Chapter 12 - The truth I wasn’t ready for..

Jessica's POV

After a month… I thought I was finally getting better.

I was wrong.

One day, I heard something that triggered me like never before.

He was planning to go on a room date with Siara.

My whole body reacted instantly—anger, pain, everything at once.

Without thinking, I texted him—

"Is it true that you're going?"

He called me immediately.

"Who told you?" he asked.

"Doesn't matter. Is it true or not?"

"Yes, it is. What's your problem?" he replied coldly.

That tone—

It hurt more than his words.

"Does she know about us? I asked.

Does Sam know about us?" he asked.

"Yes. He knows everything," I replied.

Then I said,

"Are you threatening me?"

"No. I just asked."

But I could hear it in his voice—

The anger.

The irritation.

Like I was the problem.

"Are you really going to change? Doing all these things? It's time to be a better person," I said.

He snapped back,

"Don't tell me what to do."

That was enough.

"Okay then. I'll talk to Siara."

I cut the call.

And texted her.

"Hey. I'm Jessica. Can we talk for a moment? It's urgent."

She replied,

"I don't know you. Who are you?"

"Oh… Johnathan didn't tell you about me? You can ask him who I am."

That's how it started.

Our conversation went deeper.

I told her everything—everything we had, everything he did. I warned her, told her not to make the same mistakes I did.

But then—

She started telling me things.

Things I wasn't ready to hear.

About a bus ride.

About how he sat next to her… told her he missed his ex… and rested his head on her shoulder.

I felt my chest tighten.

But what came next—

Destroyed me.

He was involved with both of us.

At the same time.

While he was still talking to me… while I was still trying… he was also with her.

That day—

The same day I thought something meant something between us—

He was with her too.

Everything I believed in… everything I held onto—

Turned into nothing.

Then I found out more.

They were talking every day.

Sharing things… deeper things.

Things that made me realize—

I was never the only one.

Not even for a moment.

I felt numb.

Completely numb.

I told her,

"Don't lose yourself for him. Just stay away. He's not in the right state of mind."

And then—

She said something I never expected.

She already had a fiancé.

Someone she was supposed to marry after college.

It was fixed before Johnathan.

I just sat there, staring at the screen.

Truth after truth.

Lie after lie.

And in the end—

It all felt so ironic.

Maybe…

They really deserved each other.

She talked to me for two to three days straight.

And slowly… she revealed everything.

Her plan.

She said she wanted to destroy his emotions.

"I will make him fall for me again," she told me. "I will give him all the love he wanted… and then break him so badly that he won't be able to love for 5–10 years."

I froze when I read that.

That message shook me.

Because the part I never expected was—

I didn't just feel anger.

I felt pity.

For him.

The same Johnathan I once loved deeply… the same person I still couldn't fully erase from my heart.

At first, I stayed with her plan.

I don't even know why.

Maybe I was lost.

Maybe I was hurt.

Maybe I just wanted someone to understand my pain.

But slowly… something changed in me.

I started thinking clearly again.

And even though I was already in a relationship with Sam… my heart never truly left Johnathan.

It still belonged to him.

I was just… tied to a promise I thought I couldn't break.

So I did something I never expected.

I told Johnathan everything.

About Siara's plan.

About what she said.

About the revenge.

But as always… he didn't believe me.

I told him not to tell her that I warned him.

But he still confronted her.

And instead of truth—

She turned everything against me.

She scolded me for telling him.

And just like that… I became the villain in her story.

I blocked her.

And told Johnathan again—

"Stay careful."

But he ignored me.

Like I didn't matter.

Like I was just… noise in his life.

Like I had become a third wheel in my own story.

Even though I was only trying to protect him.

And as all of that was happening…

My own life started falling apart too.

My relationship with Sam began to change.

Slowly… painfully.

After five to six months, he started showing a different side of himself.

Even small arguments became weapons.

He would bring up my past just to win fights.

He acted like he was the purest one… like he had done nothing wrong.

His understanding faded.

His effort disappeared.

And I started realizing—

Even the place I ran to for peace… was no longer safe.

After three months… everything had gone quiet.

No drama. No messages. No chaos.

Just silence.

I was trying to live with it, trying to accept that maybe this was how things were supposed to end.

Then one day—

A notification popped up.

A friend request.

I hesitated before opening it.

And the moment I saw the name…

My breath stopped.

Johnathan.

For a few seconds, I just stared at the screen.

My mind couldn't process it.

Why now?

After everything… after all the silence… why now?

And then it hit me—

He was blocked from everywhere.

Facebook. Instagram. Messenger.

He couldn't even message me directly.

This friend request… this was the only way he could reach me.

My fingers stayed frozen above the screen.

Accept or ignore?

One simple choice… but it felt heavier than anything before.

Memories rushed back all at once.

The pain. The love. The betrayal. The silence.

Everything.

My chest tightened.

Was this a new beginning?

Or just the same pain… returning in a different form?

I didn't know.

And for the first time in a long time—

I wasn't sure if I was ready to find out.
