The smooth response between Shinji Ikari and Unit-01 astonished everyone on the staff.
"Release the second lock."
"Release the second restraint."
"Deactivate safeties one through fifteen."
One restraint after another was disengaged.
Viewers across countless worlds were baffled. Why would a combat robot need so many restraints and safety devices?
Unit-01 arrived at the launch shaft, and Shinji gripped the control sticks with tense hands.
"Launch preparations complete!"
"Launch!" Misato Katsuragi ordered after confirming everything was ready.
Unit-01 shot upward through the launch shaft toward the surface at incredible speed. Seeing this, a smile appeared at the corner of Gendo Ikari's mouth.
It was a chilling smile.
The battle ahead was so hopelessly one-sided, and yet he could still smile.
"Will you be all right, Shinji?" Misato asked, wanting to know whether the boy still had the will to fight.
"Yes," Shinji answered simply.
"Remove the final safety lock! Evangelion Unit-01, sortie!" Misato declared.
Ritsuko Akagi said, "Shinji, now imagine yourself walking."
"Walk…"
Following Ritsuko's instructions, Shinji pictured himself walking.
With a heavy thud, Unit-01 stepped forward.
"It moved!" Ritsuko cried out in delight as she watched the screen.
"Walk…"
Keep walking… keep going…
Fear spread across Shinji's face. He had already seen the terrifying monster waiting not far ahead.
In the dim surroundings, the slowly advancing Angel radiated overwhelming pressure.
He had no idea what he was supposed to do next. He didn't know how to fight, didn't know how to control the Eva, and was terrified of his opponent.
With a clumsy crash, Unit-01 tripped and fell flat on level ground.
"Shinji, hang in there! Hurry, hurry and get up!" Misato urged anxiously.
It was as though common sense had abandoned them all. This was Shinji's very first time doing any of this—how could he possibly defeat Sachiel?
Shinji lifted his head, eyes trembling as he stared fearfully at the monster now filling his field of view: hollow eyes, a gigantic black body.
His hands shook around the control sticks.
His heart pounded faster and faster. Tears welled at the corners of his eyes. He froze completely, not knowing what to do.
What now? What was he supposed to do now? He knew nothing.
Sachiel casually lifted Unit-01 with one hand and grabbed its arm with the other, wrenching it hard.
Inside the cockpit, Shinji's wrist twisted backward in agony.
Unit-01's defensive system never activated. No field was deployed.
In the next instant, Unit-01's left wrist snapped.
Still holding the Eva aloft, Sachiel formed a spear of light on its arm—a luminous weapon capable of piercing anything.
BOOM—!
BOOM—!
BOOM—!
The beam, strong enough to punch through more than a dozen layers of armor, repeatedly hammered at Unit-01's left eye.
Cracks had already appeared in the front of Unit-01's skull. Its armor was on the verge of giving out.
Shinji clutched at his own eyes in pain. With the neural synchronization in effect, he also suffered part of the damage inflicted on Unit-01.
In the end, Sachiel hurled Unit-01 away. Blood erupted in a massive spray from the wound in its left eye.
And then more bad news followed.
Unit-01 had now gone completely still.

"…Even that bald mad scientist wouldn't come up with anything this ridiculous!!"
Even if battle-hardened, utterly shameless Kazuma himself were the one piloting Unit-01, he'd still only get ground into the dirt by Sachiel.
Darkness hugged her own curvy body tightly, breathing in ragged little gasps as she gazed at Sachiel ravaging Unit-01 with flushed, entranced eyes.
"I-I'm close… I can't take it, Kazuma… Kazuma, how can there be such a powerful monster?
"That devilish appearance… that terrifying, irresistible destructive power…
"Hah… hah… just imagining my body being seized by it and reduced to such a humiliating state—it excites me too much!"
She suddenly straightened with fervent determination.
"Let's go to that world! Let's help those people deal with these monsters!
"As a knight, I truly can't stand by and watch a creature like that run wild in the human world."

Megumin, meanwhile, was clutching her staff in both hands. To Kazuma's horror, there was drool at the corner of her mouth too, and her eyes were fixed hungrily on Sachiel.
"How enormous… how incredible… how, um, whatever the rest was supposed to be…
"Anyway! Only a monster like that is worthy of being matched against my Explosion magic.
"I won't let you hurt that gorgeous Unit-01 anymore! It's… it's mine!
"I'm going to defeat that monster, and then that giant robot won't have any more use, so they can just give it to me.
"Hehehe… just wait for me, Unit-01, my handsome Unit-01. I'll take such good care of you. I'll polish every inch of you until you're gleaming every single day!"
