I ended up picking up a gig.... shoveling poop. It was the best paying G rank mission by a long shot and I don't really have an option right now, I need to get some place to stay. I went up to the front desk which had been filled with staff, I went up to one of them and told her the job I wanted.
"E-eh you can't just come in and pick out a mission, you got to be part of the guild to that."
She tried to shoo me off till I showed my card which quickly shut her up. she quickly accept it quickly sending me on my way out to the poop depot.
I walked to the edge of town where one of many crap zones existed, they were made so it could deliver it to farmers outside of the city. it was mutually beneficial since the city got rid of waste while the farmers got free fertilizer.After 2-3 minutes I got to the northern exit end of the city and I instantly got the smell, I knew it wasn't going to be pleasant but this was bit more than expected. Another 5 minutes and I was at the pile there was already people working despite the guild just barely opening.
I went towards the only building assuming whoever was managing here would be there, I knocked on the door and it quickly swung open showing a pretty skinny ratty type guy.
"You here for work? ... oh, hey kid it isn't drop off time screw off."
He brushed me off and quickly tried to close the door.
"Sir I'm from the guild, I came for the mission you requested."
I stated in a plain manner and showed my identification.
"Hmm... well doesn't matter to me as long as you get work done and next time just start with the card no need to confuse anyone.
I nodded and he proceeded to hand me a shovel, then sent me to the piles. I walked to an unmanned pile and started shoveling into the nearby cart.
I spent a good 6-7(heh) hours shoveling crap and all I made was 1 big and 6 small copper coins, which wasn't too bad all things considered more than enough to get a room somewhere. I followed all the other shit covered people to the public baths, It was near the guild for obvious reasons. The inside looked as you would expect there's a locker room with a wash area for clothes, a rinse off area to reduce debris in the bath and the actual bath. I followed the actions of everyone else and ended up inside the bath to relax. the only benefit that this job had was the free access to the bathhouse or I would have had to fork over 1 copper which wasn't anything to scoff at. Afterwords I took my newly washed clothes and started walking towards Fenrise street the entertainment hub.
(1 copper is equivalent to one pence which in the 1500's was somewhere in the range of 2-3$ USD)
Fenrise street was an interesting combo, it had the top layer of pubs, hotels, inns and some restaurants but that was just the surface. Most of the hotels and inn's had prostitution, the restaurants handled the smuggling and the bars were black markets dealing in everything from anonymous auctions for varying items to trafficking humans and monsters. It wasn't pretty but I couldn't argue the potential use for it, I couldn't find many monsters for consumption on my own it cut out the tedious searching part. But for now it wasn't something I couldn't interact with it due to obvious reasons, so for now I had to go for the upstanding place's.
After walking for a while I ended up in front of the inn that was recommended to me "the haw-shack inn", it was a wide 2 story building no different in than any other. I opened the door and walked in the main floor consisted of tables in the middle of the room, a kitchen behind a counter with rooms evenly placed across the walls and the second floor looked like it was only rooms. I walked towards the counter where an old man resided, I asked him how much a night was which he replied was 3 copper. I paid him for 2 nights and got the key to my room, I walked up to the second floor and right at the top of the stairs was my room, I opened the door and was greeted with a simple room A bed, desk and chamber pot were the only thing in there. Tiredness was clouding my mind so I decided first things first was going to bed, I lay in bed thinking about the future my thoughts begin to fade as my eyes slowly close.
(won't lie this chapter is dogg water, I struggled to think of anything. Obviously this is all exposition chapter just for setting his life for now, but still it felt super boring in both typing and reading afterwords. oh well hopefully I can get better at this as it goes on. )
