Chapter 29 - Chapter 29 - Ichiro Hamada

Third person POV

Seeing that his radical, but privatized treatment worked, Gen was relieved that Shu had finally calmed down and had some sleep at this hour. So, he and Hayate lifted Shu's body and prompted it against the wall so they would first clean the blood from it, before carrying it to his room while hoping that no one would see that. Mara and Martha were already asleep at this hour, and some of Gen's subordinates and researchers are already asleep after a long day of survival and continuing research for the cure for the zombie virus.

And then, Gen arrived in Shu's room and laid down his body on his bed gently and carefully, before tucking the blanket on his waist and, like a parent to a child, giving a kiss on his forehead. After that, Hayate prepared a new set of clothes for Shu, and, after Hayate parted ways to his room for the night, Gen returned to the lab where his first treatment for Shu's mental illness had been successful to do some clean up, making sure that no trace would be discovered by anyone in this organization. While he did so, he felt that he could confidently calm Shu's mental wreckage, which was worse than a train wreck down a hill. He then thought, "But I was still responsible for his parents' death…I will do what I can to take up the responsibilities of being his parent and take good care of him."

With that, his determination strengthened, before finishing his cleanup, and he applied some chemicals to make sure that invisible traces of Shu's blood would not be seen.

And then after that, he walked up to his room, changed his bloody clothes into a new set of pajamas, and threw them to a separate laundry basket to be washed and sterilized tomorrow. Once these are done, he burned some incense sticks for Shu's deceased parents at a makeshift butsudan. He then started praying for their souls, asking for forgiveness and reciting his vow to take good care of him for life. After that, Gen did something unusual; he set up another, smaller and simpler butsudan for his late father, the previous head of the YKY. Gen set up a dusty framed photo of his late father Gīchi Yamashita.

Gīchi was a serious, but kind-hearted man. He, with the same color Gen had inherited from him, was a second-generation yakuza to take the mantle of the YKY, and he was responsible for the present, eccentric red and dark grey camouflage military attire the soldiers of the former bioterrorists-turned-rescue workers now wore. But it was revealed that the old man's demise was caused by Gen when the young scientist was greedy for power and to make the zombie virus that still infested the streets of Tokyo. Gīchi didn't like that and demanded Gen to stop that, only to fall for Gen's katana, and Gen took his place as a mad scientist 5 months ago.

Now, Gen regretted it and reflected on his actions greatly. So, he burned 5 incense sticks for his late father, and he bowed his head and did the prayer gesture. "Forgive me, father," he whispered while tearing up badly, "I was foolish to you. You were gone because of me. I had disgraced our family name because of me. I will atone for my sins and clean the biological terror mess I had created myself."

After that, as the incense sticks still burned and provided a sandalwood smell in his room, he bowed his head again, turned off the lights, and he went to his comfy bed for the night.

The next morning, Shu woke up, all groggy and tasted his own blood on his mouth. "What happened last night?" he asked while staring at the ceiling.

And then, he remembered his first torture treatment under Gen and Hayate last night, and though he shivered by that memory, he felt better in terms of mental and emotional stability.

And suddenly, Gen and Hayate entered the room with a tray of breakfast food and a cup of coffee. "Oh, morning, Shu-kun." Hayate said to Shu.

Shu heard that and looked at him. "Oh, morning, Gen-san, Hayate-san."

Putting the tray on Shu's desk, Gen looked at him with a positive outlook for his well-being. "How are you now?"

Shu then nodded. "I'm feeling better now…I would say this…thanks for that treatment. I felt I had deserved that a lot."

Gen was stunned yet remained confident and supportive for his friend and adoptive child. "I see then, you're welcome. Also, Dr. Ken must not know this. Let's just go to our CBT sessions as if nothing happened."

Shu nodded.

Both then decided to do that series of treatments at night and at least one hour after dinner and agreed on that.

After that, while the breakfast was ongoing, Shu said to them, "You know, the government soldiers would think that I was quite insane for asking a painful torture to alleviate my mental despair. If they ever lock me up in a psychiatric facility, I'll escape and run back to you. I don't like it."

Gen chuckled while Hayate felt slight second-hand embarrassment and cringe for any state mental asylum in Tokyo and across the country.

"Wow…" Gen commented, "...it seemed that devoted."

"Not really a devotion," Shu deadpanned back, "but rather I wanted to do something for you guys. Also, there was a difference between devotion and loyalty. Devotion is blind worship, or adoración ciega in Español, while loyalty is a mutual relationship to one another."

"I can probably tell they will consider you dangerous for being too stubborn," Hayate replied.

"Yes, sí! I don't care about that."

After eating his breakfast, Shu took a shower and had his bloody clothes taken care of by Hayate, who soaked them in detergent and some chemicals to remove any blood trace from them. By now Ichiro, in his black modern ninja clothes without his utility belt, weapons, voice changer, or tactical vest, came to Gen and Hayate in Shu's room and asked how Shu was now.

"Yes, he's okay, for now," Gen responded back.

"Better than he was two months back," Hayate added with a grin.

Hearing that, Ichiro was relieved for Shu, who had a close friendship at the time when he was crying on his crime against Gen and that Ichiro had comforted in his emotional turmoil storm.

Ichiro haven't known what Gen and Hayate had been doing with the mentally and emotionally shattered psychology student in the basement labs.
