Chapter 2 - Childhood

It's been a while since I was brought to this dingy monastery, and I gotta say life here isn't too bad. Sure I was an orphan abandoned at birth, and my future was bleak at best, but life here is simple and I couldn't complain about that.

Aside from the convent, I didn't really interact with anyone else, all I had here was either a ragtag party of children who were less than stellar group for conversation. And I wasn't allowed out into the slums just yet, so the only group that fit my general needs was the Sisters.

Out of the two of them The one that nursed while I was baby seemed to favor me, must be maternal instincts or something.

"Lief! I'm done hanging the sheets!"

She yelled as she sat down on the steps behind the bedroom quarters. I ran over to her, soon as I reached her she scooped me up and put me on her lap, As she squeezed me with with all her might she whispered in my ear.

"How was your day Lief?"

"Good sister Avaline"

I replied in a quiet tone, it was awkward being in a woman's arms with my manly adult brain but it did feel comfortable.

"*sigh* Didn't I tell you to call me mother when were alone."

she said as her chin rested on my head, this was like a ritual for her now she just wouldn't give in. I wouldn't mind calling her mom it just didn't seem like a good idea.

"But what if someone hears us, wouldn't you be in trouble?"

I tried to deflect with a statement that wasn't pure rejection so she wouldn't feel too bad. She didn't say anything but I could feel her dampened mood.

Churches and monasteries like this weren't apart of a major system like the roman catholic church, but instead they operated either on their own or in small group in major cities. They revolved around the elemental gods and would usually represent only one of them. While they didn't need to follow extensive rules in this form most did as to upheld prestige to their patron god, this led to weird rules on chastity and things like that. Really the main reason was for funding from donations most wouldn't support them without strict teachings since it made it feel more trustworthy. If we were found with our relationship she would be shunned not only by this monastery, but every other one that followed the rubric, I couldn't handle ruining her life like that.

We just sat there for a bit enjoying each others presence, to others this was just a nun helping a social outcast but to her this was her mother time. once she had to go help again it was back to library, since this was the slums the only place with any credibility was the monastery so it was designated as a sort of communal library on top of every other responsibility placed on the convent.

Most books were of little to no use being mostly folklore and legends, but if you paid a little attention there was a small sections for general knowledge scattered throughout the place. It started with me trying to find books on language, I had to ask Sister Avaline to help find them. At least it seems like the common tongue here is equivalent to Medieval Germanic or something similar, it was easier to pick up since it followed the sames general rules of English.

It took a couple months before I could really understand everything with high accuracy, which impressed the sisters but it was the bare minimum for me, this lead me to trying other subjects. Math was the same with different symbols, I was somewhat interested in history but to a certain degree it was useless to me as of right now, and more languages right now seemed pointless.

The only subject that was super interesting top me was magic, they are mostly about general use magic like magic for cleaning and magic to light fires, this made places like the monastery viable saving cost on usual bills that other slum dwellers had to figure out how to get by. The only problem was that I can't practice without breaking rules, yes the dumb rules that stop people from finding their talents early were enforced here. Any sort of magic would be sensed by the sister and I would be consequently punished and banned from the library, so it was a no go. I would only be allowed once I was able to use a status tablet, which was restricted to 5 years and above.

"no stupid noble family would abide to this why do I have to, I just want to see my status so I can figure-?!"

As I was muttering to myself in a bitchy manner a status screen appeared in my vision.

(this will be the template I will be using for the time being, could change if I feel it's lacking for something)

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________

NAME:Lief

AGE: 3[80%]

Race: High Human[multiple sub species found]

LINEAGE: Unknown

BLESSINGS:None

LEVEL: 1[0%]

 Stats:

BODY:9

MIND:15

SOUL:114

(I didn't want to make a bunch of different stats that I would have to keep track of, body is every stats that would be considered physical smashed together. Mind is knowledge and wisdom in the literal sense not the dnd style, and soul is the sum of magical stats + soul stuff which is lumped in with magic for the most part. It isn't based off of stats as a whole someone who is a well rounded that could lose to someone who is only pure speed yet has more stat points the only metric that matters for the most part is skills, talent and blessings which can also affect stats.)

SKILLS:

Species Inventor[intrinsic]

Demonic conglomerate[intrinsic]

Carnokinesis [unique]

Status Insight [unique]

Sexual subjugation[unique]

the ladder[unique]

the screen was plastered right in front of me telling me stuff that not even the stone tablet would. My stats were interesting, Body and mind were above average which was 3-6 for most 5 year old, but soul was disproportionately impressive being multiple time greater than normal, hell it was a number decent for adult mages too. This meant besides no blessing indicating it I had talent in regards to magic in some form or another. While I was excited about the prospect of magic it wasn't something I could practice anyways, so I kept reading down into the skills sections and it wasn't disappointing. When I looked over each skill the description would expand out below it giving me a detailed explanation of it, the tablets would only tell you the name of it they wouldn't grade them. Based off what people usually get on their first reading I was basically a prodigy in the making, it wouldn't be an understatement to say I might have the most ever disregarding blessing skills.

My brain absorbed the information as I went through each skill, as I looked at skill number three I suddenly remembered the last moment before I was in the place I am now

Carnokinesis[Unique]:

An evolved version of flesh manipulation user has the ability to control their own flesh in almost anyway from adding muscle and bone, to new organs as long as the user has the knowledge to do so.

User can create beings from their flesh that are independent from user.

The Ability itself was amazing but the name was something that came from my delirious final moments, these skill were made from my desires before I died. It took me a second to regain my bearings with this new information before I went back to reading the remaining skills.

..... God why did I have to think something so dumb at the end, I know desire and regrets at the end aren't usually the smartest but still. [Sexual Subjugation] is not only embarrassing but a problem for me too, during my first official status inspection they will see this and my demonic skill. If I wasn't in a monastery it wouldn't be the end of the world just weird, but who knows what these psychos will do when they see this. I know they hate demons and sex, so what the hell I'm supposed to do?

It couldn't be changed, I could only worry about it when the time came, Instead I tried to look at stuff I could practice and change, my future trademark skill Carnokinesis. I stood up and looked at my arm, I put magic into it and tried extending it. My arm extended forward with no control smashing into a shelf causing it to crumble under the forces, books came tumbling to the ground. I made my arm return before the door burst open, with Sister Avaline running with worry evident on her face.

"Lief are you okay!?"

She yelled as she came running over, which was used to propel herself into a swift concerned hug. She checked over me twice before she ask me what happened.

"The shelf just broke...."

I replied in a monotone, hoping she would just accept it. She didn't question it, she brought me out of the library to Sister Vanmare so I could explain what happened.

"Well It may have not been your fault Lief you will have to help clean up since you were involved."

Sister Vanmare gave it to me straight and went back to work. I just nodded my head and went back with Sister Avaline in toe to clean up my little test. My main goal now was to practice and learn as much as I could, I had a time limit of a but more than a year before I had to figure everything else out.....
