The rooftop was painted in crimson and gold.
Evening sunlight stretched across the sky, casting long shadows that trembled in the gentle breeze. Cherry blossom petals drifted through the air like fragments of forgotten memories.
Haru stood between them.
On his left—Tachibana Yuki, fragile as a dream.
On his right—Miyamoto Sora, warm and undeniably real.
Past and present.
Dream and reality.
A promise and a future.
The Truth Unveiled
"To save me… you must give up your tomorrow."
Yuki's words lingered in the air, heavy as fate.
Haru's hands trembled.
"So it's true," he whispered. "My unused days… they became your life."
Yuki nodded slowly.
"You promised them to me when we were children. I didn't mean to take them, but your wish gave me a place in this world."
Sora clenched her fists. "Then we'll break the promise."
Yuki shook her head.
"You can't. It's bound by memory—and by Haru's heart."
"Then we'll find another way," Sora insisted. "There has to be one."
But deep down, they all knew the truth.
Some promises were never meant to be undone.
The Weight of Tomorrow
The wind grew stronger, scattering petals across the rooftop.
Haru closed his eyes, recalling the laughter of his childhood, the quiet warmth of Yuki's smile, and the steadfast presence of Sora beside him.
"If I give you my tomorrow," he said quietly, "you'll live… won't you?"
Yuki's eyes shimmered.
"Yes."
"And if I don't?"
She hesitated.
"…Then I will disappear."
Silence fell like dusk.
Sora's voice broke through, trembling.
"Haru, you can't. Your future—your dreams—your life… they matter."
"I know," he replied softly.
He looked at her.
"And you matter too."
Her breath caught, tears glistening in her eyes.
A Confession Beneath Falling Petals
Haru stepped toward Yuki.
The fading sunlight wrapped around her fragile figure.
"Yuki," he said, his voice steady despite the storm in his heart. "I remembered everything—the promise, the festival, the day we met beneath the cherry tree."
Her lips quivered.
"You shouldn't have."
"But I'm glad I did."
He reached out, his hand trembling as it passed through her fading form.
"I love you."
The words hung in the air like a whispered miracle.
Yuki's eyes widened, filling with tears.
"Haru…"
"I don't regret meeting you," he continued. "Even if it was only for a few borrowed days."
Her voice trembled. "You're cruel… confessing like this when I'm about to disappear."
He smiled faintly. "Maybe. But it's the truth."
Tears slipped down her cheeks, dissolving into light.
"I love you too," she whispered.
The Girl Who Refused to Lose
Sora lowered her gaze, her heart aching at the sight before her. Yet she didn't turn away.
Instead, she stepped forward.
"Haru," she said quietly, "if sacrificing your future is the only way… then I'll stop you."
Both of them looked at her in surprise.
"I won't let you throw your life away," she continued. "Not for a miracle, and not for a promise made by a child."
She met Yuki's gaze without hostility.
"You deserve to live," Sora said softly. "But not at the cost of his future."
Yuki smiled faintly.
"You're strong."
"No," Sora replied. "I'm selfish. I want him to stay."
Her voice trembled as she added:
"…Because I love him too."
Haru's eyes widened.
"Sora…"
She forced a gentle smile. "I'm sorry. I couldn't keep it to myself anymore."
The Choice
The sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in fading hues of violet.
Yuki's form began to shimmer once more.
"Haru," she said softly, "you don't have to choose me."
"But I want to."
She shook her head.
"And I want you to live. That was never part of our promise—to steal your future."
Haru clenched his fists.
"There must be another way!"
For a moment, silence reigned.
Then—
Yuki reached for him, her translucent fingers brushing against his hand.
And this time—
He felt warmth.
A faint, fleeting touch.
"Your tomorrows gave me life," she whispered. "But your memories gave me a heart."
Her smile was radiant, yet tinged with sorrow.
"So instead of giving me your future…"
She closed her eyes.
"…give me a place in your past."
The Final Promise
A gentle light enveloped her.
Petals swirled like a luminous storm.
"Haru," she whispered, her voice fading, "live fully. Laugh. Fall in love. Chase your dreams."
Tears streamed down his face.
"Don't go… please…"
She smiled.
"We'll meet again."
The wind carried her final words into the twilight.
"Whenever the cherry blossoms bloom… remember me."
And with that—
Tachibana Yuki dissolved into a cascade of light.
Gone.
But not forgotten.
After the Sunset
The rooftop fell silent.
Haru stood frozen, tears glistening in his eyes.
Beside him, Sora gently took his hand.
This time—
He held on.
"…She's gone," he whispered.
"Yes," Sora replied softly.
"But she's not lost."
Haru looked up at the night sky, where the first star had begun to shine.
"…Thank you, Yuki."
Sora squeezed his hand.
"Let's go home, Haru."
He nodded.
And together, they walked toward tomorrow.
