"You should have slapped her back," Gideon said, his fingers gently tracing the reddened skin of Adeline's cheek as he examined the injury.
"She is the princess. I can't do that," she pointed out softly. "I just hope Rosie gets well soon. She got hurt because of me too."
"Think about yourself first," Gideon countered. "If anyone touches you like this, you respond to them with the exact same intensity." His golden pupils dilated slightly, a flash of the alpha rage bleeding through.
"How did you even get here so fast? You told me you had to meet someone outside," Adeline asked, looking up at him.
"I gave you a temporary mark for a reason," Gideon explained, dropping his hand from her face. "The moment you were in danger, I felt it through the bond and teleported straight back to the palace."
"I wonder when I can awaken my dormant wolf, so I can finally trace your scent too. Then the mark I give you will actually work," Adeline mused aloud.
