Chapter 14 - chapter 14

The air changed before they saw anything.

It wasn't a sound.

Not a movement.

Just a feeling—like the space above them had suddenly become heavier.

Kael raised his head slowly.

"…They're here."

Rin clicked his tongue.

"Of course they are."

Lira looked around nervously.

"But how did they even get inside this deep?"

Faye didn't answer immediately.

Because she already knew the answer.

"They didn't enter," she said quietly. "They were sent."

That made everything worse.

---

A low sound echoed from above.

Not footsteps.

Not wings.

Something sharper.

Like metal cutting through air.

Then—

Shadows dropped from the ceiling.

Not falling.

Landing.

Three figures appeared in the broken chamber space, each standing on fractured stone like it was solid ground.

They didn't speak immediately.

They just observed.

Rin narrowed his eyes.

"…Okay. These ones feel different."

Taro already had his bow aimed.

"Confirmed. They're human."

Lira frowned.

"That's worse."

Kael didn't move.

Because the sword in his hand had changed again.

It wasn't reacting like before.

It was quiet.

Too quiet.

Veyron stepped slightly forward.

"…Enforcers," he muttered.

Kael glanced at him.

"Enforcers of what?"

Veyron didn't answer.

Because one of the figures spoke.

---

The leader stepped forward.

He wore a dark coat lined with faint glowing markings, like the same energy that ran through Kurogane—but controlled, refined.

His voice was calm.

Too calm.

"…So this is where the anomaly was detected."

His eyes landed on Kael.

Then the sword.

"…Confirmed."

Rin frowned.

"Confirmed what?"

The man didn't look at him.

"Host acquired."

Silence.

That word again.

Kael tightened his grip.

"…You're talking about me."

The man tilted his head slightly.

"You are carrying a sealed fragment."

Lira stepped forward.

"…Fragment of what?"

The second figure spoke this time.

"This world calls them Shadow Blades."

A pause.

Then—

"They are not weapons."

Faye's expression darkened slightly.

"…We already heard that."

The third figure finally spoke.

"…They are anchors."

That word hit differently.

Kael narrowed his eyes.

"…Anchors for what?"

The leader answered.

"For what exists beyond containment."

Silence.

Heavy.

Rin exhaled slowly.

"…Okay, I officially don't like 'beyond containment' things."

---

The leader raised one hand slightly.

And the space around them shifted.

Not as violently as before.

More… precise.

Controlled.

The ground beneath Kael's group began to separate subtly, isolating movement paths, limiting options.

Lira reacted instantly.

"…They're controlling spatial pressure again!"

Taro fired an arrow.

It was blocked mid-air.

Without effort.

Rin charged forward—

But stopped mid-step.

"…What the—?"

Invisible force held him in place.

Faye moved quickly, trying to break the distortion.

"It's structured containment!"

Kael stepped forward.

And felt it immediately.

Pressure.

Not physical.

Systematic.

Like the space itself had rules now.

And those rules were being rewritten around them.

---

The leader looked at Kael again.

"…You should not be active yet."

Kael frowned.

"…Yet?"

A faint pause.

Then—

"You are early."

That statement didn't make sense.

Not fully.

But it felt important.

Kael tightened his grip on the sword.

"…Explain."

The leader didn't answer directly.

Instead—

He raised his hand slightly.

And images flickered in the air.

Chains.

Swords.

Dozens.

Hundreds.

Spread across different lands.

All connected by the same dark energy.

Lira stepped back.

"…That's not just here…"

Faye whispered.

"…It's global."

Rin blinked.

"So there are more of these things everywhere?"

Taro's voice was low.

"…And they're waking up?"

The leader nodded slightly.

"Correct."

A pause.

Then—

"But not synchronised."

His eyes returned to Kael.

"…Except you."

Silence.

---

Kael felt something cold in his chest.

"…What does that mean?"

The leader stepped forward slightly.

"You are linked to the primary seal."

Veyron's expression changed slightly.

"…That's impossible."

The leader continued.

"You were not supposed to awaken this early."

Kael tightened his grip.

"Stop saying that."

The leader ignored him.

"The system is destabilising."

Rin frowned.

"System?"

Faye answered quietly.

"…The network he mentioned before."

The leader nodded once.

"Correct."

He looked at Kael again.

"And you are the trigger point."

Silence fell.

Heavier than before.

---

The space around them shifted again.

But this time—

The distortion wasn't defensive.

It was preparatory.

Like something was about to happen.

Veyron stepped forward fully now.

"…They're going to extract him."

Rin turned slightly.

"What?"

The leader raised his hand.

And the ground beneath Kael cracked slightly.

Energy lines spread upward slowly.

Lira shouted.

"…Kael, move!"

But Kael didn't move.

Because the sword in his hand reacted violently.

For the first time—

It resisted him completely.

Kael widened his eyes slightly.

"…What are you doing?"

The leader answered calmly.

"Resetting the connection."

Faye's voice sharpened.

"No—Kael, break it NOW!"

Kael tried.

But the pressure increased instantly.

Like invisible chains wrapping around him.

Rin rushed forward.

"Hey! Let him go!"

But he was thrown back instantly.

Taro fired again.

Blocked.

Lira activated her devices.

Disrupted immediately.

Veyron moved fast—

But stopped halfway.

"…No," he muttered.

Kael turned slightly.

"…What do you mean no?"

Veyron's eyes narrowed.

"…If they extract it now, everything else reacts."

That didn't sound good.

At all.

---

The leader looked at Kael one last time.

"…You were not meant to be aware yet."

Kael gritted his teeth.

"…I didn't ask to be involved in this!"

The leader paused.

Then—

"That is irrelevant."

The energy surged.

Kael's body began to lift slightly from the ground.

The sword glowed intensely now.

Like it was being pulled.

Not activated.

Not used.

Taken.

Kael's eyes widened.

"…No—!"

Faye shouted.

"Kael, resist it!"

Rin struggled again.

"Damn it!"

Taro aimed for the leader directly.

Lira tried to stabilize the space again.

But everything was being overridden.

Veyron stepped forward—

Then stopped.

"…If they succeed," he said quietly, "the seal breaks elsewhere."

Kael heard that.

And understood something.

This wasn't just about him.

It was about everything connected to the sword.

The leader raised his hand fully now.

"…Extraction commencing."

The ground exploded with light.

Kael's vision blurred.

The sword pulsed violently—

And for a second—

Everything went white.
