"Congratulations, Janessa! Your sister is getting married in three days," Angelica, Renard's sister, said with a bright smile.
The two were sitting together in a quiet corner of a local cafe, a meeting Janessa had initiated specifically to pick Angelica's brain on how to get closer to Renard.
"What? How did you find out?" Janessa asked, her body freezing in utter shock.
"My father received a formal invitation directly from the palace," Angelica replied, casually taking a sip of her iced latte.
She set the glass down and leaned forward, studying Janessa's pale face. "Why does it feel like you had absolutely no idea? Did Adeline already sideline you and your mother?" she asked. "You can tell me, you know."
"Yes. Adeline changed completely the moment she stepped into that palace," Janessa said, her grip tightening around her napkin. "She is the entire reason my father is dead."
"What do you mean?" Angelica's eyes squinted, her interest instantly piqued by the accusation.
