Chapter 69 - CHAPTER 68: HONESTY HURTS THE MOST

💔🌙

Some conversations don't arrive gently. They demand courage. And they don't care if you're ready.

Sofia met Adrian that evening. Not at a café. Not somewhere casual. But somewhere quiet enough for truth.

He looked at her the moment she arrived. And smiled like he already knew something had changed. "You've been distant," Adrian said softly.

Not accusing. Just observing.

Sofia sat down slowly. Taking a breath before speaking. "I think I need to be honest with you," she said.

Adrian didn't interrupt. Just listened. "I didn't realize it at first," she continued. "But I wasn't fully here with you." A pause. Then softer— "I was healing… not ready."

Adrian nodded slowly. Like the truth wasn't surprising. Just confirmed. "And now?" he asked gently.

Sofia looked down at her hands. Then answered honestly. "Now I've gone back to something I thought I had already left behind."

Silence. Not awkward. But heavy with understanding.

Adrian exhaled quietly. "I figured it was something like that."

Sofia looked up quickly. "You did?"

He gave a small, calm smile. "You were never fully here when you smiled at your phone sometimes."

That stung— but not in a painful way. More like truth finally being seen.

"I don't hate you for it," Adrian added gently. "I just think… you already belong somewhere emotionally."

Sofia swallowed. Her voice quiet. "I'm sorry."

Adrian shook his head. "No. Don't be." A pause. Then softer— "I think you just needed to find your way back to yourself… even if it wasn't with me."

Sofia's eyes softened. That kindness made it harder. Not easier. "Thank you," she whispered.

Adrian nodded. "Just be honest with him too."

And that was it. No anger. No drama. Just release.

Meanwhile— Kenzo stood outside a quiet building. Elia was there. Waiting.

She looked at him and smiled faintly. Not bitter. Not hurt. Just clear. "I don't think this is going where either of us pretended it might," Elia said softly.

Kenzo nodded immediately. "I know."

A pause. Then she added— "You're not here with me fully." Kenzo didn't deny it. Because she was right. "And it's not because you're cruel," she continued. "It's because you're still somewhere else."

That sentence— landed exactly where it needed to.

Kenzo closed his eyes briefly. "I didn't want to hurt you," he said honestly.

Elia smiled gently. "You didn't." A pause. Then softer— "You just haven't finished something yet."

Kenzo looked at her. And for the first time— he didn't feel confusion. Only clarity. "I think I already know where I need to be," he admitted.

Elia nodded. "I think you always did." No anger. No regret. Just acceptance.

And that night— both Sofia and Kenzo ended something gently. Not because it failed. But because it was honest. And honesty, in their story, always came first… eventually.

Later that night— Sofia texted Kenzo: "We need to talk."

Almost instantly— he replied: "I know."

And for the first time in a long time— they didn't avoid the ending of something else… so they could finally choose what they truly wanted.
