Chapter 36 - Windguides

The method of Divine Selection was not new in Runeterra.

The Freljord had the Believers of the Three Gods, Bilgewater had the Order of the Sea God, and Mount Targon had the Solari and Lunari.

But those deities almost universally lacked a complete doctrine; their greatest demand of their followers was simply loyalty.

Therefore, the Chosen selected in such a manner could naturally only be zealots with infinite loyalty to their god.

But Janna was different.

What she required her followers to pursue was faith, ideals, and the ultimate goal of Great Harmony.

Thus, a Divine Selection method with the exact same mechanics served only as a ruling tool to select the blindly loyal in the hands of other deities, but here, it became an absolutely impartial standard for filtering out pure idealists!

What did this mean?

It meant that the organization they were about to establish would be a highly capable fighting force composed entirely of true believers of Janna, the purest idealists—selfless, noble individuals who had transcended base desires!

"Janna's Divine Selection... so this is what Janna's Divine Selection truly means!"

Viktor trembled with excitement once more. He realized that this system possessed boundless vitality and infinite combat potential.

As long as Janna did not die and their faith did not perish, their path would never stop extending!

"Fellow students, victory is right before our eyes!" Viktor could not help but set down his pen and paper, propping up his frail yet fiercely spirited body as he shouted to the crowd.

"Are you willing to become the pioneers of change and join this great evolution of human civilization?"

They were willing! Of course they were willing!

After realizing the profound significance behind the words "Divine Selection," not only did those who had already accepted Janna Thought find their faith growing firmer and purer—the "threads" drawing out from their bodies becoming brighter and more radiant—

Even those who had initially hesitated and doubted whether the beautiful ideal Levi described could truly be realized began to accept and believe. "Threads" started to draw out from their bodies as well, converging toward the bluebird.

Students, after all, were the most progressive, passionate, and vibrant demographic.

After just a single morning of lectures, discussions, and speeches, up to two-thirds of the nearly one hundred Zaunite students present had become devout followers of Janna Thought!

The rest of the students were either still cautiously observing, worried about their personal safety,

Or they had not yet fully agreed with Levi and Viktor's ideals, simply wanting to peacefully finish their university studies in Piltover, find a good job, and live a comfortable life looking out for themselves.

And then there was a very small fraction of people...

They had actually seen the terrifying potential of this cause and this organization, believing that Levi and his followers would definitely succeed in the future.

But these people were too "smart" and too "flexible" in their thinking.

Like entrepreneurs dreaming of an IPO the moment they set up a pancake stall...

They could already foresee that if the victory of the single city of Zaun could truly be realized, then these dozens of obscure, green Zaunite students present would all become heroes and great figures of Zaun in the future—important people wielding immense power!

If Janna's cause could go even further, the names of these students would eventually spread throughout all of Runeterra, making even the people of Demacia and Noxus tremble.

To be a hero, a legend, a big shot—who wouldn't want that?

These "smart people" who saw this beautiful future wanted it too.

They were itching to join their classmates right this instant and become part of this organization that was bound to create greatness.

But herein lay the problem:

The more these people thought this way, the more they wanted to be big shots, the heavier their selfish motives became, and the shallower their faith grew—

Making it all the more impossible for them to become true believers of Janna, and impossible for "threads" to be drawn from their bodies.

Such people were excluded from the ranks right from the very beginning.

"Not only must we insist on strict screening when absorbing new blood—in the future, all official members of the organization, including myself, must also regularly undergo the Goddess Janna's Divine Selection assessment publicly, under the supervision of the masses!"

"Besides that..."

Levi opportunely emphasized a few more points regarding his specific vision for the Divine Selection system.

With these few rules in place, the rudimentary framework of their ranks was gradually established.

A total of ninety-six people were counted at the scene, sixty of whom had already become Levi's steadfast followers and true believers of Janna Thought.

Levi then established the team with these sixty individuals as official members, while the remaining thirty-six served as reserve members and priority development targets, participating in the team's future work and operations to varying degrees based on their personal willingness.

Then, through an internal show of hands among the sixty official members, the room quickly and unanimously passed the following:

Electing Levi as the leader of the team;

And Viktor as the deputy commander.

This was a result without any suspense. Levi was the mentor who solidified everyone's faith, while Viktor had brought them the enlightenment of Janna Thought.

In the minds of these Zaunite students, the two of them held the most prestige and were the most convincing.

However, aside from this, everyone did not delve any deeper into personnel matters—

After all, there were only sixty official members right now; having two leaders was more than enough.

Moreover, everyone had only just gathered together. Although they shared the familiarity of classmates, they still lacked a clear understanding of each other's working capabilities.

If they rushed into internal elections now, they would likely only end up choosing those who were popular and well-spoken among the students, rather than those with genuinely strong working abilities who could unite the greatest majority.

"I suggest that we first divide into several propaganda groups based on the promotional work we currently need to carry out, targeting different areas like factories, communities, and schools," Levi said.

"Everyone can start working together in this group format first, getting familiar with each other and building synergy on the job. Then, when the time is ripe and our mutual understanding has deepened, it won't be too late to begin formal elections."

Levi's clear and logical thinking quickly quelled everyone's disagreements and discussions regarding the selection of internal managers.

Now that the discipline was clear, the mechanism for selecting and appointing personnel was established, and the team was gradually taking shape.

"Teacher Levi, shouldn't our team have a name?"

A student thought of this crucial question.

"Yeah, what should we be called?"

"Well..." Levi was somewhat terrible at naming things; he certainly couldn't act as a mentor in this regard. "What do you all think, students?"

"Hmm..." After a bout of thinking and discussion, someone proposed, "We are all people who will charge to the front lines for our great ideal—"

"Why don't we call ourselves the 'Dauntless Vanguard'?"

"..." Levi was speechless. "Sorry, Demacia has already trademarked that moniker."

"Teacher Levi, you said that although we are just a tiny spark right now, we will definitely be able to start a prairie fire in the future." Someone else suggested, "Why don't we call ourselves..."

"The Spark of Zaun?"

"That's been trademarked too."

"The Zaun Independence Army?"

"Too small. The scope is too small."

"The League of Legends?"

"Calling ourselves heroes is a bit detached from the masses."

"The Pioneers of Change?" Viktor tried offering a suggestion.

"Children of the Wind!" Lina chimed in with a traditional Runeterran style.

"Levi & Viktor!" Seraphine also happily chipped in. She directly slapped the two founders' names together, making it sound like a band or some luxury brand.

Various suggestions were brought up, but none could bring everyone to a consensus.

Struggling with naming, Levi couldn't help but consult Janna in his mind:

'Janna, what do you think?'

This was her team, after all; he had to hear the goddess's own opinion.

'Uh...' Janna seemed even more indecisive than Levi. 'My title is [Storm's Fury], so in the past, organizations that worshipped me usually called themselves...'

'The Church of the Storm?'

Levi: '...'

Forget it, this useless bird's opinion was even less worth listening to.

He was still agonizing over the organization's name in his heart, when at that moment—

A fierce gust of wind suddenly blew outside the window. The air current howled as it surged into the classroom, scattering the stale air, blowing away the people's drowsiness, and making the entire world suddenly feel completely refreshed.

"The wind..."

Levi suddenly felt a stir in his heart.

He quietly circulated the divine power within his body, condensing a tiny whirlwind in the palm of his hand.

Janna was the incarnation of the wind.

And they were the followers of the wind, and even more so, the guides of the wind.

Under their guidance, the winds of change would eventually blow away the toxic smog shrouding Zaun, blow away the toxic smog covering all of Runeterra, and sweep the world entirely clean!

"Our name—"

"Shall be the 'Windguides'!"

Power Stones, reviews, and comments— really helps a lot
