Chapter 8: Is Her Personality the Same as in the Past
"Twelve down. Eighty-eight more to go. I need to hurry before I run into the Red-Eyed Wolf King, or I'll have to run until my legs give out."
Muttering to himself, Bai Feng moved toward the fallen Red-Eyed Wolves and stored their carcasses in the system storage. This specific storage space was designed solely for carcasses and could not hold any other items. Bai Feng knew of a place that was buying Red-Eyed Wolves at a high price during the early stages of the game. A week from now, once everyone started selling them, the price would plummet—dropping tenfold from ten silver coins per wolf to just one.
After collecting the bodies, Bai Feng shifted his position and continued his hunt. After a brief search, he encountered another pack of fifteen Red-Eyed Wolves. He immediately launched a surprise attack.
"Fireball!"
WHOOSH—!
[Skill XP +60]
The wolves lunged to surround him, but they were unable to bypass his Earth Wall. Following his established tactic, Bai Feng would bind them with wooden vines before finishing them off with either Lightning or Fireballs.
[Skill XP +50]
"Lightning Bolt!"
CRACK-BOOM!
[Skill XP +20]
Only two remained. Bai Feng instantly switched to his wind element.
"Violent Gale!"
By the time the last two wolves realized something was wrong, it was too late. A powerful whirlwind surged from behind them, sweeping them into the air. When they reached a height of fifteen meters, Bai Feng snapped his fingers. The gale dissipated instantly, leaving the two massive wolves flailing helplessly in mid-air before they slammed into the ground.
THUD! CRACK!
Their bones shattered upon impact, making it nearly impossible for them to move. Bai Feng chuckled, walked over to the crippled wolves, and delivered a swift kick to each.
THWACK! THWACK!
Thus, the two Red-Eyed Wolves met their end in a rather comical fashion.
[Skill XP +20]
"Not as difficult as I thought. I just hope the rewards from the game's first hidden quest are worth it."
He collected the carcasses and resumed his search.
One and a half hours later...
[Skill XP +60]
[Skill XP +30]
Bai Feng checked the Nature Taoist Incantation on his status screen.
[Nature Taoist Incantation - Basic Grade (Understand 990 / 1,000)]
"Just one more."
He looked at the single Red-Eyed Wolf currently entangled in his vines.
Awoooo—!
The wolf howled, seemingly pleading for mercy. Bai Feng's expression remained indifferent as he swiftly ended it with a fireball.
BOOM!
The moment the wolf died, a barrage of notifications flooded his system interface.
[Skill XP +10]
[Congratulations! You have reached the 'Master' stage of the Nature Taoist Incantation.]
[Global Announcement: Congratulations to player Bai Tianyun for being the first to complete the hidden quest: 'Slay One Hundred Spirit Beasts.' Rewards and the title 'Spirit Beast Hunter' have been granted.]
Bai Feng stared at the global announcement. Immediately after, private notifications followed.
[Congratulations on completing the first hidden quest!]
[Rewards: 10 Gold Coins, 1 Enlightenment Ticket, 3 Grade-1 Cultivation Pills (High-Grade), and 1 Random Treasure Box.]
His eyes lit up with excitement. Letting out a satisfied laugh, he collected the final carcass and departed.
Meanwhile, in a specialized cultivation manor within the Shang Dynasty, a young man with short blue hair opened his eyes.
"Bai Tianyun, huh? Fine, I'll remember that name."
Near a beast den in the Yan Dynasty, a girl of devastating beauty, adorned with pink hair ribbons, rhythmically fanned herself with a pink folding fan. Her foot was planted firmly on a fallen goblin. Surrounded by guards, she clearly hailed from a noble lineage. She glanced at the notification and let out a soft, melodic laugh.
"The game has barely opened, and this Bai Tianyun has already finished the first quest? How impressive."
She looked away and commanded, "Let's move on."
"Yes, Young Miss!"
Top-tier players across other continents were equally stunned by the announcement.
"We just finished our basic cultivation, and this guy already killed a hundred spirit beasts? What the hell!"
After a fifteen-minute dash, Bai Feng arrived at Tiandu City. The city before him was magnificent, truly living up to its reputation as the provincial capital. When he reached the gates, the guard demanded a single copper coin as an entry fee. Since Bai Feng currently only held gold coins, he found himself in a bit of a predicament.
"Dammit, talk about bad luck."
He paced around the gate for ten minutes, frustrated. Just then, another person arrived at the city gate. Upon seeing her, Bai Feng's eyes widened once more.
'Good grief, what is she doing here?'
It was a girl. Her natural black hair was tied neatly at the back, with two long strands framing her face. Every flutter of her long eyelashes was captivating. Her pale pink lips, though devoid of a smile, remained incredibly alluring. Her cold expression perfectly complemented her image as a flawless goddess. While physical traits could be customized in-game, her current facial features and proportions surpassed perfection. As the beauty drew closer, Bai Feng cursed inwardly.
'Damn, it really is her. Yang Qingwu, the CEO of Gaoda Corporation. I didn't think she'd be playing on launch day.'
Her game ID was Meng Qingwu, dropping her surname 'Yang' in favor of 'Meng', her mother's maiden name. Bai Feng knew her all too well. She was destined to become an Immortal-level player in the future—the Red Lotus Fairy of the Green Lotus Sect, one of the Immortal Sovereigns of the Vermilion Phoenix Continent.
Yang Qingwu raised an eyebrow at Bai Feng before tossing a silver coin toward him. She had no idea what his problem was, but she acted anyway.
"Here, take this."
Bai Feng was stunned. Without another word, Yang Qingwu paid her own fee and entered the city. Snapping out of his daze, he quickly called out in gratitude.
"Tha—Thank you! Let's add each other as friends, I'll pay you back!"
"No need."
She turned her head slightly, gave a cold reply, and walked away. Bai Feng shook his head and murmured with a smile.
"Is her personality the same as it was in the past?"
With that, Bai Feng paid his entry fee and entered the city.
