Chapter 3 - A Small Job, A Bigger Secret

The morning sun felt different now.

Not brighter.

Just more real.

For the first time since graduation, Mahi was standing in front of a place she didn't know — a small café on a quiet street near the city center.

The glass door reflected her face.

Calm.

Quiet.

Unreadable.

She adjusted her simple bag strap and stepped inside.

A small bell rang above the door.

The Café Job Begins

The café wasn't fancy.

Warm wooden tables, soft music, and the smell of coffee filled the air.

A woman behind the counter looked up.

"You're here for the job interview?"

Mahi nodded slightly.

The manager glanced at her application form.

"You're a graduate… so why this job?"

A short pause.

Mahi answered softly.

"I need work."

Not pride.

Not excitement.

Just truth.

The manager studied her for a moment… then smiled a little.

"Alright. You can start from today."

First Day

Everything was new.

Taking orders.

Cleaning tables.

Serving coffee.

Smiling at strangers.

Simple things.

But for Mahi, even simple things felt like learning a different language.

Still — she did everything carefully.

Quietly.

Perfectly.

No complaints.

No mistakes.

After Work Hours

By evening, the café was almost empty.

Mahi stood near the counter, wiping a table.

Her hands moved automatically, but her mind wasn't there.

Because in her head…

Words were still forming.

Stories still growing.

Characters still speaking.

No matter where she was…

her writing never stopped.

The Hidden Writer Returns

After finishing her shift, she returned home quietly.

The house was calm.

Ayaan was not home yet.

Kriti was somewhere outside.

Perfect timing.

She went straight to her room.

Closed the door.

And the moment silence hit—

she opened her laptop.

Double Life

Her café uniform was still slightly wrinkled.

But her mind shifted instantly.

From worker…

to writer.

She opened her manuscript.

The same world she had left in the morning was still waiting for her.

No one knew about it.

No one asked about it.

No one suspected it.

She typed again.

Faster this time.

More confident.

Like she was breathing again.

A Small Notification

Suddenly—

A small notification appeared on the screen.

"Your story has received new views."

Mahi paused.

Stared at it.

Just for a second.

No smile.

No reaction.

But something inside her shifted slightly.

Not happiness.

Not shock.

Just awareness.

Her story…

was no longer completely invisible.

Outside the Room

Footsteps echoed in the hallway.

Ayaan had returned.

Mahi quickly closed the laptop.

She sat still.

Quiet again.

Normal again.

The door opened slightly.

Ayaan looked in.

"You came back late," he said.

"Yes," she replied calmly.

He observed her for a moment.

Then nodded once.

And left.

Final Scene

Mahi waited until the footsteps disappeared.

Then she slowly turned her gaze back to her desk.

The closed laptop sat there like a secret breathing silently.

Her two worlds were now fully formed:

One where she served coffee.

One where she created stories.

And neither of them knew the other existed.
