Chapter 2 - This World Makes No Sense

The first thing I noticed when I woke up was the sky.

It was… too blue.

Not just clear or bright, but unnaturally perfect, like someone had gone out of their way to remove every cloud just to make it look better. For a few seconds, I just lay there, staring up at it, trying to figure out if this was some kind of dream.

Then I blinked.

Then I sat up.

"…Okay," I said slowly, looking down at my hands. "I have a body again."

That was already an improvement.

I flexed my fingers a few times just to make sure everything was working properly. No glitches. No missing limbs. No glowing magical effects or anything interesting.

"Wow," I muttered. "Not even a basic starter ability. I feel a little cheated."

I pushed myself up to my feet, brushing off the grass stuck to my clothes. The ground felt soft beneath me, almost too soft, like it had been carefully maintained instead of just growing naturally. The air was fresh in a way that didn't feel normal either—clean, light, and completely free of anything even slightly unpleasant.

"…Yeah," I said, glancing around. "I'm definitely not on Earth anymore."

The area around me looked like an open field surrounded by trees, the kind you would expect to see in a fantasy setting. There were no buildings in sight, no roads, no signs of modern life at all. Just nature, stretching out in every direction.

For a moment, everything was quiet.

Too quiet.

There were no distant sounds of traffic, no people talking, not even the faint hum of electricity that you never notice until it's gone. Just the wind moving through the grass and leaves.

"…This is kind of peaceful," I admitted.

Then I paused.

"…Which probably means something is about to go wrong."

Right on cue, I heard footsteps.

Light, quick, and coming from behind me.

I turned just as someone stepped out from between the trees.

A girl.

And for a moment, my brain just stopped working.

She was… beautiful.

Not in a normal way. Not in a "she's cute" or "she looks nice" kind of way. It was the kind of beauty that made you pause without thinking, like your brain needed a second to process what you were looking at. Her long brown hair fell naturally down her back, catching the light slightly as she moved, and her eyes were wide and bright, reflecting both surprise and something I couldn't quite identify.

Her clothes were simple, almost rustic, but somehow that made her stand out even more instead of less.

"…Wow," I said before I could stop myself.

She froze.

Completely.

Her eyes widened even more as she stared at me, like she had just seen something impossible.

"…Uh," I scratched the back of my head awkwardly. "Hi?"

No response.

She didn't move.

She didn't blink.

She just stared at me.

For a second, I thought she might run away. That would have made sense. A random guy appearing out of nowhere is not exactly normal.

But instead, she took a step forward.

Then another.

Her movements were slow and careful, like she was approaching something fragile. When she got closer, I could see the slight tremble in her expression, like she couldn't believe what she was seeing.

"…You're real," she whispered.

I blinked. "I mean… yeah? I think so."

She stepped even closer, stopping just in front of me. For a moment, she just looked at me, her eyes moving slightly like she was trying to confirm something.

Then she reached out.

Her hand hovered for a second before gently touching my arm.

The moment she made contact, her entire body reacted.

She stiffened.

Her fingers tightened slightly.

"Warm…" she murmured.

I frowned. "Of course I'm warm. What did you expect?"

But then I stopped.

Because I felt it too.

A strange warmth spread from where she touched me, like a small spark lighting up somewhere deep inside my chest. It wasn't painful, but it was noticeable, and more importantly—it wasn't normal.

Her breathing changed.

It became uneven, just slightly, but enough for me to notice. Her eyes sharpened, focusing on me in a way that made me feel… uncomfortable.

"You…" she said quietly.

I took a small step back. "Yeah… me?"

Her hand followed.

Not aggressively.

Just… naturally.

Like it was supposed to be there.

"…What are you?" she asked.

I opened my mouth to answer, but nothing came out.

Because honestly…

I had no idea.

Before I could think of something to say—

I heard it.

[Ding.]

I froze.

"…There it is."

This time, I didn't even try to hide my reaction.

A message appeared in my mind, clear and sharp.

**[Bond Formation Detected]**

**Target: Unknown Female**

**Emotional State: Interest → Rapid Escalation**

**Energy Type: Devotion (Low Grade)**

"…Okay," I said slowly. "That's new."

Before I could process it fully, another line appeared.

**[Warning]**

**Subject exhibits accelerated emotional response**

**Cause: Unknown Influence**

"…Unknown influence?" I repeated under my breath.

Slowly, I looked back at her.

She was still holding onto my arm, her expression completely different from before. The initial shock was gone, replaced by something deeper.

Something more focused.

Her eyes were locked onto me.

Not casually.

Not curiously.

Completely.

"…Hey," I said carefully. "You're kind of staring."

She didn't respond right away.

Instead, her grip tightened slightly.

Then she smiled.

It was soft. Gentle.

Beautiful, even.

But there was something about it that made me uneasy.

"I found you," she whispered.

A chill ran down my spine.

"…Found me?" I repeated.

She nodded, like it was obvious.

"Yes."

That was it.

No explanation.

No context.

Just that.

I slowly pulled my arm back.

This time, she didn't resist, but her fingers lingered for just a moment before letting go, like she didn't want to lose contact.

The warmth faded again.

"…Yeah," I muttered. "That's definitely not normal."

Before I could say anything else, I heard voices in the distance.

Multiple people.

Getting closer.

I turned toward the sound. "Sounds like more people are coming."

But when I looked back at her, she had gone completely still again.

Her expression shifted.

The softness in her eyes faded, replaced by something sharper.

Her hand moved again, grabbing onto my sleeve this time.

"Don't go," she said quietly.

"I'm not going anywhere," I replied.

"Don't let them take you."

I frowned. "…Take me? Who's taking me?"

The voices were getting closer now, but she didn't look in their direction even once. Her attention never left me.

Her grip tightened.

"I just found you," she said again.

This time, it didn't sound soft.

It sounded serious.

Possessive.

And that was when I remembered the system message.

"Rapid emotional escalation."

"…Yeah," I muttered. "That's not good."

Because if this was just the beginning…

Then things were about to get complicated very quickly.
