The ground kept rising.
At first, it looked like a structure. Dark metal, layered plates, something mechanical.
Then it moved.
Not like a machine.
More like something waking up.
The entire platform trembled as the massive form pulled itself upward from beneath the arena. Segments shifted and locked into place, forming something that looked almost humanoid, but far too large to be anything human.
Everyone stepped back.
Collin stared. "Yeah… no. That's not fair."
Sharon's aura flickered again, reacting to the presence. "This is what they were hiding?"
Tobi narrowed his eyes. "Not hiding. Building."
David didn't say anything.
He was focused on it.
Really focused.
Because now he could see it clearly.
Not just the body.
The structure behind it.
Connections. Control lines. Power flow.
This wasn't just a boss.
It was the center of the entire system.
The thing's head turned slowly toward them.
Then its voice came out, not loud, but everywhere at once.
"CORE ENTITY ONLINE."
A pause.
"EVALUATING SUBJECTS."
Pearl stepped closer to the group, raising a barrier instinctively. "This feels different…"
"It is," Tobi said quietly. "This one isn't testing us."
The Core Entity moved its arm.
The air in front of it folded.
A second later, a shockwave hit them.
Pearl's barrier shattered instantly.
Everyone was thrown backward.
David hit the ground hard but forced himself up quickly.
"Okay," Collin said, coughing. "Now we're definitely in trouble."
The Core Entity didn't rush them. It just watched again, like everything else had.
But this time, it felt worse.
More aware.
David stood slowly.
"It's not attacking randomly," he said. "It's studying us."
Tobi nodded. "And adjusting in real time."
Sharon clenched her fist. "Then we hit it before it finishes."
She stepped forward, her red energy building again.
"Wait," David said.
She stopped, annoyed. "What now?"
David pointed at the entity. "If we attack blindly, it will adapt faster."
Tobi glanced at him. "So you have a better plan?"
David hesitated for a second.
Then nodded.
"Yes."
The Core Entity raised its hand again.
This time, the ground beneath them shifted.
Separate platforms began forming again.
"Not again," Collin groaned.
But David reacted immediately.
"Stay together!"
He slammed his hand downward.
The air around them distorted, and the forming platforms hesitated.
For a brief moment, the system glitched.
Tobi looked at him, impressed. "You're interfering with its control now."
"Not fully," David said. "But enough."
The Core Entity paused.
Then its voice returned.
"ANOMALY CONFIRMED."
Its focus locked directly on David.
"Yeah, that's not good," Collin said.
Sharon stepped forward anyway. "Too late now."
Her energy flared again, stronger this time.
Pearl rebuilt her barrier, weaker but still holding.
Tobi moved slightly to the side, ready.
David took a breath.
"On my signal," he said.
The Core Entity moved first.
Faster than something that size should be.
Its arm came down toward them.
"NOW!" David shouted.
Sharon released a burst of red energy straight at it.
Collin struck the ground, sending a shockwave upward.
Pearl reinforced the space in front of them.
Tobi cut through the air with a precise strike aimed at the same point.
All their attacks hit at once.
For a second, it worked.
The Core Entity staggered.
A visible crack formed along its surface.
Collin grinned. "We got it!"
Then the crack sealed.
Instantly.
The Core Entity straightened.
"ADAPTATION COMPLETE."
The next attack came faster.
Stronger.
They barely avoided it.
Sharon landed hard. "It's already adjusting!"
Tobi clicked his tongue. "That was too quick."
David's expression tightened.
"No," he said. "That means we're doing it right."
They all looked at him.
"If it's adapting," he continued, "then it's not perfect."
Tobi smirked slightly. "So we overload it."
David nodded.
"Exactly."
The Core Entity raised both hands.
The entire arena shook.
Energy gathered around it, far more than before.
Pearl's voice dropped. "We can't block that…"
Sharon's aura flared wildly again.
Collin stepped forward despite everything.
Tobi focused, ready.
David looked at all of them.
Then back at the Core Entity.
"Then we don't block it," he said.
A pause.
"We break it first."
