Chapter 16 - chapter 16: when the seal breaks within

The moment the pulse erupted.

Everything stopped making sense.

It wasn't just energy.

It wasn't just power.

It was something alive.

Kael stood at the center of the broken field, his breathing slow, uneven—but controlled. Around him, the entire structure of the chamber had fractured again, not like before… not under pressure, but under rejection.

As if the world itself refused to contain what had just awakened.

The sword in his hand had changed.

Not physically.

Not completely.

But enough.

The faint glow that once surrounded it was gone. In its place, something deeper pulsed beneath the surface of the blade—like shadows flowing inside metal, moving with intent.

Kael could feel it.

Not in his hand.

In his chest.

In his thoughts.

In his heartbeat.

"…So this is what you were hiding," he whispered.

No answer came.

But he didn't need one.

Because whatever was inside the blade…

Was no longer quiet.

Across the battlefield, the Enforcers had stepped back.

Not far.

Not in fear.

But in calculation.

The leader's eyes were fixed on Kael now, no longer calm, no longer detached.

For the first time

There was uncertainty.

"…That state should not be possible," he said slowly.

Rin, still catching his breath, looked up and blinked.

"…Okay… I don't know what he just did, but I like it."

"Don't," Faye said immediately.

Her voice was sharp.

Serious.

Different.

Rin frowned.

"What? Why?"

Faye didn't look at him.

"Because that's not control."

Kael heard that.

And he knew she was right.

The energy around him wasn't stable.

It wasn't aligned.

It wasn't cooperating.

It was reacting.

Responding to something deeper than his own will.

And that was dangerous.

Very dangerous.

Kael took a step forward.

The ground beneath his foot didn't crack.

It shifted.

Like it was adjusting to him.

That alone told him everything he needed to know.

"…I don't have time to hesitate," he muttered.

Because if he did

He might lose control completely.

The leader raised his hand again.

"…Correction priority increased."

The other two Enforcers moved instantly.

This time

They didn't hold back.

The second Enforcer rushed in first, faster than before, his movement slicing through the air with precision.

Kael reacted.

Not by thinking.

By instinct.

He moved

And disappeared.

Not fully.

But fast enough to blur.

He reappeared behind the Enforcer.

And struck.

The impact was different.

Not controlled.

Not precise.

Explosive.

The Enforcer was thrown forward violently, crashing into the ground with enough force to shatter the stone beneath him.

Rin's eyes widened.

"…Okay—yeah. I definitely like this."

Taro didn't relax.

"…Too unstable."

Lira nodded quickly.

"He's not controlling the output."

Faye stepped forward slightly.

"…He's being carried by it."

Kael didn't stop.

He couldn't.

Because the moment he moved

The energy followed.

Amplified.

Pushed.

Demanding more.

The third Enforcer appeared at his side.

Strike incoming.

Kael turned

Blocked

But the impact still pushed him back.

Not because the Enforcer was stronger.

But because his own energy reacted unpredictably.

"…Tch—!"

Kael gritted his teeth.

"This isn't clean…"

The Enforcer attacked again.

Faster.

Sharper.

But this time

Kael adjusted.

Slightly.

He didn't push back.

He redirected.

The sword moved differently.

Less force.

More flow.

And for a moment

Everything aligned.

The clash shifted.

Not chaotic anymore.

Not fully.

But enough.

Kael moved again.

This time cleaner.

More focused.

The energy didn't explode outward.

It followed the strike.

Compressed.

Directed.

The Enforcer blocked

But was still pushed back.

"…He's stabilizing," Taro said.

"Not fully," Faye replied.

"But enough to survive."

The leader stepped forward.

"…So you are adapting even in that state."

Kael looked at him.

"…I don't plan on losing."

The leader raised both hands.

The space reacted instantly.

But this time

It didn't fully take hold.

The distortion formed

Then cracked.

Like it couldn't fully overwrite the space anymore.

Lira blinked.

"…He's resisting the system itself."

Veyron, still partially locked out, finally moved slightly.

"…No," he said quietly.

"…He's interfering with it."

That was worse.

Much worse.

The leader's expression darkened slightly.

"…That confirms it."

Kael stepped forward again.

"…Confirms what?"

The leader looked directly at him.

"You are no longer just a carrier."

Silence.

"…You are becoming a breach."

That word echoed.

Breach.

Not user.

Not wielder.

Something else.

Something dangerous.

The pressure spiked again.

But this time

It wasn't from the Enforcers.

It was from Kael.

The energy around him surged outward again.

Unstable.

Heavy.

Alive.

Rin stepped back slightly.

"…Okay… now I'm a little less comfortable."

Lira swallowed.

"If that keeps increasing…"

Faye finished.

"…He won't be able to stop it."

Kael felt it too.

The pull.

Stronger now.

Deeper.

Like something inside the sword was trying to push past him.

Not take control.

Not exactly.

But exist through him.

His grip tightened.

"…No," he muttered.

"You don't decide that."

For the first time

The energy resisted him.

Directly.

His arm trembled slightly.

The sword pulsed violently.

The pressure built

And built

And built

Then

It snapped.

Not outward.

Inward.

Everything compressed.

For a single second

The energy aligned completely.

Perfectly.

Silently.

Kael's eyes sharpened.

"…Got you."

And then

He moved.

Faster than before.

Cleaner than before.

Controlled.

For real this time.

He appeared directly in front of the leader.

And struck.

The leader blocked.

But this time

He was pushed back.

His feet slid across the ground.

Just slightly.

But enough.

For the first time

He had to adjust.

"…So you can force synchronization," he said quietly.

Kael didn't respond.

Because he already knew.

This wasn't permanent.

Not yet.

But it was enough.

Behind him, Rin grinned.

"There we go!"

Taro nodded.

"That's our opening.

Lira activated everything she had left.

Faye moved into position.

Veyron finally stepped forward fully.

"…Now we finish this."

The battlefield shifted again.

But this time

Not against them.

With them.

Kael stood at the center.

The sword steady.

The energy controlled.

For now.

But deep inside

He could still feel it.

Waiting.

Watching.

Growing.
