Euphoria shook her head, her worry etched clearly on her face. "I'll stay and wait for Wayne. We're going together."
Hayes didn't press her, but he didn't leave either. Instead, he sat down beside her in a silent vigil.
Another half hour dragged by. Euphoria's anxiety finally boiled over; a simple task like clearing a few stray animals shouldn't have taken Wayne this long. She turned to Hayes, her voice urgent. "Could you take me to the fields? Something isn't right. Wayne should have been back by now."
Hayes met her gaze with his usual unreadable expression. Euphoria expected a refusal, but to her surprise, he stood up, shed his fur wrap, and shifted into his powerful beast form. He lowered himself, waiting for her.
Euphoria managed a small, grateful smile. "Thank you." She climbed onto his back, and they blurred into motion.
