Chapter 11 - Chap.9 - Witch

You know, Rigel may have learned the spells in his first year, but he wasn't really a master of all of them, though he had practiced some even more than others.

One example of this was Lumos.

The reason? A bright light that comes from nowhere, emanating from the tip of a piece of wood, when everyone is looking at it...

It's basically a guaranteed debilitating effect, plus it was one of the easiest spells to learn.

Rigel went so far as to seek out advanced books to learn Lumos Maxima.

"Aaaaah! " The kids of different ages threw themselves to the ground, holding their eyes tightly. Rigel had closed his eyes a long time ago, but not even his eyelids could block out all the light, forcing him to blink slightly to adjust.

As they lay writhing in agony on the ground, Rigel casually waved his wand. "Locomotor Mortis" he said softly.

The boys, in agony, their legs were pinned directly against each other, unable to separate them. Rigel simply watched calmly as they calmed down.

It took a while for the effect to wear off, and Rigel was already sitting in an empty barrel, looking thoughtful while the boys recovered.

The fact is that Rigel was initially genuinely angry, thinking that a deal could be made, he didn't expect to be mugged around the corner.

He blamed Kreatcher and Walburga for his lack of social nuance over the past 11 years, to the point where he even forgot basic things like protecting himself from thieves. It wasn't that he lacked common sense, but he hadn't expected children to try to mug him.

Aaaargh~ Blergh~

The sounds of nausea, vomiting, and disorientation in the background didn't stop Rigel's thoughts, but rather led him to believe that becoming a pirate would be a good idea to gain fame at sea. Of course, he wasn't interested in stealing from the poor, but in becoming a pirate who only stole from the rich and other pirates...

Well, that's a good way to become famous.

Looking at the brats, he felt it would be much easier to control children, he himself was a child, even as a wizard. Adults might feel intimidated initially, but if they noticed something, like taking his wand, he would be in trouble.

After all, it was his first world, he was still just a slightly more advanced 11-year-old wizard, and he preferred to play it safe.

Pirates who spent years at sea, drinking, looting, and having sex left and right were much harder to control than these brats.

He only needed them to know how to navigate, the rest he could accomplish using magic, like sneaking into a nobleman's house, taking everything, setting off some cannonballs on the docks to make his presence known, and then leaving.

He was very pleased with this course of action.

He just needed to check if those brats knew how to navigate.

Looking at them, the boy who brought him here didn't seem very different from him, but he was one of the youngest.

There was another one that was a little smaller, and the other three looked more like teenagers.

Rigel tilted his head and waited until the five had calmed down, they were now trying to separate their legs, looking at Rigel with evident fear.

"Witch! He's a witch!"

"Jonas, did you really bring a Witch here?! Do you want to kill us?!"

"I didn't know! He just looked like a rich idiot!"

"Damn it! Even if he was just some rich idiot, do you think the navy here is a joke?! We'd be chased like dogs if we robbed him."

...

They argued, trying to get away from Rigel quickly. Rigel just stared at them, and when they were almost out of the alley, he waved his wand. "Wingardium Leviosa."

Despite their surprised and shocked cries, Rigel brought the five of them, one by one, back to their original position, without leaving the barrel, still calmly gazing at them.

He even grabbed Salazar by the neck and started stroking him in front of them, increasing their fear.

"Sir! Please! Let us go! We know we were wrong!" The oldest of them pleaded in a desperate voice, and the others quickly echoed, begging for mercy.

"I'm curious, after escaping, what would you do? Would you spend the rest of your lives with your legs bound, jumping and crawling around?" Rigel asked them.

This left the five questioners speechless for a moment.

"And then?" Rigel continued asking, but neither of them knew what to answer.

Another one of them, seeming to notice something, asked. "Sir, do you need anything from us?"

Rigel smiled, looking at the one who asked, who was the second tallest among them. "What's your name?"

"I'm William, sir, but everyone calls me Billy." He spoke quickly, and Rigel almost laughed, another William, but he ignored it, it was a very common name.

"Well, Billy, does anyone among you have any knowledge of navigation?" Rigel asked, twirling his wand between his fingers.

Billy swallowed hard, looking at the boys, focusing on the third tallest, and spoke with some apprehension. "Thomas has sailed before, sir. His father was... a merchant, but he passed away a long time ago."

Young Thomas seemed even more nervous, looking at Rigel with concern, but still managed to nod.

"Great! Would you know how to navigate a three-masted sailing ship?" Rigel asked.

"Y-yes, sir." The boy, Thomas, agreed.

Rigel nodded and didn't take his eyes off him. "Your father wasn't a merchant, was he?"

Thomas trembled slightly, the others were also worried, but in the end, looking at Rigel's indifference, knowing that he was a Witch, he didn't dare lie. "No, my lord, he was a pirate."

Rigel nodded, he noticed Billy's slight pause, so he thought that might be a possibility.

Back then, although being related to criminals wasn't a crime in itself, it wasn't much different, your relatives were avoided like the plague, and any kind of crime in the area made you one of the prime suspects. It wasn't a good life.
