Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The First Meeting

The last exam.

The final paper that stood between Darini and freedom.

The sky, as if it remembered their story, was once again heavy with clouds. By the time she reached the exam hall, rain had already started pouring—soft at first, then steady, then relentless.

---

Inside the hall, time moved slowly.

Outside, the rain didn't stop.

---

Darini finished her paper in two hours.

Earlier than expected.

She stepped out, the cool air brushing against her face, the sound of rain filling the silence around her. Students gathered in groups, discussing answers, laughing, planning what to do next.

She stood aside.

Waiting for her friend.

---

Her phone rang.

She didn't need to check the name.

---

Arjun.

---

She picked up.

"Hello?"

On the other side, his voice—familiar, yet suddenly… real.

"I'm here."

Her heart paused.

"Where?"

"Bus stand… near your college. When are you coming to receive me?"

---

For a second, everything around her faded.

The noise. The rain. The people.

All that existed was that one sentence.

I'm here.

---

"Wait," she said, a little too quickly.

"I'm coming."

---

She informed her friend in a hurry—barely explaining, barely waiting for questions.

And then—

She walked out.

---

The rain had softened now.

Not heavy.

Just a light drizzle, like the sky was holding back.

---

Her steps were quick.

Not running.

But not slow either.

---

The bus stand wasn't far.

And then—

She saw him.

---

Arjun stood there, slightly wet from the rain, hands in his pockets, casually looking around like he always did.

Just like the pictures she had seen.

Just like the voice she had known.

And yet—

Completely different.

---

For a moment, she didn't move.

This was real.

After years of conversations, calls, and messages—

He was actually there.

---

She walked past him.

Not stopping.

Not calling out immediately.

---

Then, just as she crossed him—

Softly—

"Arjun."

---

He turned.

Instantly.

---

Their eyes met again.

Just like the first time.

But this time—

There was no distance.

No screen.

No imagination.

---

Just reality.

---

Neither of them smiled widely.

Neither rushed forward.

There was no dramatic moment.

---

Just a quiet pause.

A shared understanding.

---

Darini looked at him for a second.

Then simply said—

"Come."

---

And started walking.

---

Arjun didn't question it.

Didn't stop her.

He just followed.

---

Side by side.

Not too close.

Not too far.

---

The rain continued to fall lightly around them.

The city moved like it always did.

But for them—

Everything felt… still.

---

No words.

No rush.

Just footsteps matching pace.

---

After years of talking—

They had finally met.

And somehow—

The silence between them said more than anything ever could.

To be continued...
