Part One: The War Council
The war council gathered at dawn.
Representatives from every tower sat around a massive crystal table. Maps floated above it, marked with troop movements. The air was tense.
Kagura stood at the head.
"You have heard the reports. Kodoku is building an army at the Chrysalis. Nightmares. Constructs. Remnants."
The Gin Tou representative leaned forward. "Remnants of what?"
"Of the First Incarnation."
Murmurs spread.
Kagura raised her hand. Seven holographic images appeared.
"During the First Incarnation, there were no towers. Just dreamers. Seven figures emerged as leaders."
She pointed to the first image. A tall, severe man with serpentine eyes.
Jin. "He believed dreams should be weaponized."
The second image. A woman with hair that merged with shadows.
Yoru. "She believed nightmares were misunderstood guardians."
The third image. A floating eye surrounded by rings of light.
Kyo. "He believed the Dream World should merge with the human world."
"Kodoku resurrected these three."
"What about the other four?" the Mizu captain asked.
Kagura pointed to the remaining images.
Homura. "Flame. Passion. Destruction. Kodoku did not resurrect her. She would have opposed him."
Midori. "Growth. Healing. Connection. She would have tried to heal his shattered mind."
Ginji. "Knowledge. Memory. Preservation. He would have remembered Kodoku's original crime."
Kinuko. "Diplomacy. Balance. Negotiation. She would have tried to negotiate with the towers."
"They remain dormant. Forgotten. Waiting."
The room was silent.
The Honoo captain slammed her fist on the table. "How do we fight these remnants?"
Kagura's voice was steady. "They are powerful, but not invincible. They are shadows of their former selves. They can be slowed. Contained. Destroyed."
"By what?"
"By their opposites." Kagura pointed to Jin. "Jin believed in weaponized dreams. His opposite is the Midori Tou – growth, healing, connection. Deploy healers."
She pointed to Yoru. "Yoru believed in integrating nightmares. Her opposite is the Shin Tou – order, law, control. Deploy barrier specialists."
She pointed to Kyo. "Kyo believed in merging worlds. His opposite is the Gin Tou – knowledge, memory, preservation. Deploy archivists."
The representatives nodded.
"And Kodoku himself?" the Mizu captain asked.
Kagura looked at Muken.
"Kodoku is not a remnant. He is a failed scholar. A shattered dreamer. He cannot be beaten by force. He must be undone."
"By what?"
"By the one who shares his shadow."
All eyes turned to Muken.
Muken stood. His voice was steady.
"I am going to the Gin Tou tomorrow. To learn Mind Riving. Then to the Midori Tou for Memory Crampon. Then to the Abandoned Reach for Umbral Meld."
"And after?" the Shin Tou representative asked.
"After, I will find Kodoku. I will consume the Dream Seed. And I will end this."
The Honoo captain frowned. "One boy. Against an army."
"One boy with a shadow that is a fragment of Kodoku's own power." Kagura's voice was sharp. "He is not a soldier. He is a scalpel."
The representatives exchanged glances. One by one, they nodded.
The Gin Tou representative spoke. "We will prepare for your arrival. The labyrinth is dangerous. Many have entered. Few have returned."
Muken nodded. "I will return."
The meeting adjourned.
As the representatives filed out, Shiori touched Muken's arm.
"Few have returned. That is not reassuring."
"It was not meant to be."
She looked at him. "You are not afraid."
"I am terrified. But I cannot show it."
"Why not?"
"Because if I show fear, they will doubt. If they doubt, they will not send resources. If they do not send resources, the war is lost."
Shiori was silent. Then she nodded.
"You are learning to lead."
"I am learning to survive."
They walked out together.

Part Two: The Four Dormant
That night, Muken sat in Kagura's study.
The fire crackled. His shadow stretched across the floor.
"You asked about the other four," Kagura said. "Homura, Midori, Ginji, Kinuko."
"Yes. Why did Kodoku not resurrect them?"
"Because he could not. Their dreams are protected. Hidden. The towers have kept them safe."
"Safe from what?"
"From being twisted. From being consumed." Kagura leaned forward. "The Remnant Fruit requires a fragment of the original dreamer. Kodoku had fragments of Jin, Yoru, and Kyo. He did not have fragments of the others."
"Where are their fragments now?"
Kagura was silent for a long moment.
"In the void. With Kodoku. He has been searching for them. If he finds them…"
"He will resurrect them too."
"Yes."
Muken's shadow pulsed.
"Then we cannot let him find them."
"No. But we cannot protect them either. They are beyond our reach."
"Then what do we do?"
"We win before he finds them."
Kagura stood. "You should rest. Tomorrow, you leave for the Gin Tou."
Muken stood. "One more question."
"Yes?"
"The fragments of Homura, Midori, Ginji, Kinuko. If Kodoku finds them, could they be used against him?"
Kagura's eyes widened. "What do you mean?"
"If their dreams are opposed to his, could they be awakened? Not as remnants. As allies?"
Kagura was silent for a long moment.
"I do not know. No one has ever tried."
"Then I will find out."
Muken left the study.
His shadow pulsed with excitement.
"You are thinking of awakening them," Kage said.
"If I can."
"That is dangerous. They were powerful. They could destroy us."
"Or they could save us."
Muken walked to his room.
The corridor was dark. The lights were dim.
He did not sleep.
He stared at the ceiling, thinking of four forgotten dreamers.
The war was coming. He had to be ready for more than just Kodoku.

Part Three: The Night Before Departure
That night, Muken stood on the balcony.
The aurora sky was bright. The stars were hidden.
"You are thinking about the remnants," Kage said.
"About Homura. Midori. Ginji. Kinuko. The ones who were not resurrected."
"Why?"
"Because they are still out there. Sleeping. Waiting. What if Kodoku finds a way to reach them?"
"The Remnant Fruits are destroyed. He cannot."
"Are you sure?"
The shadow was silent.
Muken leaned on the railing. "Tomorrow, we go to the Gin Tou."
"Tomorrow, we learn Mind Riving."
"And then the Midori Tou. And then the Abandoned Reach."
"And then we face Kodoku."
Muken looked at his shadow.
"Together."
"Together."
He turned and walked inside.
Shiori was waiting in the corridor.
"Packed?"
"Yes."
"Scared?"
"Yes."
"Good." She handed him a small pouch. "Dried fruit. For the journey."
Muken took it. "Thank you."
"Do not thank me. Just do not die."
She walked away.
Muken entered his room. He placed the pouch in his bag.
He lay down on his bed.
He did not sleep. He stared at the ceiling.
The ceiling had no cracks.
But he could see them anyway. The cracks of his old life. The cracks he had filled with new purpose.
The war was coming. He had to be ready.
His shadow pulsed.
"We will be," Kage said.
Muken closed his eyes.
He did not dream.
But his shadow dreamed for him. Of a labyrinth made of dreams. Of four forgotten dreamers sleeping in the void. Of a boy who had to learn three impossible skills before the world burned.
And somewhere, in the darkness, Kodoku whispered.
"Come, Muken. I am waiting."
