It was—
Janella... she took a seat beside him and was checking her bag.
"Hi..." Theodore softly greets.
Janella turns around and meets his eyes, "Hi..." Before turning back to her bag.
"Did something happen?" There was a hint of concern in his eyes.
"I... I can't find something..." Janella looks tensed.
"Is it this?" Theodore asks as he holds out the thing.
"Yeah... by the way... what's your name?" Janella asked as she took it from Theodore's hand.
"Theodore..."
"Ah... Théodore's a nice nom..."
"Are you French?"
Janella chuckles at Theodore's question before nodding.
"We should meet more often." Theodore grins as he says.
"Okay." Janella replies.
PRESENT
Theodore finishes the glass of wine and looks at his reflection on the mirror.
The next morning, Leo got discharged from the hospital, and he was directly at the workplace. Eleanor enters late. Again.
Leo looks at Eleanor and can't hide his grin.
"Well, look who it is. Did you sleep well, Miss Williams?" Leo fully turns around and leads back against his desk.
"I should be the one to ask that." Eleanor says without a hint of softness in her eyes.
Leo's eyes soften, "No." His smirk returns, "Actually, I couldn't sleep well." His smirk fades, "A thing was bothering me."
"And what are those things?" Eleanor looks into his eyes after putting the bag on the desk.
"There are some questions you don't need an answer to. Sometimes, you just know everything but still choose to stay quiet. Humans are so interesting when the topic is about getting people caught red-handed."
Eleanor paused and then spoke, "And what makes you think that?"
"Almost everything I've witnessed."
Eleanor smirked, "Then you've witnessed the bare minimum."
Leo opens the files and leans forward, "Still... I'm the one with the most experience."
And looks at the file and slips the picture of the maid, "She murdered Alina Alderbury. And there were only two witnesses. It could be useful."
Eleanor slowly reaches forward, and Leo's cheeks warms up. But Eleanor takes the file from his hands.
"Okay, I'll take care of them."
KNOCK KNOCK
Eleanor turns around, and the junior investigator comes in, "Miss Williams, Mr. Sebastian Alderbury is calling you."
Eleanor looked for friction because saying, "Yeah, I'll be there soon."
Leo's smirk fades, his eyes darkens, and the temperature drops. Leo watches Eleanor leave as he slams his fist against his table.
The room turns colder, and Leo loosens his necktie.
Meanwhile, Eleanor walks up to Sebastian. She looks around in caution, "What happened?"
"We've got the pendant back."
Eleanor takes the clean pendant from his hand and examines it. She sees the picture again. It looks strangely familiar.
Eleanor freezes, and seeing Eleanor, Sebastian also gets tensed, "Hey, Eleanor? Are you okay?"
Eleanor swallow as she looks up to Sebastian.
"I'm fine."
"Do you know him?"
Eleanor shakes her head to no.
"Then... why do you look like you've seen a ghost?"
Sebastian asked Eleanor as he was reaching towards her shoulder but didn't touch her.
Eleanor look at Sebastian and the at the picture before saying—
