Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Something New, Something Strange

Dating your best friend sounds perfect—

until it actually begins.

Nothing had really changed.

And yet… everything had.

They were still the same people.

Same jokes. Same late-night conversations.

But now, there was a label.

And that label made even the simplest things feel different.

Arjun: "Have you eaten?"

Before, it was casual.

Now, it felt like… care.

Intentional. Noticeable.

Darini: "Yeah. You?"

Before, it was routine.

Now, it carried a softness she wasn't used to showing.

They didn't know how to act.

Were they supposed to be romantic?

Or stay the same?

At first, it was awkward.

Very awkward.

Silences felt louder.

Messages were typed, deleted, and typed again.

Even calling each other felt strange

like crossing into unfamiliar territory.

But slowly…

Something shifted.

One night, the conversation didn't stay normal.

It slipped.

Arjun: "You know… I never noticed this before."

Darini: "What?"

Arjun: "How much you matter to me."

Her heart skipped.

Not because it was dramatic

but because it was real.

Before, they talked about life.

Now, they talked about feelings.

"What do you like about me?"

"When did this even start?"

"Did you ever feel something before this?"

Questions they never asked before.

Answers they never needed.

Darini wasn't someone who expressed easily.

But with him… she tried.

Darini: "You make things feel… less heavy."

That was her version of saying something big.

And Arjun understood it.

Arjun, who had always been expressive,

found himself softer with her.

Less loud.

More real.

Arjun: "I like how you don't pretend."

They started noticing things they had ignored before.

The way she paused before replying.

The way he always came back, no matter what.

Their conversations grew deeper

but now, there was warmth in them.

Not just understanding.

But closeness.

They talked about "us" now.

About meeting someday.

About what this could become.

About things they had never dared to imagine before.

And for a while

It felt right again

The awkwardness didn't disappear completely.

But it softened.

Turned into something new.

Something fragile

They were learning each other all over again.

Not as just friends

And maybe that's the strange part about love.

It doesn't always begin with fireworks.

Sometimes

It begins with confusion, hesitation, and quiet moments

that slowly start to mean everything.

To be continued.....
