Chapter 9 - CHAPTER NINE(9):The Light of Luminar Peaks

The jagged shadows of the Dragon's Tooth Mountains slowly faded behind them.

In their place, a soft glow began to rise.

At first, it was faint—barely noticeable. But with every step Ethan, Liam, Solomon, and Sylvara took, the light grew stronger, brighter, and… calmer.

Ethan slowed, staring ahead.

The mountains before them were unlike anything they had seen so far. Instead of dark, jagged peaks, these mountains shimmered with a gentle radiance. The rocks themselves glowed faintly, casting soft light across the paths.

"Luminar Peaks…" Solomon said, almost in awe.

Liam blinked. "Okay… this is new. No shadows, no teeth, no giant monsters trying to eat us. I like this place already."

Sylvara didn't relax. "Don't."

They all looked at her.

"Places that look peaceful," she continued, "are usually hiding something."

Ethan nodded slowly. The Jade Sword glowed brighter now—stronger than before, almost as if it was responding to the light around them.

"It feels different here," he said. "Not dangerous… but powerful."

The map shimmered in his hand. For the first time since their journey began, the glowing path was clear—steady and bright, leading straight through the mountains.

"No tricks?" Liam asked.

Solomon frowned. "That's what worries me."

As they walked deeper into Luminar Peaks, the light intensified. Crystals embedded in the rocks began to shine, casting reflections across the ground like moving stars.

Their footsteps echoed softly, almost peacefully.

But something felt… off.

"Do you hear that?" Ethan asked.

They stopped.

At first, nothing.

Then—

A faint hum.

Like the mountains themselves were alive.

Sylvara's eyes narrowed. "This isn't just light. It's energy."

Suddenly, the crystals around them pulsed.

The ground beneath their feet glowed brighter—and then shapes began to form.

Figures made entirely of light stepped out from the glowing rocks.

Silent. Still. Watching.

Liam stepped back. "Okay… I take it back. Definitely not safe."

Solomon stared at them. "Guardians… made of pure light."

One of the light figures stepped forward.

And then—

It spoke.

Not with a voice… but directly into their minds.

The glowing figures surrounded them, their light growing stronger. The air felt heavy—not with danger, but with pressure.

"What does that mean?" Liam whispered.

Sylvara looked around carefully. "It means this isn't a fight."

Ethan lowered the sword slightly. "Then it's a test."

The light pulsed again.

The path behind them disappeared.

The path ahead split into multiple glowing trails.

Solomon looked at the map—but it had gone blank.

"No guidance," he said.

Ethan looked at the glowing paths. "Then we choose… honestly."

The light figures watched silently.

Waiting.

The glowing figures stood silently around them, their light pulsing like a heartbeat.

The air grew heavier.

Then the voice returned—clearer this time, echoing inside their minds:

"Step forward… and face your truth."

The glowing paths shimmered.

Four paths.

One for each of them.

Ethan looked at the others. "We go together."

The light flared.

"No."

The paths separated further, pulling slightly at each of them, as if guiding them apart.

Sylvara crossed her arms. "Figures. They want us alone."

Solomon nodded slowly. "This is personal. Each of us has to face something… on our own."

Liam swallowed. "I don't like that."

Ethan hesitated… then nodded. "We'll meet on the other side."

One by one, they stepped onto their glowing paths.

And disappeared into the light.

Ethan stepped forward, the world around him dissolving into pure light.

When it cleared, he stood somewhere else.

A quiet place.

Familiar.

His home.

He froze.

"You came for the sword," a voice said behind him.

Ethan turned.

A figure stood there—himself.

But older. Stronger. Holding the Jade Sword.

"Why?" the figure asked.

Ethan tightened his fists. "To protect people. To do something great."

The other Ethan stepped closer.

"Or… to prove something?"

The words hit harder than any attack.

Ethan hesitated.

Images flashed around him—his family, the stories he had read, the legends he admired.

"I…"

He stopped.

Then, quietly:

"…I want to be more than ordinary."

The light pulsed.

The other Ethan smiled faintly—and faded away.

The path reappeared.

Liam stepped into the light—and immediately stumbled.

When he looked up, he was alone… surrounded by darkness instead of light.

"What? That's not fair!"

A voice echoed:

"Why are you here?"

Liam laughed nervously. "Uh… adventure? Helping my friend?"

Silence.

Then the darkness shifted—showing moments where Liam hesitated, doubted, almost gave up.

"You are afraid," the voice said.

Liam swallowed. "Yeah… I am."

The darkness pressed closer.

"But I still came," he added, louder this time. "I didn't run. I'm still here."

The darkness cracked.

Light broke through.

The path returned.

Solomon stood in a world of shifting symbols and glowing patterns.

Knowledge. Logic. Control.

A voice spoke:

"You seek to understand everything. Why?"

Solomon adjusted his goggles. "Because knowledge is power."

The symbols twisted, collapsing.

"Or control?"

He paused.

Then admitted quietly:

"…Because I don't like not knowing what could happen."

The light steadied.

The symbols aligned again.

The path opened.

Sylvara stepped into the light—and into silence.

No illusions. No scenery.

Just her.

Then a voice:

"Why do you fight alone?"

She scoffed. "Because I can."

The light dimmed.

Memories flickered—moments of betrayal, survival, isolation.

"Trust gets you hurt," she said coldly.

The voice responded:

"And yet… you stayed."

She froze.

Ethan. Liam. Solomon.

She looked away.

"…Maybe I'm tired of being alone."

The light flared brightly.

The path appeared.

One by one, they stepped out of the glowing paths—back onto the same ground.

The light figures stood before them once more.

The air felt… lighter now.

Different.

Ethan looked at the others. "You all okay?"

Liam nodded slowly. "Yeah… I think so."

Sylvara didn't speak—but she stayed close this time.

Solomon checked the map. It glowed brighter than ever.

"We passed," he said.

The glowing figures stepped aside.

The path ahead opened—clear, bright, and leading forward.

Far in the distance, the green glow of Emerald-spire Peaks shined stronger than ever.

Ethan raised the Jade Sword.

"Let's finish this."

The glowing figures slowly stepped aside, their light dimming into a calm, steady glow. The pressure in the air faded, replaced by a quiet stillness that felt… earned.

For a moment, no one spoke.

Ethan looked at his friends—really looked this time. Something had changed. Not just around them, but within them.

"We made it," he said softly.

Liam let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding. "Yeah… but that didn't feel like winning. That felt like… being seen."

Solomon nodded. "Because it was. Luminar Peaks doesn't test strength—it reveals truth."

Sylvara crossed her arms, but her voice was quieter than usual. "And truth isn't always easy."

The map in Ethan's hand flared brightly. Stronger than ever before. Clearer.

For the first time, there were no splits. No flickers.

Just one path.

Straight ahead.

Ethan followed it with his eyes—and there it was.

Far beyond the glowing mountains, rising into the sky like a beacon of destiny…

Emeraldspire Peaks.

Its green light shimmered brighter than ever, calling to them.

Liam shook his head slightly. "So that's it… the final mountain."

Solomon adjusted his goggles. "And the place where the Jade Sword truly belongs."

Sylvara stepped forward, her eyes sharp again—but different. "Then what are we waiting for?"

Ethan tightened his grip on the Jade Sword. It pulsed in harmony with the distant peaks, as if it knew the journey was nearing its end.

"No more tests like before," he said. "From here on… it won't hold back."

Liam gave a nervous smile. "Great. Just what I wanted to hear."

But this time—he didn't step back.

None of them did.

Together, they began walking.

The soft glow of Luminar Peaks slowly faded behind them, replaced by the growing, powerful light of Emeraldspire Peaks ahead.

Each step felt heavier… but more certain.

They were no longer just searching.

They were approaching destiny.
