Chapter 2 - Hueco's Story

As far as I can remember, I have been quite the hero.

No, I'm not saying I have powers, but people tell me I'm too kind for my own good.

Which, I understand, but it's not something I can stop doing. It's just who I am, I guess?

In first grade, I stood up to higher level bullies and protected a kid who would then be my best friend and benefactor later on.

Contrary to what most think, I got beaten up. However, they never appeared again.

I don't know how we managed to escape the bullying cycle, but I'm glad we did. After that day, I continued to act the same way.

Along the way, I sort of picked up the name "Neighborhood Hero."

Ironic, that name is.

It's ironic because I was also the cause of my parent's deaths. It... wasn't on purpose, but I still regret my actions to this day.

Simple carelessness ruined our lives in an instant, and I refuse to forgive myself.

It was then when my best friend, Emily, saved me.

She's the reason I was able to give my sister a normal school life, the reason we can eat food day to day. I am especially grateful for the opportunity she and her family have given me by hiring me as their daughter's tutor and as an employee in their company.

Life after our parents' deaths wasn't easy, but it wasn't all that bad. I had days where I wanted to give up, days I learned how to cook better food, and days I wanted to ask Emily's family to take care of Julia, while I disappeared from her life.

Even then, I persisted. It was the only thing I could do for my sister who had lost everything because of my mistake.

Now, that all changes-

Is what I'd like to say.

I worry for Julia, who now has to live without me, I worry that she might not have any shoulder to cry on.

Then again, I never did know if she had any friends, what a brother I am indeed...

When you read this letter, Julia...

I may or may not be dead, but please.

Don't worry about me.

Live long, sister.
