_________

The pirate ship, heavily armed with five cannons, was instantly torn open. A massive, gaping hole appeared in its hull, faintly emitting trails of black smoke.

"Light Cannon!"

Shirokami muttered low. The pistol in his right hand discharged a massive, violent beam of light that tore through the air with a piercing shriek.

The blast completely penetrated the pirate ship before detonating. The resulting shockwave churned the ocean, kicking up roaring waves that triggered a miniature tsunami.

"Where are you looking?"

Shirokami appeared right in front of Ulysses' other lieutenant. Staring at the man with a half-smile, he raised the pistol in his right hand and pulled the trigger.

Squelch!

With a sickeningly crisp sound of flesh being pierced, the vicious pirate—a man with a staggering bounty of 9,800,000 Berries—collapsed into a pool of his own blood, his eyes locked in absolute terror.

Shirokami had blown a clean hole straight through his head.

"As for the rest of you... drop dead!"

Shirokami spun around, leveling his left pistol at the remaining, trembling pirates.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

A barrage of blinding light bullets scattered outward, accurately piercing through every single pirate that had turned to flee. Not a single one was spared.

The battle was over!

Total time elapsed: less than a minute.

Meanwhile, less than fifty nautical miles away from Kululu Island, there was a Marine Branch base.

The commanding officer stationed there was Captain T-Bone—the very same man who would one day be defeated by Roronoa Zoro in the original canon, widely known as the "Ship-Cutter."

Though he possessed the skeletal, terrifying visage of a villain, he was a man who deeply cherished his subordinates. Driven by an overwhelming sense of justice, he was fully prepared to lay down his own life for the safety of innocent civilians. He had earned his moniker because his supreme swordsmanship allowed him to cleanly slice massive pirate galleons into pieces, as easily as cutting a fine steak.

In the original storyline, he even participated in the Paramount War at Marineford, clashing with the Whitebeard Pirates. He was undeniably one of the most renowned Captains within the Marines.

When T-Bone, who had been in the middle of his training, suddenly received the distress signal, he didn't hesitate for a single second. He immediately rushed aboard his warship, setting a direct course for the site of the attack.

Please, let them hold out until I get there! he prayed fervently in his heart.

Yet, deep down, he knew just how naive that hope was.

Even with the warship's engines pushed to their absolute limits, it wasn't fast enough for him. He constantly urged his Marines to squeeze out more speed. Even with the vessel tearing across the water at incredible speeds, it would still take a full thirty minutes to reach the island.

And thirty minutes was more than enough time for a pirate crew to massacre every last living soul on a small island.

You have to hold on! T-Bone begged silently.

Half an hour later.

When he finally arrived at Kululu Island, his heart sank completely. The entire island was dead silent, and the thick, suffocating stench of blood hung heavy in the air.

It wasn't hard to imagine the hellscape that awaited them.

T-Bone squeezed his eyes shut in agony, his fists trembling as he let out a long, shuddering sigh.

With a heavy heart, he issued the painful order: "Disembark! Search the area for any survivors. If anyone is still breathing, we must do everything in our power to save them!"

"Sir, yes, sir!"

The medical corps, already fully prepped and standing by, responded in unison. Moving in perfect, disciplined formation, they followed Captain T-Bone onto the shore.

Consumed by guilt, T-Bone failed to notice the splintered remains of a ship and the faint streaks of blood floating in the water just a short distance from his warship.

"What... what is this?!"

However, when T-Bone—who had fully braced himself for the worst—stepped into the village, he was absolutely stunned by the sight before him.

He had expected to walk into a gruesome, blood-soaked massacre. After all, islands raided by pirates never fared well.
