Gulp!
With such a temptation pressed right against him, if Shiro hadn't possessed ironclad self-control, he probably would have turned into a wild beast and done something incredibly inappropriate right then and there.
Damn it, he hadn't touched a woman in five whole years!
Having such a delicate, beautiful girl suddenly throw herself into his arms was pushing his restraint to its absolute absolute limits.
"Kid, I'm going to say this one more time. Keep your nose out of my business and walk away right now. Otherwise, don't blame me for getting ugly!"
Just as Shiro was starting to actually enjoy the wonderful atmosphere, the brute's voice boomed like a thunderclap in his ears, jarring him harshly back to reality.
They say everyone wakes up on the wrong side of the bed sometimes, but having a moment like this ruined? Shiro felt an unbridled surge of irritation boil up in his gut.
"Bullshit. And what if I say no? I'm making this my business!" Shiro sneered arrogantly, wrapping a protective arm around the girl and glaring down the giant.
In that moment, his image seemed incredibly grand and heroic.
What he couldn't see, however, was the girl breathing a quiet sigh of relief. A sly, calculated glint flashed in her eyes, and her affection for him skyrocketed. Not once did the thought cross her mind: What if he can't actually beat this guy?
"Hahaha! Fine! Since you're so hell-bent on playing hero, you can die like one!"
The brute's face twisted into a savage scowl. Ripping his heavy broadsword from its sheath, he charged straight at Shiro.
"Look out!" the girl shrieked, shrinking back in terror.
"Relax. Trash like this isn't even worth my time," Shiro said. His voice was completely flat, not a single ripple of panic showing on his face.
"Die!"
The giant closed the distance in a single leap, roaring furiously as his broadsword swung down in a deadly arc. The cold steel glinted menacingly, radiating a chilling, murderous intent that would make an ordinary person freeze.
"Kyaaa!" Seeing the massive blade descending while Shiro just stood there motionless, the girl squeezed her eyes shut and screamed.
THUD!
However, the agonizing pain she expected never came. Instead, a heavy, muffled thud echoed in her ears, sounding exactly like a massive sack of meat hitting the dirt.
"It's okay. You're safe now."
At the sound of Shiro's gentle voice, the girl slowly peeked her eyes open.
The first thing she saw was his warm smile, making her heart do a sudden flip. But as her gaze drifted past him, she gasped. The towering brute from a moment ago was sprawled flat on his back. His lifeless fingers were still gripped around the hilt of his broadsword, and his eyes were blown wide in absolute, frozen disbelief.
"Is... is he dead?" she asked, quickly averting her gaze and looking up at Shiro.
"Of course. If someone tries to harm me, they have to pay the price," Shiro chuckled. He finally stepped back, letting go of her.
It wasn't that he wanted to let go; he was just afraid that if he held onto her any longer, his instincts would completely take over.
Bereft of his embrace, a flash of disappointment crossed the girl's face, as if she were deeply reluctant to lose that feeling of warmth and safety.
"Alright, show's over." Shiro shrugged casually and started walking toward the interior of the island. Seeing him leave, the girl quickly scrambled after him, following closely at his heels.
"Oh, right. Do you know where I can find some food? I'm starving!"
Shiro suddenly spun around. The girl hadn't expected him to stop so abruptly. By the time she realized it, she had way too much momentum.
Smack. Their lips crashed tightly together.
