Chapter 12 - CHAPTER 11: The Invisible Gaze

That morning, Lin Xuan did not wake up immediately as he usually did.

His eyes were open, but his body remained motionless on the bed.

There was an unexplainable weight—not just exhaustion, but a feeling as if his body had just passed through something that "shouldn't happen in a normal human world."

He stared at the ceiling of his boarding room for a long time.

The old fan above spun slowly, emitting a repetitive, faint creaking sound.

"...The longer this goes on, the clearer it becomes that I am no longer in the same place."

He sat up slowly on the edge of the bed.

His hand immediately touched his chest.

Residual pressure from the training and the events of the past few days still lingered.

But there was something else more unsettling.

The phone on the desk.

That object was no longer just a communication tool.

It felt like a "surveillance channel."

He reached for the phone.

The screen stayed black for a second.

Then, it lit up on its own.

📱 The First Message

"You have stepped in too deep."

Lin Xuan didn't blink.

His eyes remained fixed on that sentence.

He was trying to decipher whether this was a joke or something real.

"...Too deep into what?"

Before he could think further—

A second message appeared.

"Stop before you cannot get out."

Lin Xuan let out a soft sigh.

"...This isn't spam."

The room door opened.

Without a sound.

Without a knock.

Long Yuer stood there.

As usual, her presence never felt like "entering," but as if she had "been there from the start."

"I've seen it," she said.

Lin Xuan held up the phone.

"Me too."

Long Yuer walked closer, glancing at the screen for a moment.

Her expression remained calm, but there was a slight shift in her gaze.

It wasn't shock.

It was... calculation.

"They are picking up the pace," she said.

Lin Xuan looked at her.

"Who exactly are 'they'?"

Long Yuer didn't answer immediately.

She looked toward the room's window.

As if the outside world could hear their conversation.

"An organization that observes the evolution of the world."

Lin Xuan frowned.

"Why am I being watched?"

Long Yuer met his eyes.

"Because you are no longer part of the normal path."

That sentence made the room feel a little narrower.

🌇 Campus: A World Still Pretending to be Normal

Lin Xuan still went to campus that day.

As if his life was still normal.

As if there were no mysterious messages.

As if there wasn't another world beneath the surface.

But everything felt different.

It wasn't the world that had changed.

It was him.

In the campus corridors, students laughed as usual.

Discussions about assignments.

Chatter about games.

Plans for the weekend.

But Lin Xuan felt like he was standing behind a pane of glass.

He could see them.

But he wasn't truly there.

He sat in class.

The lecturer explained the material as they always did.

However, the words simply drifted past.

They didn't sink in.

They didn't stay.

His mind remained fixed on one point.

"Stop before you cannot get out."

"...Get out of what, exactly?"

He muttered softly without realizing it.

The student next to him turned.

"You talking to yourself again?"

Lin Xuan snapped back to reality.

"No. Just forgot the material."

But inside him, something was beginning to shift.

It wasn't fear.

It was more like the realization that something was now too massive to avoid.

🍜 The Canteen: The Subtle Cracks in the Human World

That afternoon, Lin Xuan sat in the campus canteen.

A simple meal as usual.

Rice, fried chicken, iced tea.

Long Yuer was already sitting across from him.

No one else seemed to notice her.

It was as if that chair existed only for Lin Xuan's sake.

"This is ordinary human food," Long Yuer remarked.

Lin Xuan gave a small smile.

"And ordinary humans live off this."

Long Yuer stared at the food.

"There is no energy."

"Not everything needs cultivation energy."

Long Yuer was silent for a few seconds.

"...This world is strange."

Lin Xuan chuckled softly.

"You're only realizing that now?"

Suddenly, Lin Xuan's phone vibrated.

He checked it immediately.

📱 The Third Message

"We see you at the campus."

His hand stopped.

"...They are actually here?"

A second message appeared.

"You are not alone."

Lin Xuan turned off the screen.

His breathing changed slightly.

More rhythmic. More alert.

Long Yuer looked at him.

"What does the message say?"

Lin Xuan showed her the phone.

After reading it, Long Yuer said:

"They aren't just watching from a distance."

"...Meaning?"

"They have already placed eyes all around you."

Lin Xuan looked around.

Students were still eating.

Still laughing.

Still living their normal lives.

But now—

it all felt slightly different.

⚠️ The Feeling of Being Watched Becomes Real

Lin Xuan tried to calm himself.

However, the sensation wouldn't fade.

It was as if something was watching him from an invisible vantage point.

Not from a single spot.

But from many.

"...I don't like this."

Long Yuer replied:

"Good."

Lin Xuan turned to her.

"Why is that good?"

"Because you are no longer rejecting reality."

🕳️ Small Changes, Growing Fractures

In the evening, Lin Xuan didn't head straight home.

He walked around the campus.

His pace was slow.

Unhurried.

The evening breeze brushed against his face.

The sky turned a golden orange.

In the past, this was a time of day he loved.

Now—

it felt like a lull before something happened.

The phone vibrated again.

Lin Xuan stopped.

He looked at the screen.

There was no message.

Just an incoming call.

An unknown number.

He didn't answer immediately.

"...If I pick up, what happens?"

Long Yuer appeared beside him.

"Direct contact."

"...Is that bad?"

"To them, it means you are responding."

The call stopped on its own.

Elsewhere—

a man stared at a phone screen.

Then, he broke into a small smile.

🧍‍♂️ A Small Incident: Leaking Aura

As Lin Xuan walked back—

he suddenly halted.

"There's something..."

Long Yuer was instantly alert.

"What?"

Lin Xuan looked at the people around him.

For a split second—

he felt it.

A small pressure.

Incredibly faint.

But real.

A student passed in front of him.

And for a fraction of a second—

Lin Xuan felt a "weight" in his chest.

"...That isn't a normal human."

Long Yuer looked in that direction.

"...Someone has already entered the campus."

Lin Xuan tensed.

"This fast?"

"Not fast."

"...Then?"

"They've been here from the beginning."

🌌 Night: The World Closes the Net

Night fell.

Lin Xuan returned to his boarding room.

He sat on the floor.

Not on the bed.

It was as if his body wasn't entirely willing to "rest."

The phone was placed in front of him.

Silent.

No new messages.

No calls.

That was exactly what made him uncomfortable.

"...They are waiting."

Long Yuer stood by the window.

"They aren't waiting for you to stay still."

"...Then what?"

"Your reaction."

Lin Xuan smiled, a bitter, small curve of the lips.

"...I was just a student a few days ago."

"No longer."

The answer wasn't loud.

But it was final.

Outside the window—

the city lights stayed lit as usual.

Yet behind it all—

something had begun to mark Lin Xuan, not as a human.

But as the flashpoint for the world's transformation.
