Chapter 15 - CRACKS IN THE LIGHT

Yue Yun stood by the balcony of the Celestial Court, watching the clouds drift slowly across the sky.

Normally, the heavens were bright—filled with soft light, gentle winds, and distant stars.

But today…

Something felt off.

Yue Yan had returned safely.

But she wasn't the same.

She was quieter than usual. Distant. Since coming back from the corrupted realm, she had barely spoken at all.

Yue Yun exhaled softly.

He wanted to ask her again—about the Demon Lord.

But he didn't.

Because asking meant doubting her.

And he didn't want her to feel that.

So instead…

He waited.

Inside the Divine Hall, the Lords had gathered once more.

Tension lingered in the air.

"She completed the mission," Shen Xuanzun said calmly. "The corrupted realm is already beginning to heal."

"But darkness doesn't always leave marks we can see," Ying Yuanzun replied. "I still believe she's hiding something."

"She is not corrupted," Yue Yun said firmly as he stepped forward.

At that moment—

Yue Yan entered the hall.

She moved quietly, stopping beside him. Her expression was calm, controlled… but she avoided everyone's gaze.

"I completed the trial," she said evenly. "I'm not here to be questioned again and again."

"Then tell us the full truth," Ying said, his eyes sharp. "Was the Demon Lord there?"

Silence fell.

Yue Yan didn't move.

"…No."

Her voice was steady.

But something about it—

Felt different.

Yue Yun glanced at her.

He had believed her before.

But now…

He wasn't so sure.

In the end, the Lords let her go.

There was no proof.

No punishment.

But the silence that followed wasn't peaceful.

It was watchful.

Whispers began to spread—quiet, careful, but impossible to ignore. Some immortals kept their distance. Others watched her from afar, their gazes filled with doubt.

Yue Yan noticed.

But she said nothing.

Later that night, beneath the soft glow of a spirit tree, Yue Yan sat alone.

The air was calm.

Too calm.

Yue Yun found her there.

He didn't speak right away. He simply sat beside her, letting the silence settle between them.

After a while, he spoke.

"You know I'd never judge you… right?"

Yue Yan didn't look at him.

"I know."

His voice softened. "I'm just glad you're safe."

She gave a small nod. "Me too."

But even as the words left her lips…

They didn't feel complete.

Because something had changed.

Not just in how others looked at her—

But inside her.

Her thoughts kept drifting back.

To him.

Wen Shouye.

His voice.

His words.

The way he looked at her.

She told herself it meant nothing.

That it didn't matter.

But deep down…

Something was growing.

And she couldn't tell—

If it was light.

Or shadow.
