Chapter 7: Clashing with the Red-Eyed Wolf Pack

Bai Feng withdrew the random basic martial arts scroll from his storage ring.

"Open!"

[Congratulations! You have obtained the Nature Taoist Incantation.]

"Huh?"

Bai Feng's eyes widened. His lips trembled slightly before he burst into a loud laugh.

"Hahaha! It seems the heavens are truly on my side! The Nature Taoist Incantation... Hahaha!"

[Nature Taoist Incantation (Basic Grade)]

[Based on natural energy, this allows for attacks using vocal incantations. Basic Nature Taoist Incantations consist of five elemental abilities. By controlling these five elements through mantras, the user can utilize them for personal use, offense, or defense.]

"My luck is unprecedentedly good! The Nature Taoist Incantation... finding someone who possesses this is rare, perhaps one in a hundred thousand. Even in the system-generated basic skill gacha that costs a hundred silver coins, the drop rate is only 0.01%. Moreover, this technique has subsequent advanced paths. Regardless, with this incantation, what I plan to do next will be much easier."

Bai Feng immediately tapped 'Learn'. Under the skills section of his profile, the new technique appeared.

[Skill: Nature Taoist Incantation (Understand)]

In this world, mastery of a technique was categorized into stages: Initiate, Understand, Master, Proficient, and Perfect. A skill scroll allowed for direct 'Understanding', granting immediate combat capability. In contrast, a manual required one to practice step-by-step from the very beginning. Having gained an understanding of the Nature Taoist Incantation, Bai Feng could now sense the power of the breezes swirling around him. As he waved his hand, the air encircled him, creating a miniature whirlwind. With a sharp snap of his fingers, the vortex instantly dissipated.

Bai Feng felt as though something was missing, and after a moment, he realized he lacked a weapon. He needed a medium. He immediately opened the Game Shop.

[Game Shop: Please select the required category]

He selected the Weapons category.

[Bronze Grade Weapons:]

• Refined Sword - 100 Silver Coins

• Feather Fan - 100 Silver Coins

• Spiked Mace - 100 Silver Coins

• Poisonous Iron Ball - 100 Silver Coins

• Control Brush - 100 Silver Coins

• Sharp Long Spear - 100 Silver Coins

Numerous basic weapons appeared, making it a difficult choice. After some deliberation, his eyes settled on the Control Brush.

[Control Brush: Increases smoothness by 20% when controlling spiritual and elemental abilities, and provides a 10% boost in power. +5 Spirit Power, +5 Agility.]

Seeing that it was exactly what he needed, he purchased it immediately. His hundred silver coins were gone in an instant, but Bai Feng didn't regret it. He checked his updated status.

[Name: Bai Tianyun]

[Cultivation Rank: Bone Refining Stage (Qi 10,000 / 50,000)]

• Strength: 31

• Agility: 36

• Endurance: 31

• Spirit Power: 36

[Weapon: Control Brush]

[Skill: Nature Taoist Incantation (Understand 0 / 1,000)]

"Finally, I can take on the first quest."

This was the system's first quest, and the first person to complete it would receive a massive reward. While other players were likely still busy meditating, Bai Feng knew from his past life that the 'First Clear' bonus was immense. He opened the game map.

The map was vast, seemingly endless. Bai Feng was currently located within the territory of the Zhou Dynasty, near Tiandu City, the main capital of its central province. His eyes gleamed. He knew the Zhou Dynasty well; in his previous life, he had started in the neighboring Yan Dynasty. He was currently in the forest outskirts of Tiandu City—the territory of the Red-Eyed Wolf Clan. These wolves were Level 2 monsters, with a Red-Eyed Wolf King being a Grade-2 Spirit Beast, while the rest were Grade-1.

He began his search. Since the Red-Eyed Wolves moved in packs, it didn't take long to find them. A group of over ten wolves was currently surrounding and tearing into a tiger, appearing ravenous. Bai Feng lurked in the bushes, waiting for the perfect moment when their guard was down.

[Red-Eyed Wolves - Grade-1 Spirit Beast (No Bloodline)]

As the wolves turned their backs, Bai Feng lunged from the brush. He moved his brush through the air, tracing the character for "Fire." A massive fireball surged into the pack. Because he had focused entirely on that single stroke, the power of the fireball reached 110%.

BOOM!

A fiery explosion erupted within the pack, instantly killing most of them. Seven lay dead, leaving only five survivors.

Awoooo—!

[Skill XP +70]

The experience points for his Nature Taoist Incantation increased. Infuriated, the remaining wolves lunged at him. Bai Feng raised his brush instantly.

"Earth Wall!"

A solid wall of earth rose around him, shielding his body. The charging wolves, unable to halt their momentum, slammed into the wall, whimpering in pain.

Yelp! Whine!

Bai Feng didn't stop there. He swung his brush through the air again.

"Vine Entanglement!"

Nearby tree branches suddenly became supple and lashed out, binding the wolf pack. Only one managed to escape; the other four were tightly restrained. Wood-element control was a core aspect of the Nature Taoist Incantation, though distinct from the standard five elements. Next, he unleashed another fireball.

"Fireball!"

WHOOSH—!

The blazing sphere struck the four trapped wolves.

BOOM!

All four perished. Bai Feng gave a cold smile and turned his gaze toward the final survivor.

[Skill XP +40]

The last wolf stared at him warily, standing its ground. Bai Feng took a step forward and spoke calmly.

"Fine. I've been wanting to test this move. Let's try it on you."

He traced the character for "Lightning" in the air. Bolts of lightning began to coil around him, seemingly flowing into the brush. Sensing a mortal threat, the wolf turned to flee. Bai Feng aimed the brush directly at the beast and unleashed the gathered lightning.

CRACK-BOOM!

A brilliant bolt of lightning carved a path through the air, reaching the wolf in a flash. The creature didn't even have time to howl; its fur charred and stood on end as it collapsed, dead.

THUD.
