Eleanor sat on the bed of Janella's in the dark. Only the light of the laptop was illuminating her face.
TAP TAP TAP
Janella enters the room, "What are you doing. It's been 4 hours since you've been glued to your laptop."
Eleanor doesn't stop typing, but neither she looks up, "Doing what the mission requires."
"Which mission are you exactly talking about?" Janella sits beside Eleanor as she asks the question.
"The main objective."
"What exactly are you doing for the main objective?"
"Hacking."
"Hacking what?"
Eleanor looks up from the screen for a second, "The official laptops to delete another proof. They'll get the footage by tomorrow. The exact footage where I was walking into Stacey's room."
Only the sound of leaves moving is heard
After a moment of silence, Janella said, "Any update on the second objective,"
"Trying to get information of Megan. And who had sent those assassins."
Janella's eyes narrowed when she heard the name 'Megan' and then said, "Megan? Anyway, do your work as soon as possible and step out of this maze to have some dinner!"
And Eleanor smiled, a genuine smile in a long time, "I'll be quick."
And Janella smiled back, "Keep smiling like this. It suits you." And Janella left the room, closing the door behind her.
Eleanor looked at the window and saw her reflection on the mirror and thought, 'Should I really... smile this often?'
TING
The processing got done, she had successfully hacked the official laptops.
Eleanor's smile turned into a smirk as she pressed the delete memory button with, "And... it's done." And she stood up and walked to the door, but before she could touch the doorknob, she heard Janella talk to someone on the phone. Eleanor stopped for a few seconds before opening the door.
Janella looks at Eleanor as she steps out of the room and says, "I'll call you later." and hangs up the call.
Eleanor slowly steps towards the dining table and asks, "Who was that, Jane?"
"No one. Just some neighbour."
Eleanor freezes for a few seconds, "Neighbour?" And Janella nods, and Eleanor says, "Okay..."
While eating, Janella asked, "So... Did you delete that footage."
CLICK.
Eleanor puts the spoon down, "Mhm..."
"Do you want more?" Janella asked while reaching towards the bowl.
"No. I'm full." Eleanor said while wiping her mouth.
The next morning
Leo came first to review the footage, he walks up to the junior investigator and asked politely, "Where's the footage?"
The junior investigator got nervous, "Sir, I–I don't know... someone... I mean, the footages are deleted... the laptop was left with Sebastian Alderbury..."
Leo freezes, he thinks, 'Sebastian?' But he says with a small smile, "It's okay, we'll find another way. There are so many ways, we'll discover another way."
And left the room. He sat on his chair, his hand resting on his chin after a few minutes, the atmosphere was heavy, heavy enough to suffocate anyone, Leo's eyes were turning cold, his hand hovers over his drawer and when he reached for the handle, Eleanor barges in, "I'm sorry, I'm late!"
Leo jumps on his chair, and his hand flies over his chest, "OH MY! YOU ALMOST GAVE ME A HEART ATTACK! Who'd be responsible if something happens to his handsome being? You?"
Eleanor closes the door behind her, "But look, nothing happened. We shouldn't stick to 'What ifs' that's not healthy." And Leo leans back in his chair, "In detective world, Miss Williams, What is are everything."
Eleanor smirks and says, "And in my world, Mr. Saunders... certainties are everything."
Leo's smirk widens, "But you're in my world, Miss Williams. And in my world what ifs are everything. Aren't you a detective?"
Eleanor places her bag on her desk, "What are you trying to indicate?"
Leo leans forward to her and says in a low voice, "However you take it."
