Chapter 3 - One Year

" Brother... Where are you...? "

" I'm here, Julia. Always... "

...

....

.....

......!

" BROTHER! "

Hah...

Another nightmare, another day without Hueco.

Just where could he be...?

Knock,

knock,

knock.

" Julia, are you alright? Another one of those nightmares I assume? "

" I'm fine, Emily... Is there.. any progress on the investigation...? "

Emily doesn't respond and turns to the dark, empty window that only reflects her sorrowful expression.

I can only assume, that there's still no sign of my brother anywhere.

I'm a fool for expecting otherwise, but I miss him, so, so much.

It's been a year since that day, that day our dream was supposed to start.

It was the time I had finally made up with Hueco.

He was finally free.

From his regrets, and from me,

His only burden.

That is, until he disappeared.

How could he?! He promised me that he would help me with my dream! This dream, that was also his!

So, where is he...? How can I start to dream, when I've lost my one reason for wanting it?

Hueco was a star, even among his peers...

If the incident hadn't happened, I'm sure he would be right up there, singing with all his soul!

All that's left with me,

Is false hope.

-----

Julia seems to be in deep thought, not that I blame her...

Just when she was at her brightest, she was shot down immediately.

I can only imagine how she feels after losing Hueco.

But she isn't the only one.

I... was also someone who was blessed with his warmth.

His kind and gentle heart, that has saved more than he probably knows.

Hueco was the only one who stood up for me.

Me, who arrogantly boasted with my family's riches.

Me, who treated everyone as inferior beings.

It was no surprise that people hated me, and so, I was bullied.

Even so, he saved me.

He was no hero, but a thief. Someone who takes the spotlight from those around him, and makes them part of HIS story.

A side character, like I am now.

So, when I heard about what happened to his family, I decided to return the favor.

His heart, which was once so radiant, turned dull and gray after his mistake. I couldn't bear to see him fall so far, it wasn't his turn.

And so, I convinced my family to take him in as my tutor and eventually a regular employee in our company. I wasn't in need of one, but I wanted him by my side.

I was his new light.

And then he disappeared.

It was like any other day, the only difference being his unusual tardiness. It was very unlike him.

When I decided to call Julia, she said he had already left for work.

So, I waited.

One hour,

Two hours,

Three, four, five...

One year.

It's been one year since he's been missing, and no sign of him coming back either.

....

.....

....

I hope that it will never come, the day I'll be the one to tell Julia the truth.

The truth about,

This letter.
