Chapter 10 - TRAIL OF THE SLIVER FLAME

The clouds above the Celestial Realm shimmered silver as Yue Yan stepped onto the Trial Platform.

It floated alone in the vast sky—an island suspended between stars and wind. Below her, there was nothing but endless space.

Before her stood a single altar.

At its center burned a quiet white flame.

The Silver Flame of Truth.

Around the platform, several Divine Lords watched in silence. Their expressions were calm, but their attention was fixed entirely on her.

They had witnessed countless trials.

But few dared to face this one.

Behind her, Xiao Jiu stood still, her nine tails swaying gently. "You only get one chance," she said softly. "If you lie… even to yourself, the flame will burn you."

Yue Yan didn't turn back.

"I'm not afraid."

She stepped forward.

The closer she got, the more the flame seemed to react—flickering softly, as if it could sense her thoughts.

This wasn't a test of strength.

It was a test of truth.

And that made it far more dangerous.

A voice echoed from within the flame.

It sounded like her own.

"What do you desire most?"

Yue Yan froze for a moment.

Her thoughts raced—images flashing through her mind.

Yue Yun.

The Celestial Court.

The fragile balance of the realms.

Then—

A voice from the shadows.

Wen Shouye.

Her breath caught slightly.

"I…" she began, steadying herself. "I want to protect my brother. I want peace for the Three Realms."

The flame pulsed softly.

Then the voice returned.

"And if peace cannot be achieved without war? If love stands in your way?"

Her hands trembled.

For a moment, she couldn't answer.

She remembered the feeling from before—the strange pull when Wen Shouye's voice reached her. It hadn't felt purely dark.

But it wasn't light either.

It was something in between.

Something dangerous.

"I…" she hesitated, then lifted her gaze.

"I won't let myself be consumed by love," she said quietly. "But I won't run from it either."

The flame reacted instantly.

It shifted—silver turning to blue, then gold… before settling once more.

Brighter.

Stronger.

Then it rose.

Light burst outward, surrounding Yue Yan completely.

But she didn't move.

She didn't resist.

She simply stood there, calm and unwavering, her eyes steady as the light passed through her.

Testing her.

Accepting her.

When the light finally faded…

The flame had changed.

It now rested gently in her palm.

Cool.

Pure.

Silent.

The trial was over.

From above, Lady Yue Yaozun slowly rose. "Yue Yan of the Yue Clan…" her voice carried across the platform, "you have passed."

Shen Xuanzun gave a small, approving nod. "You are ready."

A pause.

"To take your place as the Eleventh Divine Lord."

Yue Yan lowered her head, her heart pounding in her chest.

Everything had changed.

She was no longer just a girl in seclusion.

No longer just a sister.

She had stepped beyond that.

She was now a god.

And this—

Was only the beginning.
