Chapter 3 - The jade sword

CHAPTER THREE(3):The Adventure Begins

The jeep rumbled over the forest path, leaves brushing against the sides as Ethan, Liam, and Solomon finally left the safety of the village behind. The map of the Jade Sword lay open on Ethan's lap, glowing faintly as if it could feel their excitement.

"This is it," Ethan said, gripping the steering wheel tighter. "The adventure begins now."

Liam leaned back, smirking. "I hope you brought all your tools, cousin," he said, glancing at Solomon, who was already tinkering with some gadget in his bag.

"Always ready," Solomon replied with a sly grin. "I've got everything we might need—locks, tricks, and maybe even a few surprises for whatever we meet along the way."

The forest grew thicker as the jeep moved deeper, winding paths leading them toward the first of the four mountains marked on the map: Shadowfang Mountains. Mist curled around the trees, and strange noises echoed from somewhere unseen.

Ethan looked at the map again. A faint green line pulsed along the route. "The sword is out there… waiting for us," he said softly.

And for the first time, all three of them felt it—the thrill of leaving the ordinary world behind, stepping into a journey filled with danger, magic, and legend.

Liam nudged him. "Don't tell me you're already scared. The adventure's just starting!"

Ethan shook his head, a nervous smile on his face. "Not scared… just excited. And a little… curious."

The faint hum of the map pulsed stronger as they drove on, guiding them past twisting roots, sparkling streams, and patches of strange, luminescent mushrooms that seemed almost… magical. Solomon leaned over the map. "According to this, the Shadowfang Mountains aren't far. But the forest here… it's alive. Watch every step."

A cool wind swept through the trees, carrying with it whispers that seemed to echo their names. Ethan tightened his grip on the steering wheel and the Jade Sword, its faint green glow reflecting off his determined eyes.

For the first time, all three of them felt it—the thrill of leaving the ordinary world behind, stepping into a journey filled with danger, magic, and legend.

Somewhere beyond the mountains, caves, and glowing forests, the Jade Sword awaited… and their adventure was only just beginning.

Thorns began to burst from the forest floor, twisting and curling into thick barriers that blocked the jeep's path. From the shadows, a faint glow revealed a forest guardian spirit, its translucent form hovering silently behind the thorny wall. Its eyes widened—large, glowing, and eerily unblinking—as it followed the trio's every movement.

Somewhere beyond the mountains, caves, and glowing forests, the Jade Sword awaited… and their adventure was only just beginning.

The thorns writhed like living snakes, twisting higher and thicker, blocking every path forward.

"Looks like Sylvaris doesn't want visitors," Solomon muttered, kneeling to examine the shimmering gaps the map had highlighted. "These weak points aren't random—they're part of a test. Only the clever, careful, or brave can get through."

Liam swallowed nervously, scanning the dense forest. "I was born ready," he said, trying to sound confident, though his hands shook. "But… I didn't think 'ready' meant facing… sentient thorns."

Ethan crouched, studying the map. The green pulsing line pointed directly to a narrow path between the thorn walls. "We'll have to move slowly… and one wrong move could trigger something," he whispered.

Sylvaris's glowing eyes followed them, unblinking, as if reading their every thought. The wind carried whispers that made their hair stand on end, a soft, almost melodic voice repeating words they couldn't quite understand.

"On my count," Ethan said, pointing to the first weak point. "We move together, carefully. No sudden moves. Liam, you guide the drone ahead to scout. Solomon, keep an eye on the gaps. I'll lead with the sword—it might protect us if Sylvaris decides to act."

They inched forward. Each step made the thorns shiver, some retracting slightly while others twisted, closing the gaps. The forest seemed alive, testing them at every turn.

The map pulsed faster, glowing brighter near the largest cluster of thorns. Ethan realized it wasn't just showing the path—it was reacting to Sylvaris, almost warning them where the danger was greatest.

A sudden gust of wind knocked Liam's drone off balance. It buzzed frantically, flashing red. "Uh-oh," Liam whispered. "Sylvaris knows we're here."

Ethan raised the Jade Sword. Its green light flared, casting a protective aura around them. The thorns recoiled slightly, as if afraid of the sword's magic.
