Gideon entered his chamber after escorting Adeline to the guest room. What he hadn't expected was seeing Ensley sitting in the drawing room, casually reading the newspaper.
"What are you doing here at this hour?" Gideon's brows furrowed together in immediate suspicion.
"Mom hasn't eaten anything since this afternoon," Ensley began, his tone deceptively conversational. "Meanwhile, you are out enjoying a good time with Adeline. The media articles are completely covered with the two of you." He folded the newspaper and lowered it onto the table.
"So? Do you have a problem with that too?" Gideon questioned, sliding both hands into the pockets of his trousers as he stared his stepbrother down.
"No. After such a long time, you are finally enjoying your life," Ensley stated, a sharp edge cutting through his words. "But at the expense of what? My mother's imprisonment?" He let out a dark chuckle.
"Why don't you just say what is actually on your mind?" Gideon pointedly glared at him.
