe and injecting it on Shu's left arm.

Shu was surprised that it went first before the two weapons. "W-What was that?"

"That would be your On the Brink of Death." Hayate responded. "You're really a genius, kid.

"Wait, my serum? Did you know its formula?" Shu responded back.

"Yes, but I'll keep it between us." Gen replied. "That was quite smart of you."

 "Oh, okay…thanks…"

With these out of the way, Hayate aimed his sniper rifle and fired 3 shots at Shu's chest. "Got you," he muttered through his red and dark grey camouflage balaclava mask with an off-the-cuff, scripted line. Shu was pushed against the wall by the bullets that went through his body and embedded themselves on the wall. Gen pointed his pistol at Shu's chest and shot him 5 times. Shu felt pain while enduring it, even though blood was now oozing from his wounds and mouth. The zombie virus broke from the lead and into his bloodstream. The serum is killing the virus while the virus simulated pain for Shu. And then, Gen stabbed him with his dagger in his heart, thinking this will maximize the amount of pain he would inflict on him. Shu endured the intense pain as much as he could like internally and emotionally savoring this moment that would give him the peace he was desperate to have.
