Chapter 7 - Drunken Haze and Racing Hearts

(eun and Won step aside) eun: (Taking a deep breath) Phew, that's a relief! Won: Yeah, thank God Mr. Kang didn't say anything. I feel so relaxed now—come on, let's get some drinks. eun: Yeah, I really need one. Let's go. (They both head off to get drinks.) Cut.

eun: Give me a drink. Won: Yeah, me too. eun: (Taking a shot) Ah... that hits the spot! Won: Yeah, seriously. Hey—give me another one.

Cut.

(Kang is with the President when he turns to get a drink, and that's when he spots the two of them.) Kang: Wait... does *she* (eun) drink? Won't she get wasted? Wait... why am I worrying about this? Whatever she does—what business is it of mine? (Still watching them, he grabs a drink, starts sipping it, and keeps his eyes fixed on her.)

Cut.

eun: Give me another one! (Slurring) Won: Hey, cut it out! You're already drunk. eun: Shut up! I'm not drunk! I'm having another one. Hey—give me a shot!

Cut.

Kang: She's drunk, yet look at how much she's still drinking. Can't she stop? Why is she drinking so much?

Cut.

Won: That's enough! eun: Yeah, this will be the last one. (Drunkenly) Just... just this last one! Won: Yeah, alright. This is the last one, okay? (She takes that final drink just as Lee makes a grand entrance into the party; everyone is stunned to see him.) Everyone (Whispering amongst themselves): Isn't that Mr. Lee? How is he here at the party? Oh, I never thought he'd actually show up! (All eyes remain fixed on her.) (Just as eun is about to take a sip, Lee approaches from behind her, takes the drink from her hand, and downs it himself.) eun: (Slurring) Huh? Who's there? (She turns around.) ...Lee? Won: Hey, Lee—by the way, how did you end up at this party? Lee: (Loudly, with concern) Oh, forget that—you tell me! Why was eun drinking so heavily? You know how she gets—it goes straight to her head! And Won, why didn't *you* stop her? Won: Hey! Why are you blaming me? I tried to stop her, but she wouldn't listen! Lee: Yeah, but still... Won: Well—how did *you* get here? Tell me—you never go to parties, so what are you doing here?

Lee: What's the problem? Won: No, I told you the truth. Lee: Well, you two might not know this, but my father and Chairman Kang were business rivals. Now that my father has passed away, I've stepped in to take his place. That's why I simply had to come here and meet the new CEO—the one who will now be my competitor. (Scene Cut) (Kang was watching them talking from a distance; he thought to himself) Kang: Who is that? Why do those two seem so close to him? (Swirling the glass in his hand) (Scene Cut) (Just then, Park approaches from behind and asks Kang) Park: What are you looking at? (Kang looks slightly startled) Kang: (Turning around) Nothing. Park: Oh! (He then spots Yun and Wan talking to Lee, and looks back at Kang) Park: Who is that guy? Kang: (Angrily) How would I know? (He then walks away) Park: What did I say that made him storm off like that? (Scene Cut) Lee: (Spotting the Chairman in conversation) eun, I'll be right back. eun: Alright, go ahead. Lee: And don't you two go wandering off alone anywhere; I'll take you both home myself, okay? Won: Yeah, go on. (Thinking to himself) Why is he being so protective? (Scene Cut) (Lee approaches the Chairman) Lee: Hello, Chairman Kang. Chairman: (To his companion) Excuse me. Just a moment. Lee: How are you? It's been a long time since we last met. Chairman: I didn't expect you to show up. Lee: I didn't expect to come either, but since there's a new CEO now, I wanted to meet him. Chairman: (Laughing) Yes, that's true enough. I want to meet him as well. You'd better be ready, though—this time, your position might be at risk. Lee: Yes, absolutely. (The Chairman summons Kang and Park; Kang and Park enter; upon seeing them, Kang's facial expression changes.) Chairman: So, meet them—this is my son, and he is the company's CEO. Lee: Yes, Mr. Kang and Mr. Park, I am Lee Min-ju—your rival. From now on, we will be going head-to-head. Park: Hello, Mr. Lee. So, you are our rival? Your company is growing at an incredibly rapid pace. Lee: Yes—and that is precisely why I am Number One. Kang: (In an arrogant tone) But as for what happens next... well, only time will tell. Chairman: You two talk amongst yourselves; I'll be right back. Lee: Understood, Chairman Kang. Kang: (Sternly) However, Mr. Lee, it is highly inappropriate for you to speak with our top-performing employees and attempt to poach them for your own company. (Park thinks to himself) Park: Is Kang talking about Eun and Won? Lee: (Sternly) Wait a minute—what exactly are you implying? I have absolutely no need for anything of the sort. Even if my company *were* in need of something, it certainly wouldn't be your company's employees. Kang: To be honest, what exactly were you saying to Mr. Eun and Mr. Won? Lee: If you don't know the facts, you should think twice before you speak; those two happen to be my childhood friends. Kang: (His mood souring) That's quite enough talk. I'm leaving. (He walks out.) Park: (To Lee) I'm sorry; I completely misunderstood you. Lee: You didn't say anything. Anyway, let it go. There's no need to dwell on it. We'll meet again. Park: Certainly. (Lee leaves.) Park: (To himself) Why exactly did Kang get so angry? What happened after he arrived here? Especially when he met Wan? The moment he heard that Lee was Wan's friend, his entire demeanor shifted... Well. Cut. Won: You are absolutely wasted. eun: (Drunkenly) I'm fine. (She sets her glass down; just then, Yun begins to feel nauseous.) eun: *Gag! Gag!* Won: What's happening to you? eun: I feel sick to my stomach. Won: Hurry up and get to the restroom! (eun starts to move quickly.) eun: (Clapping a hand over her mouth) Don't follow me! I'm going. You go call Lee. I'm not feeling well; I need to go to the hospital. (eun runs off toward the restroom.) Wan: Hey, wait up, buddy! You don't need a hospital; we just need to get home right now. If she can't handle her liquor, why does she drink so much? First, let me quickly check on Lee. Then I'll go attend to Yun. Otherwise, she'll end up doing something stupid or falling over. And God forbid she accidentally bumps into Mr. Kang. God help us. Cut. Inside. The Restroom. (eun turns toward the washbasin, then looks into the mirror, begins splashing water on her face, and talks to herself.) eun: (In a sweet, slurred voice) Yeah... this is all because of that wicked Kangaroo. He's so mean. I'm not going to let him get away with it. You mean, mean, *mean* Kangaroo! (She shouts in annoyance.) (eun staggers out of the restroom. Just then, Mr. Kang approaches from the opposite direction. She stumbles and bumps right into him. Kang grabs her to steady her.) eun: (Eyes closed) Ah! (She opens her eyes; they stare at each other, their eyes locking.) Kang: You? eun: You...? Let go of me! Kang: (Gently releasing her) ...Huh? (He catches the scent of alcohol on eun's breath.) How much have you had to drink? eun: What business is that of yours? I drank. Anyway, why are *you* here? Did you come to tease me again? Kang: Excuse me?! I have no interest in you. You are the one who teases me—I don't. And besides, am I not even allowed to come here?Eun: I told you, I'm not drunk! I'm leaving! then.......
