Chapter 15 - chapter 15: Breaking the Extraction

The light swallowed everything.

For a moment—there was no sound, no movement, no ground.

Just white.

Then—

Pain.

Sharp.

Violent.

Kael gasped as the sensation rushed back into his body all at once. His vision flickered, his balance gone for a split second before he crashed back onto solid ground.

Hard.

He coughed, pushing himself up slightly.

The sword was still in his hand.

But something was wrong.

Very wrong.

It wasn't responding anymore.

No pulse.

No guidance.

Nothing.

"…What did they do…?" Kael muttered under his breath.

Around him, the battlefield had changed again.

The chamber was still there—but distorted, like parts of reality had been overwritten. The cracks on the ground were glowing brighter now, forming patterns that hadn't been there before.

A system.

That was the first thing that came to his mind.

Rin's voice broke through.

"Kael!"

Kael turned slightly.

Rin was back on his feet, bruised but standing. Lira was behind him, trying to stabilize something with her devices. Taro was already aiming again. Faye stood closer than before, watching everything carefully.

Veyron—

Wasn't moving.

Kael narrowed his eyes slightly.

"…Veyron?"

No response.

Faye noticed too.

"…He's locked out," she said quietly.

"What do you mean locked out?" Rin asked.

"He can't interfere with this system anymore."

That was bad.

Very bad.

---

The Enforcers hadn't moved.

They stood exactly where they were.

Calm.

Unbothered.

Like everything that just happened was expected.

The leader lowered his hand slowly.

"…Partial extraction complete."

Silence.

Kael's grip tightened.

"…Partial?"

The leader looked at him.

"You resisted."

That wasn't praise.

Not even close.

It was a problem.

"For you," the leader added calmly.

Kael forced himself to stand fully.

"…Then I'll keep resisting."

The leader tilted his head slightly.

"That is not relevant."

Rin stepped forward.

"Yeah? Then let's see how irrelevant this is."

He rushed in again.

Fast.

This time faster than before.

His punch aimed directly at the leader's head—

And stopped.

Right before impact.

Frozen mid-air.

Rin's eyes widened.

"…You've got to be kidding me."

The second Enforcer moved.

Just one step.

And Rin was thrown across the chamber like he had been hit by something invisible.

He crashed into the ground hard.

"…Rin!" Lira shouted.

"I'm fine!" he replied, though his voice said otherwise.

---

Kael stepped forward slowly.

"…So that's how this works."

The leader watched him.

"You are beginning to understand."

Kael shook his head slightly.

"No."

He raised the sword.

"I'm starting to adapt."

For a second—

Nothing happened.

Then—

A faint pulse.

Weak.

But real.

Faye's eyes narrowed.

"…It's still there."

Kael exhaled slowly.

"…Yeah."

The sword wasn't gone.

It was suppressed.

And that meant one thing.

It could come back.

---

The leader raised his hand again.

"Continue extraction."

The ground reacted instantly.

Energy lines surged upward, wrapping around Kael's legs.

This time—

He didn't panic.

He moved.

Sideways.

Fast.

The chains missed.

Rin, still on the ground, smirked slightly.

"…Okay. That's new."

Taro fired three arrows at once.

Different angles.

Different timings.

The second Enforcer blocked one—

Missed the second—

And the third forced him to step back slightly.

"…They're not untouchable," Taro said.

"Good," Kael replied.

Because that was all they needed.

An opening.

---

Lira activated multiple devices at once.

Light burst across the ground, disrupting the energy patterns.

"…Breaking structure!" she shouted.

Faye moved immediately.

She slipped through the distortion like it wasn't even there, striking at the third Enforcer's blind spot.

This time—

Contact.

The Enforcer staggered slightly.

Rin grinned.

"Now we're talking."

He rushed back in.

This time, his punch landed.

Clean.

The Enforcer moved back two steps.

Not much.

But enough.

---

Kael focused.

The sword pulsed again.

Stronger.

Still unstable.

But responding.

"…Come on," he muttered.

The leader watched him carefully now.

"…Interesting."

Kael stepped forward.

Then vanished.

Not completely.

But fast enough.

He appeared directly in front of the leader.

And struck.

---

The impact echoed across the chamber.

For the first time—

The leader moved.

Not much.

But enough to avoid a direct hit.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

"…So you can still use it."

Kael didn't answer.

He pushed again.

Faster.

Sharper.

More controlled.

The sword responded better with each movement.

Not fully.

But enough to matter.

---

The battlefield shifted again.

But this time—

Not by the Enforcers.

By Kael.

The energy around him reacted differently.

Not resisting.

Not controlling.

Following.

Faye noticed immediately.

"…He's breaking their system."

Lira looked up.

"How?"

Faye didn't look away.

"…He's not fighting it."

"…He's rewriting it."

---

The leader stepped back slightly.

For the first time—

He looked cautious.

"…You are destabilising the sequence."

Kael raised his sword.

"…Good."

Rin laughed from behind.

"Yeah, that's what we do!"

Taro reloaded.

Lira adjusted her devices.

Faye moved into position.

And for the first time—

The balance shifted.

---

But it didn't last.

The leader raised both hands.

And everything stopped.

Instantly.

The ground.

The air.

Movement itself.

Kael froze mid-step.

Not by force.

By rule.

"…You are exceeding acceptable variance," the leader said calmly.

The pressure increased.

More than before.

Much more.

"…Initiating correction."

Kael's eyes widened slightly.

"…Correction?"

The energy surged again.

Stronger.

More precise.

More absolute.

And this time—

It wasn't trying to extract.

It was trying to erase.

---

Faye's voice cut through sharply.

"KAEL—MOVE!"

But he couldn't.

The space around him had locked completely.

The sword pulsed violently—

Then—

Stopped.

Kael felt it.

For the first time since he held it—

Nothing.

Complete silence.

"…No…" he whispered.

The leader's voice echoed.

"End of deviation.

Something broke.

Not the system.

Not the space.

Something deeper.

Inside the sword.

Inside Kael.

A pulse exploded outward.

Wild.

Uncontrolled.

Different from before.

Darker.

Stronger.

Alive.

Kael's eyes widened

As the energy around him shattered completely.

The system cracked.

The Enforcers stepped back.

Even the leader.

For the first time

Surprised.

"…Impossible," he muttered.

Kael stood there.

Breathing slowly.

The sword in his hand

Was no longer the same.

To be continued… 🔥
