Chapter 17 - THE DESCENT OF OBLIVION — A FIGHT NOT MEANT TO BE WON

The sky didn't just crack—it collapsed.

What had once been fractured lines across the Second Layer now spread into something far worse, as if the entire ceiling of reality was being torn apart from the outside. The glowing fractures widened, twisting unnaturally, and from within them poured a presence so heavy that the ground itself seemed to sink under its weight. The city, already unstable, groaned as buildings shifted and cracked further, unable to withstand the pressure.

Every player felt it.

Not fear.

Not danger.

Something deeper.

A primal instinct screaming the same message—

Run.

Tony didn't move.

He stood at the center of the broken street, his gaze fixed upward, watching as the descending shadow took shape. It wasn't fast. It didn't need to be. Its presence alone forced the world to acknowledge it.

Beside him, Chris clenched his weapon tightly, his voice low but tense. "…That's not something we can fight."

John didn't even try to argue. His barrier flickered weakly as he struggled just to remain standing. "…I don't even think we can run properly…"

Emily remained silent, her eyes locked on the sky, but her focus wasn't just on the entity.

It was on Tony.

"…This is the moment," she thought.

"…If he fights this… there's no going back."

---

The system finally stabilized—but only partially.

Its voice, usually cold and controlled, now carried something unfamiliar.

Urgency.

---

[EMERGENCY ALERT]

[ENTITY CLASSIFICATION: ???]

[THREAT LEVEL: BEYOND S-RANK]

[DIRECTIVE: SURVIVE]

---

No rewards.

No instructions.

Just one command.

---

Survive.

---

The entity fully descended.

---

It didn't resemble a creature.

It didn't resemble a player.

---

It was a mass of shifting darkness, layered with fragments of broken light. Its form wasn't stable—it changed constantly, as if it existed across multiple realities at once. Portions of it flickered in and out of existence, while others stretched unnaturally, defying shape and logic.

At its center—

Something watched.

---

"…So this is what they send when they get serious," Tony said quietly.

---

Veyron, now standing again despite his injuries, shook his head slowly. "…No."

"…This isn't sent."

---

His eyes darkened slightly.

"…This is released."

---

THE FIRST IMPACT

---

The entity moved.

---

Not toward Tony.

---

Toward everything.

---

A wave of distortion spread outward, touching buildings, streets, and players alike. Wherever it passed, reality destabilized. Structures bent, twisted, and collapsed without resistance. Players caught in its range didn't scream—

They simply vanished.

---

John's voice broke instantly. "…WE NEED TO GO!"

---

Chris grabbed him without hesitation. "Move!"

---

But Tony—

Stepped forward.

---

"…Tony!" Chris shouted.

---

He didn't stop.

---

Because something inside him—

Responded.

---

The distortion around his body flared again, stronger than ever before. It wasn't just reacting anymore—it was resonating with the entity's presence.

---

"…You feel it too," Tony murmured.

---

The entity paused.

---

For a fraction of a second—

---

It acknowledged him.

---

SURVIVAL OR FIGHT

---

Emily moved instantly, stepping in front of Tony.

"…Stop."

---

Her voice was sharp.

Clear.

---

"…This isn't something you fight."

---

Tony looked at her.

"…Then what?"

---

"…We survive," she said.

"…That's the only way forward."

---

A pause.

---

The entity shifted again.

---

Closer.

---

The pressure increased tenfold.

---

Tony's body tensed slightly.

---

"…If I run now…"

"…It won't stop."

---

Emily's expression hardened.

"…And if you stay… we die."

---

Silence.

---

For a moment—

It looked like he might argue.

---

Then—

Tony exhaled slowly.

---

"…Fine."

---

Chris didn't waste a second. "Everyone—move!"

---

ESCAPE UNDER OBLIVION

---

They ran.

---

Not in formation.

Not in control.

---

Just survival.

---

The city collapsed around them as the entity advanced. Buildings twisted and fell, pathways disappeared, and the ground itself fractured under their feet. Players scattered in every direction, some disappearing instantly as the entity's distortion touched them.

---

John was barely holding on. "This is insane—this is insane—"

---

Chris dragged him forward. "Focus on moving!"

---

Emily stayed close to Tony.

---

Watching him.

---

Because even as they ran—

---

He wasn't fully retreating.

---

His eyes kept shifting.

---

Analyzing.

---

Learning.

---

"…He's still trying to understand it," she realized.

---

And that terrified her more than the entity itself.

---

THE TURNING POINT

---

They reached a broken intersection—

---

And stopped.

---

Because the path ahead—

Was gone.

---

The ground had collapsed entirely, leaving a massive void.

---

Behind them—

The entity was closing in.

---

Chris cursed under his breath. "…We're trapped."

---

John looked like he was about to break. "…We're dead…"

---

Emily's mind raced.

---

No escape.

No route.

No time.

---

Then—

Tony stepped forward again.

---

"…Then we make a path."

---

POWER BREAKTHROUGH

---

The distortion around him expanded—

---

Further than ever before.

---

This time—

It didn't stay contained.

---

It spread outward—

Touching the broken space ahead.

---

Reality responded.

---

The void—

Shifted.

---

Not filled.

---

Not repaired.

---

But… aligned.

---

A temporary path formed.

---

Chris stared in disbelief. "…He's not creating…"

"…He's forcing reality to cooperate."

---

Tony's breathing slowed.

---

"…Move," he said.

---

They didn't hesitate.

---

They crossed.

---

The moment the last of them reached the other side—

The path collapsed again.

---

The entity struck the void—

---

And the entire area shattered.

---

AFTERMATH — SURVIVAL

---

They didn't stop running until the pressure faded.

---

Slowly.

---

Gradually.

---

Until the city behind them fell silent.

---

They stopped.

---

Exhausted.

---

Alive.

---

John dropped to the ground immediately. "…We survived…"

---

Chris exhaled deeply. "…Barely."

---

Emily looked at Tony.

---

"…You didn't fight it."

---

Tony shook his head slightly.

"…Not yet."

---

Silence followed.

---

Then—

The system returned.

---

But this time—

Different.

---

[EVENT COMPLETED: SURVIVAL]

[REWARD: ???]

[NOTICE: ANOMALY STATUS ESCALATED]

---

Tony smiled faintly.

---

"…Of course it did."

---

Far beyond the Second Layer—

Something observed the entire event.

---

Not the system.

Not the entity.

---

Something else.

---

And for the first time—

It showed interest.

---

❓ FINAL QUESTION:
